Day 1 Part 1 (Aug. 11th) - Driving Down, Checking-In, & AK
We drove down from South Jersey. We plugged in Walt Disney World in our navigation system and it said 18 hours and 40something minutes. Shoot me. That long, haha. So its 10:30 am and were off. The drive was very smooth until we hit Virginia. There was traffic off and on for about an hour, but eventually cleared up. We literally drove straight through South Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, and most of South Carolina. Listening to music on the way down was interesting. I like country, easy-listening, Howard Stern (I can't resist) and some Rock. She likes rock, but just the sound (no specific artists). So wouldn't it make more sense to listen to the music I know, rather than listen to her music which neither of us know? Well that caused many fights on the way down, but since it was my car...country it was, haha.
We stopped at a Holiday Inn Express there for 99 bucks (more than All-Star Music by the way!) around 11:30 pm. The hotel was nice, but overpriced.
So, we're up by 7:30 am and ate a free breakfast. There was a family also going to Disney World, we knew cause they were talking about it. So if you're on the DIS, hey! LOL. So were off by 8:30 am and we drove straight through to Walt Disney World!
We arrived at Disney's All-Star Music Resort around 10:30 am. We waited about 5 minutes to check-in. The check-in process was easy. I sent in no requests, so wherever they put us was fine by me. We were put in Country Fair, Building 6, Room 6601. The buildings were cool looking, and a little more "adult-like" than the other 2 All-Stars. The buildings were quiet and clean.
The rooms were recently refurbished and were very nice. But, wow, were those rooms small! And the one sink was also annoying, even for 2 of us. But the TV's size was great, along with the curved shower rod in the bathroom. Overall, its Disney, so how can you go wrong?
We were literally in the room for 15 minutes until we wanted to hit Animal Kingdom. I got a call from my grandparents (who live 5 minutes from WDW, lucky, I know) who wanted to see me. So we met them at Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom. The food was ok, but nothing special.
*We walked on everything in AK. There was no more than 3-5 minute waits for everything.*
We then hit AK and did It's Tough To Be a Bug first. I swear this attraction is different from when it first opened. But I loved it! It was really great. Then we rode the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch. I always loved those sound booths (better than Drew Carey's Sounds Dangerous, haha!). After that the grandparents left, but they will come later. We then went to Kali River Rapids. I barely got wet, but it was still fun. The drop and the fire were different from other rapid rides I've done. I've been to Disney 4 times before this and have never done Kali RRs. I'm glad I did though!
We then went over to Kilimanjaro. There wasn't many animals out, so the driver kept stalling and saying random facts. And if there was a small bird, he would make a big deal about it, then hit the gas! But I still love that ride. Just a bad time. I wanted to go to MK (I made a schedule for the trip by the way) but we rode EE first. No wait, it was awesome. That ride is like no other roller coaster.
