A Disney-addicted mom plans a trip in August, 2010! *New pics #574*

Yay on hitting the one month mark!!!
We're arriving on the same day. I can't wait!

Awesome! My ticker is one day off because we're arriving a day earlier than we intended. I didn't want to re-do my ticker because then it's looks like the trip is a long time away! :lmao:

Oh my, one month! You're getting close! Sounds like a successful trip to Target! Too funny about the dora blanket and your DH. My DH is surprisingly lax about these things. At one point DS owned a pink minkee lined diaper with a big pink heart sewn on the back. It was pretty much free and I was going to save it for DD, but I was sure that DH would have a problem with it. In fact, I had a bit of a problem putting it on him! But DH did not care in the slightest!

I'm still thinking, wow, one month. That is so very soon! All that last minute stuff needs to be done now!

I've reached full-blown panic mode! :rotfl2:
The twin air bed arrived yesterday. My son slept on it last night to "check it out." I've started setting aside things to pack. Hopefully I'll get to Staples on my way home today so I can get activity books and travel journals bound. I bought some glow sticks from Michael's last night as well as some stickers, cheap card games with Mickey on the cards, and a Color Wonders coloring book for Zachary (he always gets a little screwed because he's the youngest!).
I want to get new sunglasses for me. I bought new sunglasses for the kids at Target (as part of my huge spending spree!). Still undecided on the shoes for the kids for the trip. I think the Keens are more than I'm willing to spend on the children. Lands End has some trekker shoes in the $20 range. I have them for myself and they're great. That may be a better option for the kids. Quick-drying but fit more like sneakers. Don't know what Tom wants to do for shoes but I'd be more willing to buy him Keens since he won't outgrow them! ;)
I'm at that stage where I can't even think about what else I need to do!!!

I would have done the same thing :rotfl:

hmm...now you have me looking at those trekker shoes. Crocs make me very nervous, even though they're cute, and DS's sneakers are really getting too small for him at this point. I will have to think about this!

I bought a pair for myself last year and then a 2nd pair this year (my last year's ones are still perfect but I wanted to get them in pink!). I've worn them all over Disney for 3 trips now and never had an issue. I did wear thin socks under the shoes even though they are intended to be worn without.

Today I dropped off 3 "activity books" and 2 "travel journals" at Staples to get bound. The women helping me could not have been nicer. The binding will cost about $3 each. Not bad!!!! They helped me pick colors for the back page (pink for Jessica, red for the boys). Another to-do item done! And another DYI project that I successfully completed!!!
We *may* go to Sesame Place this Saturday....

Amanda

I wouldn't go with crocs!! I'm not sure I mentioned it in my PTR but we got crocs for the kids and Kya has been wearing them with no problem but then last week at the zoo when she was actually walking around in them for hours she got a terrible blister. We'll be doing something else for Disney as I also got a blister from my crocs. I'm just not sure what all the rave is about crocs. Kya and I have very different feet- mine are wide and short, hers long and narrow and they were no good for either of us.

Not a bad price at all! Sounds great!

If you go to sesame place tomorrow, have fun!

I might bring crocs along just for wet rides or sudden rain. I'm having trouble convincing myself to spend close to $50 per child on shoes they can't wear next summer!!! I definitely won't let them wear crocs all day. Plus, each child will have a seat (2 strollers: one single, one double) so they don't do as much walking as the grown-ups!

Not a bad price at all! Sounds great!

Thank you!

We went to Sesame Place yesterday. I'll have to upload photos! It was really fun!!!!
We had NO idea how long it would take so Tom and I were up at 5am. We packed up the car and woke the kids. The kids knew there was a surprise but didn't know what (we told them we were having breakfast with some of mommy's friend). They were great. We were on the road by 6:30am - including a mandatory stop at our local bagel store for bagels and coffee!
The drive took just under 2 hours (we made one wrong turn or it would have been closer to 90 minutes). No traffic at that hour! We paid an extra $10 for VIP parking - we literally parked at the front entrance of the park!
The park opens at 10am but they have character breakfast starting at 9:15. We were there by 8:30am and were the first people at the park. Good practice for Disney, right??? :rotfl:
We went to our character breakfast as soon as they let us. The food was mediocre but the character interaction was AWESOME! Not too many guests and plenty of characters. Ernie spent almost 10 min at our table and was great with adults and children. There was big bird, cookie monster, Bert and Ernie, Abby Cadabby. Zachary was a little scared but was fine as long as the characters concentrated on the other kids.
Jessica is both the right age and the right personality for these character events. You'll see that she's the only child in the pictures. Nathaniel is quite shy (and I think he feels he's too old) and Zachary is still a little frightened.
The water part of the park was great. Fun rides! The lines were a bit long and HOT. It makes you appreciate Disney queue themeing! A little spray of water while waiting would have really helped. Zachary is quite the thrill-seeker!
Lunch was CS and not great. Food was expensive and very mediocre (worse than Disney). There wasn't enough seating which was annoying. :confused3
We left early - by 2pm. It was 100 degrees and we were exhausted. It's hard because we felt we didn't totally get our money's worth but it was better than having 3 cranky kids and 2 crabby and cranky adults! ;)
Next time we'll book a hotel for the night so we can go back and take a break. Then we could return to the park and finish up!

Amanda

That character breakfast sounds awesome! I can't wait to see pics!

Sounds like you had fun at Sesame place! It's a shame that you had to leave early, but I can only imagine how uncomfortable you were walking around in 100 degree weather. Not too bad of a drive though, and I'm glad the character meal went well. I can't wait to see pictures!

What great pictures! You weren't kidding, only your DD did love them! She looks so happy though, she made up for everyone else. Love that picture of your DH and cookie monster! :lmao: It's great when Dad's are such good sports!

So glad you had a wonderful time! Is that your last big thing before your trip, or do you have other things between now and then?

Thanks! My 6 year old is pretty shy and my 2 year old still gets scared. :confused3
That's what is hard to explain about my DH sometimes. He's not a Disney-resister so much as a "not plan ahead" kind of guy. He'll have fun when we're there but leaves the early planning to me. He's had some really good suggestions recently for our upcoming trip but can't even talk about the January trip.
No other plans before Disney. Our Sesame tickets are good for a "free" 2nd day so I could see returning but it depends on when we're on-call. Next weekend is my niece's 1st birthday party. I'm not sure what else is coming up....

Love the pics- that place looks so fun! I know what you mean about your dh- mine is the same way. He always has a good time on our family vacations but has no desire to talk about it beforehand.

Exactly! He's been talking about the trip over the last few weeks. Not obsessively like me but still. :rotfl2: He came up the idea of buying a new cheap double stroller from amazon and sending it straight to the resort so I wouldn't have an issue. He also had a few other good ideas.

Hi, Amanda!!
Got a little behind, but just caught up! Loved reading about your Target spree!! Stepping foot in there is beyond disastrous for my wallet-- I always manage to convince myself to buy things we don't need!!
You said you wanted new sunglasses-- where are you looking? Do you want nice ones or cheap ones? I know I probably sound crazily interested, but I LOVE sunglasses!! I've had everything from Dollar Tree sunglasses to vintage Prada's.
Sounds like you guys had fun at SP! Sorry the heat/crowds weren't in your favor.
