Over the years, both here in the Chicago area, as well as while traveling on business trips to a number of cities across the country, I have had the opportunity to plan a fair number of DIS meets. Most have been quite well attended, a few have not. All have been a lot of fun, always interesting meeting other Disney nuts like ourselves with whom we interact with here on the board.
The suggestion I have, and just a suggestion from past experience, is to maybe link a DIS meet thread (Thread linking described here, about midway down on page), posted here, over on the Commubnity Board (CB) (click here). The CB is the only board that pretty much allows posting of anything (within board guidelines of course) and is not topic specific. The CB is a very well visited board, lots of daily traffic. For the most part, many/most folks here on the DIS do not even know the Meet board exists and therefore a meet posting, posted only here on this board, can wind up have minimal exposure. However, if a thread is posted here, and then linked on the CB, many more folks will be exposed to it.
Additionally, for continued exposure, (experience tells me it does take a few weeks of follow up to develop an interest in a meet), a periodic 'bump up' of the thread, maybe a few times a week, on the CB is necessary also, as that board typically will get five to six pages of posts a day. An un-replied to thread will be off page one in 30-45 minutes.
Again, just a suggestion. If anybody has any questions, please do ask. Happy, and successful planning.
