A different kind of waiting...

I am going nuts and needed to post (vent, beg for pity, reach for examples of how this really isn't a problem...)

DH can't put in for his vacation until 60 days prior (except for summer which is a different schedule, thank goodness!) So, I bought our plane tickets a couple of months ago, but I can't book our DVC room yet. We plan on traveling 1/26 through 1/30, and our use year is Feb. Therefore, I am borrowing and can't risk moving the points just in case we can't go during Jan. (Flight credit can be used for a year, so no worries there!)

I am nervous about "no rooms at the inn" but figure that at 59 days out I should be able to stay in a studio somewhere, right? I also figure our dates aren't during a crazy time like marathon... then, I also have the chance that someone else has to cancel. Anyone else book reservations within a short time frame?

I am also a bit stir-crazy because I haven't planned anything because I feel like I need to know where we are staying to book any meals. I don't plan on any crazy popular places and not sure that we are even going to eat table service, so I am not so worried about ADRs. I would like to book a dinner or two at the resort or a neighboring one just in case though.

Ahhh, feels better to just day it to those of you who understand!

Thanks! Debby

;) I love your post because DH puts me in a similar situation. He is a firefighter and has to plan vacations a year in advance...not a problem since our UY is DEC and that is when he picks vacation. That way I know a gauranteed date in Dec each year and can definitely have reservation 11 months later since we travel to WDW Oct-Dec. So while many would say UY has nothing to do with reservations...it does for us because that is when I get my dates for sure. Our problem this year is that I want a trip in March or May. May is more likely.

So our plan is to do 10/28-11/04 in 2011 and DH just got assurred of those dates with his Department. I will call 11/28/10 for my 11 month advantage. I have to wait a while more to see what he gets for second vacation due to senority. So I will not know if it is March or May until...well until...they tell us he has it. So I sit here waiting patiently for the Spring dates so I can jump on a DVC room ASAP. Hopefully we will get AKV standard studio at Jambo (so we can at least get a pool view) but I will take anything and probably have a shorter trip becasue of the point cost of different rooms.

Frustrated with you and sending you Pixie dust. At least our DHs are employeed and we get to have Dsiney in 2011. I am very thankful for that and do not take it for granted.

Studios usually go more quickly than one bedrooms. Would a one bedroom work instead if you can't get a studio?

Also, at 60 days out, any unreserved DVC inventory gets turned over to Disney Reservation Center to sell. They usually can pull the points back, but it might make it a little more difficult.

We will go for the one bedroom if we have to. I hate using double the points when we are really quite happy in a studio. I forgot about the inventory being turned to cash. If I am reading your post right, if inventory is turned to cash, can they switch it back for points if a member needs a room?

It's a first come, first served basis. If the DVC villa is available a DVC member still can reserve it for points.

You may need to start planning different options. Studios definitely go quicker than 1 BR so may have to consider that option.

Does it matter which resort you stay at? Last minute availability are usually at OKW & Saratogo Springs. Do you care if you have a split stay? Make sure you consider all your options before calling MS.

Consider making ADR's on line it will give you alternatives to other restaurants if you can't get what you want. Some restaurants at resorts you can get in with out ADR's. We have walked in at the Turf Club at Saratoga and the Big River Grille on the Boardwalk does not take ADR's.

Last resort would be just wing it! We did that one week with no ADR's and it was one of the most relaxing vacations we ever took. Trying different places to eat can be a lot of fun and who knows you may find one of next favorite places to eat this way! Don't fret just relax and enjoy getting away!

I am prepared for the possibility of a one bedroom...crossing fingers that we don't have to use that many points. I would prefer a split stay than that many points, but we won't be there very long so transfering hotels would be a bother. (We did a three resort split for our ten day trip this past summer, so I am not totally ruling it out.)

I have begun the prep work for room request for SSR or OKW. We were thinking that we would stay at OKW this summer, but I guess we will see what our winter trip holds.

I am thinking that winging it might be the best option. I don't even think that I need to plan (aside from making room reservations, of course) I just love to plan - it helps me be immersed in Disney while I am not there!
