A different kind of OBB question...

(at least I have never seen it before)

I know you can reshop an already deposited cruise while on board. But could you re shop a held cruise?

I know they give you three days to put a deposit on a cruise online. Could I say reserve a cruise with a stateroom I like on the day I embark (before embarking) and then reshop that held cruise within the first two days on board?

Just something that occurred to me late last night.

No. That cabin would only show as available to book AFTER the hold is released. Unless things have changed, the onboard booking agents do not have the ability to access your held reservation. However, if you timed it right, I guess you could put a hold on it, then book aboard as soon as the hold time is up.

We reshopped the second leg of a B2B that we had booked through our TA (the first leg was already booked using a previous OBB reservation). When we booked onboard, the stateroom was not available. In fact, nothing in that stateroom category was available anymore. The CM booked something similar, and after our cruise our TA was able to cancel the original second leg, which freed up the stateroom, and switch the new OBB to that stateroom (for a slightly different price based on the change in category).

Yeah, one advantage of not using a TA is that if I have an existing reservation I reshop they cancel that and so far have always been able to get the same cabin back - it's the fact that they have to cancel the original reservation when reshopping that complicates the matter when a TA is involved.

I know I've been able to cancel a hold rather than just letting it expire - I guess that's why I was wondering if I could do it the same way onboard.

But no biggie - I'll have a few cabins in mind and see what is available.

Just something that occurred to me late last night.

Last month I emarked on the Fantasy with a 3-day hold on another cruise. I went to OBB, told them about my hold & that I wanted that cruise & stateroom, so they cancelled out my hold, then immediately booked that room for me with the discount.

It apparently did require them to cancel the hold outright, so if during the hold period there had been a price increase, I wouldn't have been able to retain prior pricing. But no need to wait around for your hold to expire. They'll cancel it for you if you ask.

Thank you! It's great to have first-hand experience!
