I've posted this over on the Community Board also but since I have seen Destin mentioned here I thought that I would post here also.

What is Destin like in March or November? Would you go at that time of the year? It is hard to get away during the summer for a vacation of any length more than 3 days.

I've been in September and it was nice. My parents used to go every year in May and September - I'll check to see if they ever went in March or November. My guess would be in March the water would be cold and November the water will still be fairly warm.

Thanks! I'm thinking that March would be crowded too with Spring Breakers.

Hi! We've vacationed in Destin lots of times. I'll tell you, March is almost always too cool for the beach! Even if the weather is warm, the water is cold and it's usually too windy to enjoy the beach. November can be iffy too. Sometimes we get those freakish cold snaps and that can ruin a trip to the beach!;) If you're trying to go off season, I would try early May or early October. The weather is typically pretty good and the crowds are not bad. Plus, you still get off season prices!

Hey, I used to live there and I agree w/ dmonroe. October is a really good time to go (can't comment on the water because I'm just not a water type of person). Now I live in Alabama and before kids, I went every year in October to avoid the crowds. Just depends on your specific needs; but kids usually don't think the water is too cold!

Heck we used to go in the mid 70's when there were no crowds! Awesome place. Went there in April once and the water was still very cold so I would think it would be even worse in March. I hear that September is a great time to go , but you always have the hurricanes to look out for in late summer early fall.

Well, I guess March would definately be out. The reason I looked at those particular months was because of the time my kids would be out for school. Because of the business my husband is in (plumbing contractor), summer is just so busy, it is hard for both of us to be away at the same time. I'll have to research November a little more. It would be over Thanksgiving week that we would go if we did.

Thanks for everyone's input!

I've only been once the 1st week of Dec. The weather was great. It was too cold to swim, but that did keep DD(3) from running in the ocean. She didn't stay long in there though. It was great to wake up early get my coffee and curl up on a lounge.

My husband lived down there for a summer long ago. I told him how much I loved this. He asured me I wouldn't in the summer. I HATE crowds. In Dec there was only 2 other people on the beach the first day there.

I plan on going back this Dec on our way back from Disney.

babyblues68 - that sounds great to me. But my 14, almost 15 year old, son just read your post and said, "There won't be any girls!". :p He might not care for that time of year too much. I'd still like to try to go.

LOL, yeah no girls and the two that were on the beach that morning were in their 40's.

September is a great month! We go the third/fourth week and we own the beach!! The ocean is just perfect still nice and warm but the days aren't scorching and unbearable- you'll enjoy this time- I agree March is too cold- no fun not to go in the ocean!

The only bad thing about September is that you might have to worry about hurricanes. We went a few years ago and the city was evacuated before we could check in.

We spent Easter week in Destin this year at the Hilton. My kids (3 and 10) swam everyday. I thought it was too cold but they didn't mind. The hotel also had an indoor pool, which was nice too. The beach was crowded, but it was mostly families. I would go again at that time. It was very nice weather to sit by the pool or on the beach.:)
