A Deer as a pet?

I'm picturing the scene from that David Spade/Chris Farley movie where David Spade prizes his classic car and they pick up the injured deer that comes back to life while in the back seat! :lmao:

thats insane. Over population can easily become an issue and I'm sure these kids don't want someone shooting their "pet" if you can even call it that. This will not end well. :sad2:

I think it's crazy. That poor deer having to be led around on a leash. To me that's cruel.

They take it out on a leash so it "won't jump the fence". Guess it really doesn't want to be a pet! :confused3 I didn't understand it all and I told my dh I'd post on the Disboards and see what others have to say. I'm glad to read that others think it is cruel and stupid.

As for wild animal rescue, that is a noble deed.

Actually its possible. My son's math teacher is married to a Wild Life Officer. They actually live on a local Reserve. They had a mother deer die in labor and kept and are raising the baby. It stays mostly in their yard but the son takes it for walks in the woods etc. I don't know if they will keep it or let it free in the Reserve when it gets older. Its so tame though, you can walk right up to it.

From what I understand, it is NOT legal in Tennessee.
From what you have posted, this deer is under the care of a licensed wildlife officer, and is located on a preserve.

Having 'wildlife' as a pet is generally illegal, or is regulated.

I've got the part of "Are we there yet?" playing in my head when Ice Cube gets kick boxed by a deer. Ouch! People are nuts! Dogs, cats, birds, fish, can't people own "domestic" animals and not wild ones.

This is a new one to me. Our neighbors grandkids are raising a deer as a pet. They bought it to raise. It's about 6 mo and was in a crate in the bedroom when we were there today. The kids take it outside on a leash so it won't jump the fence. They are planning on getting another one and trying to breed them. I guess the grandkids live out in the country somewhere.

One of the neighbors said that the granddaughter had a popsicle in her mouth and let it take it right out of her mouth.

I've never heard of having a deer as a pet. They aren't raising it for food either.

Has anyone ever heard of this???????
Not really as an indoor pet but my mom's friend has a farm in Maine w/about 22 deer. They are hand fed and raised.
