A Day to Remember...

As the sun slowly rose above the horizon, a new day saw the first rays of light. The orange glow creeped across my bed and reached my face at the exact same moment that the alarm clock began blaring "Born to Be Wild". Dakota had obviously been playing with my radio as the volume control was set somewhere between Military Air Strike and Britney Spears concert. I immediately threw my hand it the direction of the radio in hopes of hitting the snooze button. Unfortunately, I missed and hit Trina who must also have had Dakota play with her volume control too since she was louder than the radio. I immediately lept from the bed before there was retaliation for my errant swing. Donning my Goofy slippers I drug myself downstairs. The house is cold this morning so I am grateful to have my dogs in dogs. It is a crisp 54 degrees this morning as I go out to retrieve the paper. Stopping in the driveway, I notice the neighbors staring at me. I make a mental note to myself, "put on bathrobe before getting paper" and quickly retreat into the house, the ears to my Goofy slippers flowing in the wind. As I get to the kitchen, I reach into my bowels of tricks. No wait, I reached into my bowl of Trix and retrieved the prize before crunching the colorful cereal to the tune I had heard on the radio. "Born to be crunch crunch!" I read the newspaper as I ate (first the sports page, then the comics, then the obituaries to see if my name was there). As I picked up the front page I dropped my spoon launching yellow, red and orange puffed cereal across the room. (Where is that silly rabbit when you really need him?) The text above the headline brought a deep chill that went right through me. Oh wait, that was the milk from the cereal falling in my slipper. Either way, I could not believe my eyes. In black bold letters the paper said, "Thursday December 6, 2001". This could mean only one thing, Pin Chat is tonight at 9 PM. And tonight, no one is leaving until someone trades a pin.
