We are a month away from 2 weeks in Disney. My first week is in a rented house just outside the gates with 2 other couples and 2 kids total. My 2nd is at the SSR.

My wife is hinting at going to the beach. What would be a good beach to go to for an afternoon?

I am not a beach guy, so I like other things to do after I get bored with sitting on the beach. My wife is a shopper, so she likes beach side shops.

Please and Thank You

Daytona offers a selection of amusements (bumper cars, ferris wheel, small roller coaster, etc.) right along the beach. There are also a ton of shops there too, both right along the sand and on several side streets just off the area by the pier. It's any easy drive there with no tolls.

Cocoa Beach has an amazing Ron Jon's Surf Shop that might appeal to your wife. Cocoa is a lot more natural and far less commerical than Daytona, though, so your boredom might kick in there after a bit. The drive to Cocoa is a bit shorter, but there are multiple tolls along the way.

As a FL west coast person, I'll tell you to drive the extra 30 min into Clearwater Beach. Better beaches. usually warmer, calmer water and there is a ton to do within 15 min of the actual beach. Stay into the evening and enjoy live entertainment celebrating the sunset each night free of charge on the pier there.

If you like waves and big surf, go east to the Atlantic Ocean - Cocoa, Daytona etc. If you don't and want little tiny waves go west to Clearwater which has nice beach.

My faves are Clearwater, Indian Rocks, St Pete, Cocoa. Personally I would rather drive to the gulf beaches for warmer water. So its usually Clearwater or Indian Rocks.

Try Anna Maria Island or Siesta Key next time.... :) They are my favorite and I live closer to Clearwater.

I was at Siesta Key last week, and I love Anna Maria island. They are just farther from Orlando. It took 2.5 hours to get to Siesta Key from Orlando, and 2 hours back (the next day).
