I've been working on learning the techniques of night photography. This isn't something I've done much in the past. And I really want to get some great shots on this trip, especially some fireworks shots.

So now I hear there is a crane behind the Castle!

Does anyone know how long it will be there?

And with all the mesh on the Castle for the lights, how does that affect the overall look of the castle during the day?

The mesh doesn't look that bad during the day as its colored the same color as the castle part it's laying on. I wouldn't zoom in on the castle as you'll really see the netting but otherwise its ok.

Thanks!

That makes me feel a little better!

We were there in Sept 2006 and there was a crane up for either taking the gold ornaments down off the castle or painting, I can't remember which. But anyway, at night the crane was lowered and you couldn't see it in the fireworks shots. Hopefully, that is how it is now.

BTW, just went to check and supposedly it is supposed to be there from 8/21 to 8/28

Just for you here are some pictures I had taken last year with the christmas lights installed. You can see that they are somewhat visible depending on how close you are. From far away they are "invisible".

I was just there last week and here's a shot of the castle during the day with the crane. By 5:00 in the afternoon the crane is lowered and does not interfere with the fireworks.

Here is the closest shot I have of the Castle during the day. This was during the Holiday season '07.

You can see part of the castle on the right side of the picture and the netting is there, but doesn't really stand out much at all.

I saw the crane on my trip at disney recently. We stayed at Bay Lake so we got a side/back view of the castle.
Picture....

My first picture of the castle on my first trip ever to WDW was in September. I was a little disappointed to see the crane :(

I'd be more disappointed to see the giant "mirror" thing :rotfl2:

Thanks! That's not so bad.

I am the only one that thinks it's terribly bad show to be doing this during the day? Not to mention, that basket hanging in front of the castle really throws off the forced perspective.

Imagine if you were bringing your kids to MK for the first time and this was your first photo in front of the castle!

That's what I mean! With all the lighting they have for that castle, I don't see any reason why it can't be done after hours. It's just bad show.

Safety of the workers would have to come first. Operating a crane that size in the middle of the night has more of a safety issue. Plus the extra cost with operating a large enough lighting system to keep the workers safe along with the overtime pay. I'm guessing that all of that outweighs the price of peoples pictures having a crane in them for one week out of the year.

A day at Disney with a crane in my picture is STILL better than a day at work...

At least the crane is behind the castle, it would be easy to clone out with Photoshop.

Or get creative. See what angles you can get without the crane in your picture. Might not be "The Shot" down Main Street, but is cane be done.
