hi everyone. i'm going to wdw may 19-24 w/my cousin. after plugging in some contract ids/rate codes/coupons it seems like national will give us the best rate. i want my cousin to be an additional driver. does anyone know if national charges a fee for this? she will be 25 at the time so i know we wont have that fee at least. the website says fees may apply for additional drivers. will it tell me when i actually reserve the car? also-- has anyone recently got the emerald club membership through the mousesavers link? i'm thinking of doing that. however i do believe that i can't use a coupon if i do this. that wont make a big deal. it is a difference of $3 each for my cousin and i. if i can get a free membership to the emerald club and i don't have to wait in line that would be great. thanks for any help.

I had to do this myself. I had my cousin with me and we agreed that we needed him to be an authorized driver on the car. He had to be in the car with me when leaving the garage. When we got to the booth, he had to show his drivers license as well as a credit card in his name. Don't ask me why, that's National's rules. Then the attendant in the booth told me that there would be a $5 a day charge for the additional driver. The only free additional drivers you get are spouses. I'm sure that's all we had to do. If I missed something, just call National, they are usually very friendly and knowledgable.

One more thing. GET THE EMERALD CLUB MEMBERSHIP!! You would be stupid not to. Get the freebie from mousesavers and use it!!! You can use coupons and discount codes. All you have to do is log in as a member and make your reservation. Then go right to the garage, pick out you car and pull up to the booth with your extra driver. Show your mamber card, license and give your coupon. Make sure you have a copy of your reservation confirmation email in case there is a problem at the boot. I never had one, but do it just in case. You can also use that to show the people in the garage to point you to the proper aisle. If you reserve intermediate you go right to the emerald aisle and pick whatever car there is. But don't go the Executive aisle, unless you qualify. You're in and out in 10 min. I have used National and never looked back.

Good luck!

Last year I was a second driver on a friend's rental and it was $7 per day. We are both Emerald Club members, but it's not free unless it's a spouse or business associate (on a corporate rental).
