A couple of observations about recent pin listings on E-Bay

I have been looking more and more at different auctions and a couple of trends caught my eye, and I was wondering what others thought about them. This is meant for discussion only, no arguing or anything like that.

1) More and More pins are coming straight from China and Hong Kong. They are not selling as much to the middlemen here in the states I guess. Makes me wonder the authenticity of these pins. I noticed this too with Disney DVDs, as I am looking for the Lion King DVD and a lot of them are in Hong Kong currently, selling for like $10?!?

2) More and more sellers are copying entire texts from PinPics as well as the pictures!

That disturbs me as I sell Transformers, etc on E-Bay, and I always write my own description as well as take my own pictures to show that I actually have what I am selling. Last I looked, E-Bay is certainly commercial, and if people selling scrappers were forced to take their own pictures, some people might see what the pin looks like before buying, instead of a "stock style" photo.

Our policy is that any content, including pin images, may be used or copied by anyone for any NON-COMMERCIAL purpose as long as appropriate attribution is made to Pin Pics.

1.Pin Pics reserves the right to modify this rule on a case-by-case basis when it adversely impacts site performance or utilization. (For more image linking policies, please see our Help page).

What do you all think?

After studying the pins on Ebay, I agree with you. I look at location and number available or sold. When I see ten of the same pin bought or sold, I won't buy it. As you mentioned, Pinpics is being used a lot. I try to stay away from those auctions, unless I have purchased from the seller before. I ask questions now and the response I receive makes or breaks the sale. For example, I was interested in a pin and I asked the seller, "Is there anything else written on the back of the pin?" I knew what the back should have on it. The seller sent me a picture of the back. Of course, the pin was a scrapper. No, thank you.
