Today is the first weekday I haven't had to get up at or before 6am almost all school-year, I'm not a teacher, that's just when we as a family get up
(actually, *today* is the last day of school...
but the school isn't taking attendance
AND the kids who do go will all be herded together in the cafeteria because the principal gave teachers who attended graduation on Sunday today's day off in exchange *so*
almost NO teachers will be in the building *and*
the administration will be trying to corral the entire student body in one room that is too small so
DD said she didn't want to go today
because the last time there was an all-school academic pep rally,
everyone was in the gym -a place bigger than the cafeteria plus all the teachers were present -
the school security officer, a policeman, was attacked by one student while arresting another student
but being the rule-following dolts we are we actually filled-out a pre-arranged absence form before we knew about the no-taking attendance...)

*Anyway*, that's another rant ::yes:: . My neighbors next-door are now, today, *finally* having shingles put on their (new $30,000+, field-stone dressed columns) porch (that has taken several weeks to build).

Oh joy. Hammers at 6:30. Yay.
DH went over and told them they had to stop until 7(noise ordinance).
So they stopped.
And then (as is their right - yeah, I know), started up again at 7, hammering away.

No jury of my peers would convict me.
agnes!

I have to give them some credit at least they did stop until 7.

When I was in college the end of my hall had 3 students that included 2 guitar players and a drummer. They were very good about quiet hours but if quite hours started at 11:00 they would play until 10:59. Luckily I was all the way at the other end so I couldn't hear them most of the time (they weren't playing at an obnixous volume but it would be annoying if I was next door.)

The roofers are just trying to make a living, wanting to get done before its blazing hot. It's probably just one day of noise....

That stinks! The only thing I can say is at least you know it is temporary...bad timing, but temporary.

Are your neighbors home? I think the bigger problem is that they don't care who the disturb. Are you friendly with them? I always wonder how much of this stuff could be diffused if they told you a few days before.."hey, just a warning, it is going to be loud starting early in the a.m. for a few days. Sorry in advance!" In their defense...maybe they know you are usually up by that time?

The guy across the street from me is in LOVE:love: with his leaf blower. He blows off his driveway almost every day, and some days twice a day. Let me tell you...I don't want to hear that droning sound at ANY time of day. But a few Saturdays ago, he did it at 6:30 a.m. Last week, he was doing it at 9pm. If we call the cops, I am sure he will be done before they arrive. We are new to the neighborhood, so we really don't want to complain to him. Are we the only neighbor that hears this?

ahh, thanks for letting me vent.

Hope you have a great summer, agnes! Always nice to see you in the DISboards!

I live in new construction. So we hear it all day, everyday with HUGE trucks to boot. The trucks are the worst part, I think.

It does not bother me at all. I enjoying watching them build. This is our 3rd new construction subdivision.;)

Right now they are putting the subflooring on the house caddy corner behind us. Soon they will be building directly behind us.

Hi MM! Yeah, but I think you know that going in...you are living in a new construction neighborhood, noise comes along with it. That's also why prices are lower for an undeveloped neighborhood. And the less developed it is, the lower the price, because of course most people view construction noise as a nusiance. You are one of the lucky few who does not seem to mind, and can reap the benefits!

Oh yea, I know that going in. For whatever reason, I just tune stuff like that out. Do you think it is because I have 2 teen dd's?:lmao:

I feel for you. I was looking for a nice relaxing summer off. reading on the porch, gardening, playing outside with the dog...but no. The two lots across the street are finally being cleared for houses. So for the last three weeks, I've listened to tree after tree being knocked down, then put through the shredder (it really smelled and the noise was deafening) and now they are leveling the land. A tar truck parked outside my bedroom window at 6:30, it was kept running. Its a symphony of rumbling, crashing, engines and beep-beep-beep- as they reverse (which is every 5 seconds.) They haven't even started on the houses yet.:headache:

oooh, my DD is 11...not too far from the teen years. Maybe the leaf blower dude is a godsend...helping me practice on my "tuning out" skills...cuz I guess I will be needing them soon!

Have a great day!

Our association sends out e-mails when there will be early morning construction noise in the area.
We have 2 houses being built on our street now. They start at about 5 am......but it is AZ and they have to work sometime.
Happens for the things that have them out in the open......like foundation, roofing.
I don't live there yet ;) , but DD had to deal with it 4-5 mornings recently.
