What? The Electric Light Parade from my childhood still lives in California? How did I miss that? I'm new to *this* board, as we're moving from Miami to San Diego in the near future and switching from WDW to DL. But as of now I've got the music singing in my head! THANK YOU!

My family really enjoys DCA. What it reminds me of are the WDW parks. All of the WDW parks have the same wide walkways, and great rides scattered over vast amounts of walking . DL is the only park that seems so "cozy" and "full of Disney magic and touches" because of it's literal size/attraction ratio. I do not think that Disney will ever build a park on the same "scale" because it does not make sense to not plan to move crowds better.
However people who are only used to DL are set up to expect something that Disney will never replicate. IMHO DCA really has almost as much "theming" per square inch as any of the parks at WDW. Now....was the themes chosen the best choices is a different matter.

the first time we went in 03 we were asked qeustions about what we thought would help the park. my laundry list was:

it needed the disney magic, lose the calif theme we live here, put some rides in and trees we need shade...i remember them saying how most people were saying the same things.. yes now there r fun things but for the most part u can do the park in under 4 hours......

Congrats! That is something to be very proud of!

A girl friend of mine was cautioned that she was borderline diabetes. She cut out white flour and sugar and has lost a LOT of weight! She cooks an has done all sorts of funky recipes that her kids just accept and so the entire family is eating healthier.

If you cut it out 100% you'd like lose the cravings too. Also, the hot chocolate and stuff at Pooh's isn't really sugar, it's more corn syrup solids and corn syrup and probably even high fructose corn syrup, and those have a MUCH stronger effect on blood sugar (ask hubby!) AND on cravings.

I'd bring in my own cocoa, proper cocoa with cocoa powder, normal sugar, a bit of vanilla and a pinch of salt with the sort of milk of your choice (we use soy usually around here, as DS has never really had cow milk and hubby was finding that cow milk was doing wonky things to his blood sugar readings). And be very judicious with the treat-choosing, b/c after you haven't had much sugar for awhile, the blast of corn syrup can be quite sick-making.

Sorry for the offshoot....when I was a chiro I had a patient drop something like 50 lbs in a matter of months, by doing the SugarBusters diet, it was amazing. And hubby changed his diet all around after a lovely diabetes diagnosis (he and his mom seem to have a very odd sub-type), and now barely craves any sugar, and will get very ill if he has too much (he didn't cut it out entirely for mental reasons, and it seems to be working for him). And I haven't cut it out other than trying to be kind to hubby (and DS, who cannot have anything with "corn syrup" in the ingredient name), and have found my cravings diminishing.



Blah blah blah, just don't want you to be sick after drinking the warmed chocolate-flavor beverage at DLR! (obviously I don't like the taste, LOL)

I guess my confession would be that I actually hate that they're "re-doing" California Adventure... adding new attractions is cool, but it just seems like they're over-doing it (ie. changing the sun wheel to a huge Mickey head)

I agree. I like DCA right now. It's really grown on us.
When DL is too crowded, we love to go over to DCA and it's usually no where near as packed and we can still have a nice time. I fear that after the redo it will be packed and no longer our "escape" park.

didmom73...you don't happen to know Rhonda and Dick Butson, do you? I just found out that a friend from elementary school lives in Vacaville. Just curious, how far is it from Disneyland? I'm trying to get in touch with her...just sent a letter yesterday...hoping that if I can pull together a trip for this summer we can get together and catch up on each other's lives. I haven't seen her since right after we graduated in '80.

On to the topic at hand...I've only been to CA once. At the time I had a 4 year old, so we did enjoy it. All the stuff in Flik's Fun Fair was just right for little kids. There were no lines and we often stayed on to ride more than once.

Aladdin was amazing...the best Disney park show we've ever seen. We fell in love with Soarin' there. The theming is amazing...we were bummed when we realized WDW didn't have any of that! The Sun Wheel was okay. That was it.

Oh, the Main Street Electric Parade...still great, but a shadow of it's former self! I wish my kids had gotten to see it when it was still on Main Street.

Going back, we're looking forward to Toy Story Mania, too. We didn't get to ride it enough last summer to really feel like we got the hang of it.

We loved the lunch at Ariel's Grotto...but the one we saw was Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale. That's long gone. My boys wouldn't put up with the foofy-girl meal they've had since.

Tritan's carousel was good...but, it's pretty much a minor attraction since it doesn't have the whole castle-cache.

My boys looked at most of the other rides and said, "not worth waiting for!" And there were no lines!

For our next trip we will use CA as the "what do you do when they bring out the white ropes" situation at DL. Spend mornings and nights at DL...toddle on over to CA when things get harried there!

Given my druthers, they'd plow up most of the boardwalk, put in an ampetheatre, and move Fantasmic to CA. We've loved it both times at WDW. The show we saw at CA wasn't worth the wait...mainly because we weren't willing to give up a whole day to sit in the grass and wait!

The name doesn't ring a bell. I've been here about 9 years, but my DH grew up here. We are about a 6-7 hour drive, (depending on how many stops you make) which is well worth it! I am trying to plan a suprise trip in March and I'm looking forward to that drive--it's the drive home that seems endless.

My confession is that Soarin' scares the bejezus out of me. I can handle all of the other rides but there is something about knowing that I could plummet to my death at any second that sends me in to panic mode.

BTW, I'm not a big fan of CA either but I am still compelled to buy the park hopper tickets.

LOL--at your comment--not you! I feel the same way about flying in general--but don't mind Soarin'

now if Disney would just start an airline I would feel SO much better about flying

Although I have become accustomed to DCA, I look forward to the re-do! I am planning a trip to WDW this year mainly because of Epcot. I wish DCA could incorporate that type of international theme, but I know there isn't nearly enough space to make it work. Regardless of the changes made, I am sure it will be better than ever.
