A Christmas Carol

Snuggled up on my couch last night to watch a Christmas movie, picked A Christmas Carol, because it was a version I hadn't seen before.

While I felt they did an awesome job and stuck to the story line and dialect really well, it was the opposite of what I was expecting!! For an animated Disney movie, starring Jim Carey I thought I'd be splitting my sides laughing. Quite the opposite though, I'm surprised I didn't have nightmares!

If I had kids I wouldn't be letting them watch it, and I think in future I might stick to The Muppet version! lol

With Jim Carrey you can expect all these things. The movie is cool to watch in my view like his any other movie.

I love every single version of A Christmas Carol ever EXCEPT for the Jim Carrey one. I thought it was absolutely terrible. Probably the worst movie I've ever seen.

Both of these, I was a little stunned. While I'm sure we'll watch it again, it was too dark to get all excited to put on for Christmas every year.

The best version of the story is--of course--the one with George C. Scott.

Wow. Other than the scene where he shrinks and is chased through the streets, the ENTIRE movie is basically word-for-word, scene-for-scene, the original Dickens.

I've seen Christmas Carol in many versions, and this one has to be my all-time favorite.

And if you think Jim Carrey can only do funny, you need to watch something like Truman Show.

There were just so many parts added solely for the 3D effect -- I didn't like it at the theater, but I watched it last week and it didn't annoy me nearly as much.

Loved George C. Scott. Another version that's grown on me is the Patrick Stewart one. For years we listened to his CD reading the book, and I was initially disappointed with his film adaptation.

I think the only worse adaptation of the story I've seen is the TV Kelsey Grammer thing that came out a few years ago.

My favorites are the George C. Scott version and the musical with Albert Finney.

That part is pretty bad. We saw it in the theater, not in 3D. We bought it when it came out on blu-ray and plan on watching it this weekend, and I plan on skipping that part of the movie. Because OTHER than that, it was nearly exactly the book brought to the screen. I know because the day we came home from the theater after watching it, I downloaded the original Dickens story on my Kindle and read it.

As far as it being dark, well, the story is a pretty dark story if you think about it.

I did the same thing, but on my iPod (Jim Dale reading it)! I had to check out whether that shrinking scene was something I'd missed. I was impressed -- it was very un-Disney-like to stick so close to the book!

I’m glad I read this thread. My gkids and I have a Christmas party of our own while their parents go to their adult one and I always purchase a new movie for use to watch. We’d chosen this movie. We will have to rethink our choice.

When I read the story in book of Charles, I wondered a movie of it A day I watched the trailer of Christmas Carol it was super great.
