I just picked up my 5ver from having some general items completed including the roof being cleaned and resealed. I park it back under my carport we have for it and plug it in to slide out the slides and do,some cleaning, while in there I turn the A/C on and after a while realize it isn't getting cold, so I turn it off and back on and nothing, I fact it doesn't feel it is blowing as strong as it did before I took it in. I call the service center and talk with them and he said the only thing that can be done is to replace it, does this sound right? It is only 3.5 years old. Any advice is appreciated.

1) Things to check first.
. . . circuit breakers
. . . electrical connections
. . . thermostat "clicks" when A/C is called
2) If nothing, call a repairman.
3) Could be it simply needs coolant charging (hopefully).

Sounds to me like either a leak of coolant, a circuit breaker (as pp said), or the compressor is shot. Sorry, but you probably won't know until you have the service center check it. Good luck! pixiedust:

Thanks you two. I will check the breakers and see. Then if not, there is a mobile RV service center that will come here for this type of repair/service. Thanks again and this is why I love the friendly and helpful folks on the camping board!

I haved worked on HVAC systems for a long time I always start easy first. Is the Tstat on cooling and is it turned down to run? Is your fan running? You make it sound like it is if so your breaker is probably not tripped. If the service guys are telling you to replace it I am guessing its a compressor (assuming they know what they are talking about) If you listen really close when you first turn it on you can hear the compressor run it will sound like a low moan if you hear that noise and then it shuts off after a short time your compressor is locked up and tripping off on a internal overload. And yes replacing it probably is the cheapest/easiest fix.

I had a camping trip 3 years ago in where we showed up at our site at about 7 at night and it was somewhere close to 100 degrees still. My wife and I started our jobs to get things set up I plugged in tell her to turn the AC on and I listened and I heard the compressor come on and a few seconds later turn off and sighed and knew immediatley what was wrong. I got on the roof and smacked the compressor with a hammer to try and break the valves loose and get that compressor to run. It didnt LOL. We went home the next day and I replaced the roof top part of my AC.

Good luck and let me know if I can help with anything else!

One other thing, you say you ran it a while and realized it wasnt getting cold and that it wasnt blowing as strong as it did before. How long did you run it then? You could have lost some freon and the evaporator could have been frozen up which would restrict your air flow. I would say in 2 to 3 hours you unit could have frozen up to a point that the evapotaor would be restricted. If this is the case leave it off over night and try turning it back on and pay attention to the velocity of the blower if it seems back to normal you most probably have a leak in the freon system. Let us know what you find.

check the temp of the return air and then the temp of the supply air. If the difference is 15 degrees or more it's working okay.

I would run it back to the shop that cleaned and sealed your roof. They may have damaged something while they were up there. Did they remove the ac to reseal the roof. Maybe they forgot to reconnect something or reversed a connector or something. I would take it back... These units are sealed from the factory, they don't usually leak down...

Thanks all for your imput, I have spoke with the manufacture and I am having a tech come out to inspect it. Just strange how it was working on day and not the next, but there are several items the tech will check, I am hoping it is something simple, but if not, what is a good replacement, not sure I will replace with the Domenic (sp) brand, if they do not last more then 3 years. Again, thanks for all the help! :thumbsup2

When you were running it at home, what power source were you plugged in to? If you were using the adapter to plug into your 110 outlet, you should not run your A/C. That 110 outlet does not provide enough amps and you can cause some damage to the a/c.
