A Book Thread for 2012

Have you read "One Day"? The movie came out last summer and it was good but the book was a zillion times better.

I just started reading "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

I put this one on hold at the library last week!! Waiting.....
I love Karin Slaughter or Lisa Gardner. Their books usually have recurring characters so try to get them in order.

Lots of great ideas here! I'll add The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I'm about half way through and totally enchanted.

Awesome book! How about Tana French "The Likeness" or "Icy Sparks" by Gwen Rubio.

Oh Yay! I just got this book for Christmas! Can't wait to read it!

I'm so glad for this thread!

I'm marking ones I want to read on my Amazon wish list, so I don't forget them, or for someone to buy for me for Christmas or my birthday or something like that.

Also, I wanted to mention to you all that I have been getting a lot of my books from the public library online for free! They offer many choices on Kindle editions or Adobe Ereaders, but I personally download them on my mp3 player to listen to while I work.
It's been awesome and I don't pay a dime!

I stayed up most of last night finishing this book. I couldn't put it down... If you like odd and alittle weird this is a great book. I love the way the story is built around the old photos.

I love the books you listed. How about Molokai by Alan brennert or Thirteenth Tale? I loved both of them.

I loved Molokai! I thought it was much better than his other book, Honolulu. I recently finished Night Road by Kristen Hannah and I greatly enjoyed it. I started One For The Money by Janet Evankovich. I have not read any by her but the reviews have been good and there are lots of Disers who like the Stephanie Plum books so that comes as a great recommendation

I ADORED The Help. The movie was great, but the book was amazing.

I also really enjoyed The Hunger Games and am currently reading Hard Eight by Janet Evanovich. I love this series (Stephanie Plum series) and a movie is coming out in a few weeks based on the first novel. I also enjoyed a few books by Jodi Picoult. You might want to check out descriptions of her novels on Amazon for a few ideas.
I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy and really liked it a lot. I finished them in 5 days! These books are certainly not for the sqeamish, but they were interesting.

I belong to a wonderful book club and these are some of the books we have recently read that I've enjoyed:

The Peabody Sisters by Megan Marshall
Bloodroot by Anne Greene
Before I go to Sleep by SJ Watson

My first finished book of 2012 is "Mrs. Tom Thumb," about the life of Lavinia Warren. I really liked it!

I love odd and weird!

One of my favorite books is Stiff by Mary Roach. She investigates what they do with bodies donated to science, very interesting stuff! Loved sharing it with my co-workers even though they kept telling me to stop. LOL!:rotfl:

I just started a book that I can not put down! It's called THE LOST WIFE.

A young couple gets married and then the Nazi invasion separates them. Decades later and thousands of miles away in NYC, they find each other again.:goodvibes

A must read.

I LOVED this book....

I recently read Unbroken which was an amazing book. While I found it to be a fast read I also found it to be a tough read because some of the subject matter was a little unsettling, but it really is an amazing true story.

There was a book signing by Louis Zamperini that I was able to go to. I haven't read the book yet, but I know it will be good.

This looks like it would be a good read.

How was this? My sister and I rented the movie this weekend and it was really good. It made me want to read the book.

I read Sarah's Key, and though I can't say it was entertaining, it was definitely thought-provoking. I thought it was a good book.

I just got through reading Outlander. That was a good story. I'm thinking about getting into the Hunger Games trilogy next.
