A bit on the healthy side: Our little August Dining Review (some pics)

Tangerine Cafe looks like something to try. I keep on seeing good things about it on here. I can't belive it's a healthy meal!:thumbsup2: Nothing like a great tasting healthy meal. I don't worry as much on vacation in WDW b/c of the constant walking. But, my husband & I both agree, eating unhealthy ALL DAY makes you FEEL LIKE.... So, I will remember the yogurt for most deserts. [except my favorite treats] Such a good idea! The grapes too!!! I'll be sharing w/ my little one & he loves his grapes! :Pinkbounc

:lmao: I CAN NOT WAIT TO TRY Kona for the 1st time! That WILL BE our big indulgent breakfast as well. I'll eat proteins for breakfast every other day, but when we go to Kona, bring on the tonga & coffee! Looks really worth it.:goodvibes:goodvibes

I totally understand being careful with unnecessary calories/carbs... helps you not go overboard. You really start to recognize what's really worth indulging in and what's not!

I'll probably be skipping things like rice and noodles when they're served with my food, but when I saw you were going to post for Kona, I thought - yeah, if I did breakfast there, I'd be trying that Tonga Toast - no matter what it did to my system! Good place to indulge! :goodvibes

As for those healthy snacks - Laughing Cow cheese wedges are a staple for us! I laughed when I saw that! In making plans for breakfasts in our room, I was starting to think about apples and peanut butter... quickly becoming a favorite combination for me. Though peanut butter may also go well on your bananas! I used to eat that too!

You have done a wonderful job with these reviews :goodvibes

I can't wait to try the Kona breakfast in October

I seriously can't decide between the Tonga Toast or the Pancakes (DH wouldn't enjoy either so no chance of splitting!)

Once again thanks so much for your excellent reviews :thumbsup2

We hate that overstuffed feeling as well. The platters at Tangierine Cafe are honestly big enough to share, unless you are a family of very big eaters.

Kona was totally worth the splurge!! The coffee was incredible, food was fantastic (though DH didn't care for the sausage), & the atmosphere was just so relaxing!!:goodvibes

It's so true! On prior trips, I would just stuff my face with whatever. On this trip, especially at buffets, I really weighed in the importance: Do I really care about this cheesecake? Not really....do I really care about this zebra dome? Absolutely!! Do I need to eat 3 of them? Not really, one is just fine, etc... ;)

Laughing Cow is a staple for me at home as well! Protein for breakfast is really the way to go for me. I tend to stay satisfied till lunch time!

Thank you~I felt a little "inadequate" because I didn't take a ton of pictures (especially at the buffets), but I really wanted to post a healthy review, since most are just full of the indulgences & not all of us want to eat like that on vacation.

I went with the pancakes because I just do not have that much of a sweet tooth, especially at breakfast. If you prefer sweeter, more sugary things at breakfast, go with the Tonga Toast. If you are used to mostly eating proteins or breads at breakfasts & prefer things that are less sweet & lighter tasting but still in that category & you are a fan of macadamia nuts, definitely go with the pancakes!

FYI though: DH was considering going with the Big Kahuna & those come with pancakes with macadamia nut butter. We checked with the waitress & those are regular plain pancakes. The ones with the macadamia nuts in the batter are the great ones & those are only in the entree.

The pancakes are ENORMOUS!!! At first, I had no desire to split our entrees (especially on my splurge meal!), but in the end, there was no way I could finish all those pancakes! I tried, but I gave up halfway through. The ham is also a pretty substantial portion.

Thanks for sharing your reviews - I really enjoyed reading about some of the healthier options!

Your reviews are great!! It's nice to see a review like this and to know that you can manage healthy meals in WDW! Thanks and I loved them!
