A birthday and Christmas all wrapped into one!

Day 4 - Part 1 - Hollywood Studios


OK, today is the day that the real magic starts! What I mean is, it is our first full day in the Disney parks and the start of all things Christmas.

Hollywood Studios was our first full park day. Great movie ride was first on my list, well, actually third. Like everyone else we did Toy Story first then Star Tours which I now love. We grabbed some carrot cake cookies then a stop at the Great Movie Ride.

We ate an early lunch, around 11:30. We ate at ABC Commissary even though it is my least favorite counter service and still is. My sister had the burger with shrimp and key lime mousse and I had the Asian salad with chocolate mousse. It was very powerful and overwhelming in flavor – mostly ginger. I took a few bites and was done.

Next we saw Beauty and the Beast; its still one of my favorites no matter how old it is.

Then Indiana Jones Stunt Show for the first time since our first trip in 2004. It is a good show but the audience volunteers make it better.

It was about dinner time by now so we left and grabbed the boat to the Beach Club for dinner at Cape May Café. I really like this restaurant the atmosphere, the food and cast members were fantastic. We loved the crab legs, I really found myself addicted to the rolls for some reason. Dessert was great as well. While waiting for it to open we met four people from Pittsburgh and got to talking to them about football, even though I don’t watch it my sister does though.

Time for Osborne Lights. I was amazed by these things. It is so colorful and the way they dance to the music really sort of hypnotizes you. Very crowded in this part but no one was really moving, just singing along and dancing. Two cast members were really getting into the dancing, so much that I thought they were doing Zumba. It was snowing too, but it seemed more like soap suds rather than fake snow. So I came up with the term ‘snoap’ and used it for the entire trip.

I loved the ABC commissary! The curry chicken was out of this world, the only problem was the rice was a little under-done for my standards, but everyone liked the burgers they got. I also like how it's tucked neatly behind everything, so to speak. It's sort of in a quiet place. You have that big mass of tables and such there by ToT and RnR, and if you walk a little further and pass mermaid, you have the quiet little nook of the ABC commissary. I love the atmosphere in there, too.

Day 5 - Magic Kingdom - Part 1


Our next day is Monday, November 28. We were planning to spend our entire day at the Magic Kingdom, and we did. Again we were up before the sun so we could get to the Magic Kingdom early enough for our reservations at Crystal Palace at 8:10a.m. There was one other family on the bus with us, it was just after 7:00. We somehow managed to be the very first two people in the line for breakfast, actually the first two people at the Magic Kingdom all together. It was pretty cool. So after the rope dropped for breakfast people only we went on in and made our way down Mainstreet. It was nice to see it empty and I was like running toward the castle and my sister way behind me like ‘whatever.’ Guess she wasn’t as excited as I was.

We were the first ones to check in at the Crystal Palace. Yeah that ‘being first’ thing happens a lot on this trip. No one else was around so we started taking a few pictures.

A few minutes later we were called in before our reservation. I was so hungry and I thought the food here was fantastic. We had lunch here before, but I think breakfast was better. And I know the Puffed French toast is for kids, but I took some anyway. And once I had seen the whipped topping I was in heaven, put some syrup on my toast with some of that and my sweet tooth was getting high that morning. If you can’t tell I do have a major sweet tooth, I’m like my grandma; we’d rather have our ‘goodie’ then the solid stuff if there is room.

OK, other than the food I like the atmosphere of the place not to mention I really like Pooh and the other guys. One thing I did to my sister this trip was added her birthday to each of our reservations. So our waitress brought out a cupcake and an autographed card for her, and we had to sing.

After breakfast we were off to explore. We did Pirates of the Caribbean and then Big Thunder Mountain. We held off on Splash Mountain because it was still early in the day and it was a bit chilly. We went up to Fantasyland next and did It’s a Small World, I won’t bore you with those pictures though. After that we backtracked to the Haunted Mansion. I really like the new queue area despite what others say negatively about it. Here are a few pictures; I have better ones that will come later.

We made our way through the rest of Fantasyland and to Winnie the Pooh. I really like the queue here too which was redone since our last visit. I understand how things can be distracting since I was busy playing with stuff and my sister was telling me to ‘get moving.’ Oh well, maybe I will get to play better next time.

After that we made our way back around to Adventureland and I grabbed a Dole Whip float. We did Pirates again then just sort of hung out around the Hub and Mainstreet for a while, shopping and taking pictures. Then we hopped onboard the train for a trip around the park.

Day 5 - Magic Kingdom - Part 2


After that it was time for our reservation at the Grand Floridian Cafe. So we left the park and grabbed the boat over. Let me tell you something, it is not too fun when it is raining and cold out to ride a boat on choppy water to go to a fancy type of restaurant. We pretty much looked like crap when we went in there. Anyway, I like this restaurant, the food wasn't the greatest but it still at least tasted good. For me what does it in a restaurant is the atmosphere, and I would give this one a 6/10, I think. One problem we had here was it was getting a bit noisy and our server had laryngitis so we could barely hear her, she was fantastic otherwise. Just hoped she wouldn't pass what she had on to us; didn't need that for the rest of the week. For me the best part of the meal that would keep me coming back is the bread, I loved it here! I ended up having the pork chop with cheesy potato stuff(can't remember the name, lol) and my sister had a steak. Dessert was a bit of a disappointment, kinda small, and not extremely tasty; it was the Boston creme pie. But then again I can be picky about everything especially when it comes to food.

This was my sister's birthday surprise from the Cafe, instead of another dessert they started giving these out. It was a 5oz. piece of white chocolate with a picture of the Grand Floridian on the front of it. It made it all the way home to PA, then she kept it for a while; not really sure if she was thinking it was going to last forever or what. But my mom dropped it on the floor and it broke, so we ate it, lmao.

Time to head back to the Magic Kingdom. This time we hopped on the monorail instead of the boat, much warmer and dryer since it was still drizzling. We didn't do much else the rest of the night; we were full and for some reason just exhausted. So we did some lazy activities; pirates, haunted mansion, and the carousel of progress, which I like, then we called it a night.

Day 6 – Epcot – Part 1

This was our next day; a full day at Epcot which also had EMH in the morning so we were there at a little after 7:00am. I was excited about today because I really wanted to see all of the storytellers around World Showcase. The only problem with that was I had a schedule made up ahead of time that worked perfectly to fit in all of them in one day. I am a planner for trips, just so ya know. Anyway, I somehow left that little piece of paper at home and was freaking out that we wouldn’t be able to see them all today; so more on that story later. Once again we were first to the park and stuck at the rope for opening. I like being there at rope drop; it is fun people watching with all of the pandemonium and chaos that happens when they say ‘let them in!,’ it really cracks me up. Anyway, once we were in I was making a b-line for Soarin’ and there were only two older ladies in front of me. I could not even pass them they were really hustling and I give them credit. But once we got inside the building everyone took the escalators, but I chose the steps and was once again the first one getting fastpasses, lol. Then we rode it anyway. After that we got fastpasses for Test Track then made our way back out front to take some pictures.

We rode Spaceship earth for the first of many times this trip as it is one of my more favorite rides. We did some shopping then made use of our fastpasses at Test Track. We actually didn’t use them, since the standby was only a few minutes. We went on and everything went smoothly until we burst through the doors before the loop. As soon as we hit the first curve our car screeched, swayed and burnt rubber before coming to a stop. It seriously scared the crap out of us. So there we are on a curve sitting on our sides practically, and uncomfortable, then it starts again, and we’re like, ok. Until it does the same exact thing again on the second curve. Then we sped up a bit stopped again around the front curve and again before re-entering the building. When we went to get off the cast member asked if we wanted to ride again because they were having technical difficulties, but we politely said ‘heck no!’ So we didn’t go on that for the rest of the trip, hopefully next time it will be better. We then had lunch at Sunshine Seasons again, but sadly no pictures this time. Then making our way into World Showcase we grabbed some shots of the surrounding decorations.

Ok, so here I am with a times guide, circling each show we can see at whatever time, going frantically through the list crossing things off, circling, un-circling, yada yada. I think I finally got the lineup down pat so I made a list of a piece of paper and as we went I crossed off the ones we had seen. The only problem I was having now was we would have to take time another day to see two or three of them because I couldn’t get them all on my list. It made me mad; ok, more to that later. First up on the list was Pere Noel in France. I really liked this storyteller and it was a good, fresh start to the day.

So next was the American Adventure; mostly we took pictures of some of the décor, inside and out, then watched the Kwanzaa lady, can’t remember her name though.

Day 6 - Epcot - Part 2

Then we booked it back to Japan to see the Daruma Vendor. I think she was one of the absolute best storytellers in all of World Showcase. Very cheery and comical.

Then we high tailed it back to the American Adventure where we had seen the story of Hanukkah and the Voices of Liberty. It was like a back to back show, lol. I absolutely love the voices of Liberty, and this time we got to experience them singing Christmas carols.

Next up was Italy and La Befana. Now she is in close running with the Daruma Vendor for my number one favorite. I think just because she is a witch has something to do with it.

Off to Germany and a stop first at the Karamell-Kuche for some sweets. This stuff was delicious; a caramel pecan bar and a strawberry; yum.

China was our next stop to see the Monkey King. I am surprised that most kids aren’t afraid of him; he is a bit scary looking. This performer was very energetic and told the story well.

We didn’t do much in Norway this time, we didn’t even go on Maelstrom, but that didn’t bother me since I don’t care for it too much. Sigrid and Julenissen were the storytellers here, but we left a few minutes early in order to see the Three Kings.

Mexico was crowded. But the story here was good. In the one picture I have they must have posed just for me because otherwise I would never have gotten that shot.

Day 6 - Epcot - Part 3


After that we ran the whole way back around to the UK to find Father Christmas. This man was a jolly old elf. He ended up picking on me since I was like the only close person I guess. Holding out his mistletoe on his staff saying ‘I bet this young man knows what this is.’ I was just like, ‘ummm, maybe’ and trying not to laugh. I thought he was going to hold it over my head thinking my sister and I were married or something expecting us to kiss. Everyone thinks that though since we go everywhere together. So I was slowly backing up and he ended up doing it to another couple. He had me scared there for a minute though.

It was then that I discovered that I was going to be able to see all of the storytellers. Yay! So off to Canada to see Nowell. I would have better pictures but he stuck his staff in my way.

The last one on my list was Taarji in Morocco. We only stayed long enough here to grab a picture since we had to get to Tutto Italia for dinner.

It was 15 minutes before our reservation time as we went into Tutto. I was surprised that we didn’t even have to wait; we walked right in and were seated immediately. Everything here was extremely delicious and much better than expected considering the reviews I had read before. The bread was good; we don’t like olives so we didn’t touch those. I had the cannelloni and my sister had the lobster risotto; both were excellent. For dessert I had the trio and she had, I think it was called the chocolate torta; not really sure on that one. But then they sang her happy birthday in Italian and brought out another dessert after that. Let’s just say we were both stuffed until we left there.

After dinner it was getting late so we made our way toward the front of the park to take some night photos and ride Spaceship earth once again.

For some reason we decided to skip Illuminations, which I was sort of bummed about considering I really wanted to take some firework photos, at least to practice for the upcoming party nights at the Magic Kingdom. But I got over it since I was beat from all that scheduling. So that concludes day 6.

Day 7 – H.S./Epcot/Magic Kingdom – Part 1

Our seventh day was a jam packed one. This day we would be attending our first MVMCP. We were excited for it, but went to other parks first. We were up extra early again and at Hollywood Studios for rope drop. Of course we ran and got in line for Toy Story. Afterward we went to the Great Movie ride one last time, and stopped at Starring Rolls Café for breakfast; a red velvet cupcake and cherry Danish.

Then we hopped on Star Tours again before we left for the boat dock to Epcot.

While we were waiting on the boat, we realized we were probably going to be late for our lunch reservations at Coral Reef. So we decided to ride the boat to the Beach Club dock, exit, and walk fast over to the park; we beat the boat. Somehow we made it just in time for lunch and after a few minutes we were seated just after 12:00. We have eaten here before and we love it. I had the Grilled mahi mahi, and my sister the salmon. For dessert I had the cheesecake napoleon and she had a birthday version of the chocolate wave. All was very good and really filled us up. Oh, and the bread here was good too, I just forgot to take a picture of it.

After lunch we made our way toward World Showcase and there was no line for Duffy so we met him. I like Duffy, I was going to even buy a bear but they are really expensive.

Next, since we didn’t see them the other day we stayed and watched the Joyful gospel group, who were really good.

After catching a few z’s and doing some homework, we headed out for our first party. We got to the park, it seemed busy but I guess it was just the rush of people coming and going for the party. We grabbed some pictures and headed to the hub for the Castle lighting ceremony.

Day 7 – H.S./Epcot/Magic Kingdom – Part 2


So now it was time for the parade. We grabbed this spot before 7:00, our only problem the entire night was one cast member who kept walking right in front of us and continuously blocking our cameras views of the parade. It was really making my sister mad because she was trying to film it. So you might see her head in some of the shots here. I’m happy with them, got better ones the second party night, but those will come later, enjoy these for now.

Day 7 – H.S./Epcot/Magic Kingdom – Part 4

Ok, so after the parade we made our way up Mainstreet to the spot I wanted for the fireworks and the Magic, Memories and You show. This was our first time seeing the show, and it is now a favorite of mine, I really hope they keep it for a long time. We both enjoyed the pirates segment and the shuttle launch. The Christmas ending was really nicely done, it was fun to hear everyone gasping when Santa flew his sleigh across the castle; put a smile on my face too So here are some photos.

Next were fireworks which were directly after the MMY show. Now, this was my first time ever photographing fireworks, so they aren’t too great, but I still like some of them. I love these fireworks, and had the songs stuck in my head for the entire trip, even now I’m thinking of them. But, they still don’t compare to Hallowishes, but that’s just my opinion.

For some reason this party seemed really packed, so we made our way into Fantasyland to try to do some rides. That didn’t happen though as the lines were really long. So for like the millionth time that night we grabbed some good old hot chocolate and cookies. Forgot to take a picture of those So we decided to visit some characters. First up, Cinderella, her prince, Lady Tremaine, Anatasia and Drizella.

I wanted to find Rapunzel this trip so I thought she would be in the theater next to the castle. So we got in line, stood for a few minutes and learned that it was actually for Belle and the Beast. Then they told us it would be at least an hour and a half until we would get to the front. So we decided to leave and come back the next party night as we really wanted to see them as well. We decided the same for Rapunzel since we learned of her hideout in Town Square. We made our way into the Adventureland Veranda and met Rosetta and Tinkerbell. We made it just in time as they closed the doors behind us. Both were very polite and energetic.

It was only around 11:00 and we decided to head toward Big Thunder Mountain. Just then we both thought ‘DWARFS!’ We literally power walked to where they were only to be told that the line was now closed, but we were welcome to stay just in case if there was still time to meet them before park closing. So we waited forever. The cast members there were trying to get people organized before it was their turn, taking their bags for them and their cameras. I liked how they did stuff, and it made me happy that they didn’t do autographs, that probably would have taken even longer. So at maybe 10 minutes until midnight it was our turn, and my sister got to see who she wanted, the dwarfs. Funny thing was I accidentally stepped on Sleepy’s foot, oops.

Afterward it was five minutes till closing and we ran over to Big thunder and went on one last time for the night. Then we made our way out and back to the hotel.

Oh my gosh! Todd! The pictures are amazing! I'm loving the fact that you took some of the same pictures with the characters that we did, it looks like the same Prince Charming, and the same Cinderella, but the Lady Tremaine and step-sisters we met were different actors. Also, our group didn't have the winter clothing on.
