I cannot believe it!! I just did our taxes and we are getting back over $5000.00!!! :woohoo: We alway use our tax return for vacations and I was only expecting about $3000.00, but WOW!! Now I am totally freaking out about how to spend the extra money......more table service restuarants, upgrade my tickets to hopper passes, buy tons of souvieniers....or be a good girl and put it in savings...(boring!) Any suggestions on how to spend the extra money at disney???

awww - i am very pleased for you.

Go and enjoy the money.

I'm happy for you, too. I would also recommend the cruise. I have been on 12 cruises (3 Disney) and have never suffered with motion sickness. I have very seldom seen or heard of anyone who suffered at all, even when the seas were a little rough.

Add us to the group of the surprised tax refund. We had estimated that we'd get back $900 and ended up with $2200. Whee! I already paid off our vacation so that will help with food, stuff, and the rental car. That way we can save DH bonus from work!

I think your hubby and you are making a wise choice putting some money away. Always good to have something to fall back on, we just had to use what I'd put away for Disney on a $1200 car repair bill for my DH's daily driver. So getting that back in our tax refund was great!

Have fun planning your vacation!

Dont forget to adjust your withholdings so that you dont get so much back next year. Take whatever you save each payday and put it in a savings account. Open a new savings account so that you dont touch it if you have to. You'd be surprised what that $5k is after compounded interest, even only over 1 year.

Why not earn interest on it yourself instead of the government earning that interest?

My planning goal is a $500 refund. That way if my income is better than expected and I actually have to pay, it's never been enough to incurr a penalty.

Standard disclaimer: Consult your tax adviser, mileage may vary.

Such sage advice . . . coming from a (cough) HOKIE . . . ;)

:cool1: We banked our tax returns from the past two years and are paid in full for our trip this June. This years return will cover all our meals and gifts on the trip. See our trip plan below. Love  those tax returns.

If I read correctely you don't have the park hopper option, I would definately add that & maybe find one Extra (rest, tour, ect.) put rest away for a raining day or something for the house that way you feel like you got alot for your money. But ADD the PARK HOPPER. Lucky you! We are still waiting to see how much we are getting back( we still don't have all our papers). Since my dh got injured at work and spent 5 mo off we won't be getting what we usually do but we are praying for 3000 to cover our trip!!!!! :thumbsup2

OK OK
This is a little different
Go on your trip as planned, however use the extra money as your down payment into the VACATION CLUB!!!
This is the best thing I ever did.
You can vacation almost anywhere!!!

That's exactly what I was going to say!!! DVC!!

I thought I was going to get back that much and then I got hit with some pile of crap called AMT. It won't allow me to use alot of my deductions. I don't really understand it other than to make sure that I pay my "fair share" of taxes. I guess the $48,000 in fed. state income, social sec. and medcare they took last year was not quite enough fare.
