A bank to deposit money into my checking account?

Okay this is going to be somewhat of a weird question but my DFI and I are going to Disney for our honeymoon bright and early the morning after our wedding for our honeymoon. We are going to grab all of our cards from people when we leave and open them on the plane to get the money out of them to spend on our trip! We really don't like carrying ALL that cash around on us. We would like to put some in our checking account. I was wondering if this was possible on Disney property. We bank at Commerce Bank and it is a midwest bank so I know that I won't be able to find an actual Commerce ATM but if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it!

Thanks

You could put the cash on your room account or by a Disney gift card.

I agree with Tissa - you can't deposit money into a bank you don't have an account with so your best option is to either apply the cash towards your hotel stay or if you don't want it to go to all Disney, maybe towards the purchase of pre-paid Visa or MC. You can purchase Travelers Checks but plastic works just as good and is more convenient IMHO. Congrats on the future wedding!

One more option - you will find a Suntrust bank right on Disney property (right across from the Marketplace). They offer pre-paid Visa cards. You could purchase one (or more) of these pre-paid cards and use them like you would any other Visa card. The only difference is you can only spend what is left on the card.

They will charge you a fee to purchase these but you can record the card numbers and keep them seperate in case they are lost or stolen. Another plus is you can use it anywhere Visa is accepted - you won't be limited to where you can shop using your room charge/key to the world card and/or a Disney Gift Card.

I gave these to my niece/nephews last Christmas and they thought it was cool that they had a credit card to shop with.

DH and I opened all our cards the night of our wedding. We endorsed checks, made out deposit tickets and gave them to a family member we trusted (!) to deposit for us at our bank. If you were able to do this, money would be in your account pretty quickly and you wouldn't be carrying large amounts of cash around.

I think the pre-paid Visa is probably the way to go, but maybe you should really open the cards before you leave and deposit the money. My friend got married a couple months ago and she told me she was suprised because they got ALOT of checks, I think she said more checks than cash. What would you do if you open the envelopes and get mostly checks? ... Especially if you are counting on that for spending money?

Good point because I'd probably write a check to the happy couple that way I can personalize it a bit more.

I dont know if it is wise to carry that much cash/checks with you. We opened ours the night before and took some of the cash and left the rest with a deposite slip with my parents. I would hate to see that much money get lost or stolen while on your honeymoon. You might want to rethink your plan. Just my opinion of course. Have fun!!!

Thanks for all the great replies. I think the point about people writing checks is an excellent one to point out. I didn't even think about that. But I really don't see us having time to open our cards that night. Our reception is over very late and we are staying in a hotel with our whole wedding party! Plus we might be a little busy!;) Ok, I just embarassed myself!:o Anyway, I am not sure what we will do but the Visa card sounds like a good idea. I would be absolutely sick if we lost that money or if it was stolen so we want to get it out of our hands ASAP!

I was at a gas station yesterday and there was a sign hanging from the register that said

LOST!!!!

Envelope with alot of cash in it.
Mostly 20's

If you found this envelope PLEASE
do the right thing and return it.
No questions asked.

My whole life was in that envelope.

I don't know the person, but I felt so bad for them. :(

That's what we did too.

This is a good idea if you have someone you really trust. Endorse the checks with FOR DEPOSIT ONLY! That is the big idea. Most banks have ATMs you can deposit into or a night drop. Please make sure you have your deposit ticket with the deposit. If you are really feeling creative I have seen ppl mail the deposit into the bank.

The problem with the gift cards is a lot of banks only sell them to clients and if you get the kind from Walmart they have a lot of hidden charges on them.

I would just put them in the night drop on my way out of town or have a very trusted person help me out. Remember the FOR DEPOSIT ONLY on the checks.

Your trusted bank teller.

I would be very surprised if you got more cash than checks unless you let family know in advance.

Don't forget that there can be a hold of a few days until the checks clear.

I'd leave the checks behind for someone to go to the bank with the next day.

Better to take 30 minutes or so to do the paperwork to get those checks deposited than having to ask people to replace them because they were stolen/lost. You'll be able to leave all your worries at home if you just take a few extra minutes before you "celebrate". ;)

Good point. I didn't think of that. Can you imagine if something happened to the checks and having to contact people to let them know? It's a scary thing to have a lost check floating around.

What about having someone you trust (mom, sister, ect...) open the cards for you? I know you probably want to open your own cards of course, but if you really don't have time....

Hi:

My suggestion is to fill out your deposit slip(s) on your wedding night and on the way to the airport set aside a few minutes to make your deposit. You may want to make several deposits to prevent the envelop from becoming too thick. I agree with the other posters to write on the checks "for deposit only".

Your other option to to have a parent handle the deposit for you.

Have a Great Wedding, Honeymoon & Trip,

Mark

the other option would be to not bring the money at all. Leave the money at home, charge everything to your room and then pay it off when you get home with the wedding money.

Funny thats what we did too. My mom was the branch assistant manager of the bank then she did all the deposits for us. We also honeymooned in disney-we brought a few dollars with us and gave the cash to the attended at check in-she applied the funds to our key card. Worked out perfect. I wanted the cash in the bank back home in case we needed to draw any of it out-we actually did-9/11 happened and our return flight ot NY was canceled we had to rent a car and drive it back. Not to get off topic tho..hope this helped.. CONGRATULATIONS

 I don't know why that didn't dawn on the rest of us.
