I just had to share. Today is my great grandma's birthday. She is 99. She still lives on her own, she cooks all her own meals, and can tell you stories of her entire life in detail (including when she was the housekeeper for Walt Disney's parents for a brief time.)
16.5 years ago when I was pregnant with my oldest DD, I wished that she would be around to meet my DD. As soon as I was clear to travel after my c-section we drove home to see the family. We were so excited to have all 5 generations together that my grandma hired the photograper from my wedding to come and take our photos. They are very treasured photos for sure. With each one of my children I had the same wish, that she could get to see her next great-great grandchild. Each time we'd go home s soon as we could to take the beloved photos with her. Well, now my kids are 16, 11 and 9. While I love the photos of her with my babies, I love even more the photos of her with my children more recently. Like the ones we took at Christmas. They are even more beautiful to me because all I could dream when I was pregnant with them was that they would have a photo with her, I never dremaed tht they would know her...remember her. They know her stories, they know her smell, they know what it feels like to be hugged by her. It's amazing.
Anyway, I don't have much family nor dies my DH. I am an only, his brother passed away when I ws pregnant with DD16, so we don't have much extended family. But today I am realizing that while we don't have much family, we are really blessed by the little bit we have.
