$99 Refurb nook - 3G + WiFi

Ugh...yesterday the sleigh and horse at TRU for our AG girls...today the Nook. I need to stop reading message boards this time of year - too many good deals!!

Now I just need to decide if the Nook is for me, DD10 or whatever name I get in my family's name draw. Right now I'm thinking it's going to be my Christmas present to myself

I was going to buy the Kindle 3G, but the $99 Nook decided it for me. I can't say no to that price. I just saved myself $84 bucks (with tax on the Nook).

Thanks a ton to the OP! Just ordered 2 (one for my DD for Christmas and 1 for me for Christmas) I can't imagine that there will be a much better deal before Christmas on these unless it is something like giftcards for ebooks or something which doesn't really interest me since I plan on starting with the library ebooks and free ebooks. Thanks for helping me save big $$$!

There's a phone number on the listing or you can look up Barnes and Noble customer service line somewhere online and call up to ask.

Someone already called them, but if you want your own peace of mind, go ahead and ask yourself. The way I see it, if I pay by credit card by PayPal, I'll be protected.

As for the legitmacy of the ebay site, I went to my local store. None of the employees had no idea about this ebay store, or the fact that the website was in fact selling refurb items. I was there on the nook showing the employees. The were insistent that these nooks for sale were stolen nooks or a wholesaler and they in turn were pushing me for the color nook.

My local store (CH, NJ) swore up and down that the ebay store was not legitmate since it was barnesandnobleinc instead of bn.com. I then showed them on the google interface that the domain was filed recently for the new name.

I just got off the phone with the contact number on the ebay store. It is legitimately a Barnes and Noble product and www.barnesandnobleinc.com is a legitimate domain and the ebay store was just put in place recently. The invoice will be a bn.com invoice. I then told the rep what happened in store and she was quite upset about this. She then told me she was going to contact the store and tell them that they are a legitimate business.

Double ugh...I sat here thinking about whether I should give the Nook I bought this afternoon to DD10 or keep it for myself or try and share it between the two of us. I just couldn't decide, so I just bought a second one so we could each have one!!

Couldn't anyone set up the site with a phone number and pretend to be the "real thing". Your local Barnes and Noble had no idea about this and wouldn't it make more sense for Barnes and Noble to list them under there own site instead of having to pay a portion out to ebay for these. I mean they would go just as quickly under there own site and save money. I truly wish you all the best of luck.

This was an eBay "Daily Deal". I believe I even saw it on their front page. EBay makes special arrangements with companies to highlight these items. They would not highlight a scam listing that way. Many companies - esp tech companies - list on eBay to up their sales. And they often offer items at better prices than they have them for on their website. It is part of the daily deal arrangement with eBay. They cut the price in exchange for the high volume sales eBay brings them. This offer was legit.

For those who want to call, they have two numbers. 1-800-THE-BOOK and 1-800-962-6177 out of NJ. These are listed on their website for Barnes and Noble Booksellers, Inc.

The sale has ended for the $99 Nook. You can still get them at $119 and other various prices.

Just keep your eyes open. They could possibly run this price again before the holidays. There's also a rumor that the Kindle could go low around Black Friday. I do think there's more opportunities ahead.

The local Barnes and Noble had no idea that bn.com was selling refurb nooks. I showed them both websites and they (3 employees) had no idea. .. they admitted that all they were told to do was push the color nook.

The employees had no idea, manager (shift mgr) had no idea, and the "tech guru" had no idea. I put quotes around "tech guru" because even they had no idea that the domain of barnesandnobleinc and the ebay store was put into existence--even AFTER I showed them (via the nook) what was showing up. Again, the push was not for cheaper refurb but full price color.

I hate having to do other peoples jobs.. the identifying, the product searching and telling the manager what was going on. I had to tell them to look for a press release or a corp memo on this subject. (lots of ineptness!)

When I contatcted the ebay store, I told them. They said they are contatcting this specific store to TRAIN THEM CORRECTLY.

The barnes and noble ebay store has the refurbished one for $119 now...not as good as $99 though!

As for legitimacy the nook HAD to be purchased through paypal as PP said and therefore if the product is not as described or you do not receive it Pay Pal will go after the seller. I have had to have pay pal recover funds before for items not received and they took care of it right away. They really are great protection. I feel comfortable with my purchase.
