We are going to Disney in May and want to do a couple days at Universal Studios. Thought about staying on site so we could get the express line, but I saw these tickets and was wondering if it would be better to get these and use a shuttle/car svc to take us from our hotel at Disney to Universal.

If Disney ends up offering the 4/3 package next May it would be crazy not to stay the 7 nights there... I really think we want the express line, can you add that to the tickets and if so how much is that? My kids are older (16 & 12) so we have no problem doing commando stuff but if we dont have to, would rather not.

I called Universal and they said they have no idea how long the $99.00 deal will be going on so if I think I am going for sure next year, I should buy them a.s.a.p. I hate to miss out on a deal...........

Any suggestions?

Other than a brief time last fall (where they increased the price to $109, I believe), they've had that deal for at least 3 years. You can purchase express passes if you choose not to stay on-site, but I'd wait until I got there for that. Depending on crowd levels it's sometimes much cheaper than the regular rate, although if it is really crowded they can sell out (had this happed to me before). If you're talking about 4 people, though, it is often a better deal to stay on-site, you can sometimes do that for the price of the express passes alone.

Thanks Rip. I didn't realize they have had that deal going for several years. I guess there is no big rush then. If you stay one night at an onsite hotel, is your express pass good for two days (check in day and check out day) or just one day? Trying to keep this as cheap as possible. :goodvibes Better yet, do they have a minimum of two nights stay?
I suppose I should just call them again......lol.

I've never had a problem using my room key from the date of check in through check out, so you should be fine, the dates will be printed on your room key anyway. There is no guarantee that they will keep that deal going, but I really don't see them doing more than upping the price a bit (like I said, I think they upped it by $10 last year before dropping it back down). I've only been required to book a minimum stay when it was a HHN weekend, so I doubt you'll have to book more than 1 night. The Royal Pacific is their cheapest hotel and it is very nice.

Thanks again. I am going to go on line and check out their hotels. I appreciate the info!

Rip, i don't think it has been 3 years for that promo of 7 days for $99.
last year it was about $20 cheaper for it.

i don't believe they had this program in 06.
i bought the ap that summer and stopped doing the passes.
the year prior to that they had the 5 day, 2 park pass which was $120 with the taxes.

The renewal for PAP was $99 a year until it was increased this year.

any way you look at it, the promo of the 7 day pass is fantastic.

disneylover70 would come out ahead by staying one night on site and getting 2 full days of the perk of free express line usage for the family.

for what you would pay for the family to purchase the E.P., apply that to the hotel cost.

you would be saving money on transportation from disney to universal also.
consider that in your decision making of doing a one night stay onsite.

use AAA if you have it for up to a 35% discount off the room.

I bought them for my kids in December of '06, October of '07, February of '08 and October of '08 (actually, I bought them in May or so for the October trip, they went up in August of '08 but have since come back down). This was an internet only offer at the time, I believe. I did not know they had any kind of deal cheaper than $99, I paid $99 each for both of my kids all three of the trips mentioned above.

Yes, the Power Pass was a great deal, but the blackout dates didn't work well for us or I'd have just bought that for the kids (I keep a Preferred AP to get the discounts and things since we go to HHN every year. I got lucky and bought mine before the jumped up so much last year, I think I paid $179 or $189 at most for 18 months, then activated it when we got there).

At any rate, I'm not sure exactly when they started running that special, but I do know that is what I got for the kids every time we've taken them since '06.

rip, you're probably correct on that date.
i last bought the 5 day pass prior.

i started using the preferred ap then. i bought it for the year when Beals had the bogo free year in 06.
i had used my AAA for discounts of 10% and the preferred ap gave out a larger discount.

universal changed that discount to 10% with the aph in what, maybe 07?
08?

i started going to universal in 1992 and have gone annually.
i have seen better deals for the parks and hotels since 05.
i hope it continues.

Just a reminder on specials...they could end at ANY time and without notice. If you see a special that you are interested in, take advantage because...as the old saying goes...you snooze you lose. :rolleyes1

I disagree. What's the worst that can happen? It goes up $10? $20 at the absolute most for the same ticket. Unlikely it'll go up at all, so why not save your money? It's not like we're talking about a huge surge in price here. No rush.

if you were one of the people that took the universal survey on ticket prices,
you would say what metro said.

i was one of hundreds that also took that ticket survey.
