My FIL has chronic lymphocitic leukemia too. I am pretty sure that is what it is called. Whichever one it is, basically you are never cured, you are just in remission. This has changed somewhat though in the last few years. He took Interferon for years and actually it was not supposed to work for that long. Now a new drug was released by Novartis that I think is called Gleevic, and he takes that and they say as long as he keeps taking it, he will stay "cured."

A friend of ours at church also was diagnosed a long time ago--at least 10 years--with some type of leukemia. She does not have the right kind for the drug FIL takes, but she sure seems fine. I don't know the whole story with that.

It's already been 2 to 3 weeks since the initial diagnosis, so can I assume that is good news and it's not likely to be the acute form?

Not necessarily, my aunt who passed away from the acute version had battled it for about a year. She actually got better enough to have a bone marrow transplant! I miss her. :guilty:

my step mom got it about 12 years ago around the age of early 50's she changed her eating habits to more organic foods and has been going strong ever since to watch her you would never tell she has it but I know she was told by her doctor she would more likely die from something else then the actual luekemia. he went on to say that was because it lowers you amoun system and then you are open to all illnesses. do a search on the net I did when she first got it so by now tons of stuff should be written on it. good luck
