........

It is extremely unlikely that the pilots will strike. They have really nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing so.

They should take a look at what happened to Northwest's mechanics. It's been about 3 months now, right? They are out of work and the airline is still flying.

I've been slightly concerned as we leave on Song 12/3 and return on 12/9, so I'm going to keep repeating your words to myself.

This may be a silly question, but I had assumed the Delta pilots and the Song pilots were part of the same group and so would all strike at once in the unlikely event the Delta pilots were to strike...is this assumption correct or am I way off base?

That's why the article calls it the nuclear option.

But they no longer have "everything" to lose because they have lost so much all ready in the Bankruptcy. A great retirement will now be a fraction, probably to be paid by the underfunded PBGC, work rule changes, wage cuts last year, loss of value of all the company matching which had been paid in Delta stock.

The higher a job pays, the harder it is to replace. The lower it pays, the easier it is to replace.

Another article from Yahoo News on this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051114/ap_on_bi_ge/delta

..with Delta saying that if the pilots do strike it would be "murder-suicide", effectively putting Delta out of buisness completely. This does concern me just a little as we are flying Delta home from our Holiday trip.. but it is just the flight home.. ;)

However, if Delta were to go out of business due to a strike (I know, unlikely, but I like to know my options) what would be come of those holding tickets to a Delta flight?

Here's a decent guide to the possibilities:

http://www.hasbrouck.org/articles/bankruptcy.html

Here are some highlights of interest:
If a bankrupt airline in the USA goes out of business, will other airlines have to honor their tickets?
Yes, but only other USA-based airlines flying exactly the same routes (which there aren't in many cases), only if space is available (which it probably won't be in many cases), and only until 18 November 2005. ... There's no guarantee there will be any space available on another airline, especially since an airline faced with the prospect of having to transport a bankrupt airline's passengers for US$50 each would have a strong reason to lower its prices to fill those seats with its own passengers for US$51 each.
The guide also points out that airline ticket holders for a bankrupt airline are unsecured creditors, so are the last to get a crack at the airline's assets after all other creditors are fully paid-off (and there's never enough money to pay them all off, it seems).

In other words: Just hope it doesn't happen.

Add me to the list of people nervously watching and praying there is no strike or that the company doesn't go under in the next three weeks...I was already kicking myself because JetBlue started flying out of Newark for less money a month after I bought our Song tickets out of JFK (an extra hour drive)...now to think that I may not even have a flight is enought to send my nerves into overdrive. Good luck to all of us:)

I had the car serviced and ordered a TripTik from AAA a few days ago, just in case our Dec. 3 flight is canceled and we can't find another one. I figure that since I took these steps it will turn out that it wasn't necessary...kind of like when I fill the bathtub with water for a storm that doesn't really get to us. We'll see. It was ironic, though, when my TripTik and DME packets both arrived in the mail today!

If Delta strikes you can watch Atlanta come to a GRINDING halt... This will not be pretty... There are just not enough carriers to get us out of here...

Sorry, I don't buy the pilots who say they have "nothing to lose" YES, they do a JOB!!! LOL! Since at least SOME of them aren't at retirement age what good is any pension going to do them now????

I think the point, Carol, is whether they want a few of them to lose their jobs (no strike) or all of them to lose their jobs (strike).

Yeah, and I do think that common sense will break out. It did with the NW Flight Attendants....

I really hope so. I'm booked for February. And I almost booked backup flights last night, but decided to wait. I think common sense should win out as well.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm leaving Dec 3rd!!! on the Song from Bradley. Let's hope they are still flying.

Add us to the group keeping our fingers crossed that the pilots don't walk out. We have tickets on Delta for 3 in February and for 11 in June. That's a lot of $$$$ to try to retrieve in addition to new headaches to find other flights if Delta strikes.

Add me to list of "Nothin to do but wait". We have flights 12/23 & 1/2. Every other carrier is either sold out or 300 each way. Even if other carriers honor the tickets we might not get a flight for a week. oh well be happy If the pilots strike I don't think Delta will be around to fly on .

We have flights Dec 5th. Waiting like everybody else! I have found other flights that would get us there if other carriers honor tkts, but not as convenient. :wizard: some pixie dust for all of us waiting & for the pilots!

That's the dates we're flying, dvc guy! Luckily, we are flying Continental on the way down, so its just the way back that we need to worry! *fingers crossed for all of us* :wizard:

Another Delta flyer here....
Flights from SYR to MCO on 11/30 and returning on 12/4

AND
Again on April 8 returning April 16. That one goes to West Palm Beach. Booked it at $218 per person and have not seen it for less then $350 ever since, on any airline. It is Spring break week for us.

SO PLEASE DELTA DON'T LEAVE ME STRANDED......
