Kari is a child?
I totally didn't get that from this thread... sounds like boyfriend/girlfriend situation to me. Maybe husband/wife? I dunno. :confused3

Sounds like a bunch of children to me. :rotfl:

Sandra - sorry about the glasses. Hopefully they will be found and returned. If nothing else, chalk it up to a lesson learned and move on.

Wow, this is the first really silly thread I have read on DIS.

Ummm....can't we all just get along?
I know it sucks to lose something. I lost my wallet once at DL. I was cleaning out my purse looking for my keys and set my make-up and some other junk on the ground next to me. It was dark, my wallet is small and black, and I put everything back in my purse but my wallet. I realized it was missing later that night and went to lost and found but no one turned it in.
I never did get it back. I lost photos, had to cancel credit cards, retake my drivers license pic, etc. But I didn't get mad that no one turned it in. Yes it would have been nice if they had, but there are good and bad people every where, even Disney. And ultimately there was no one to blame but myself for not being more careful. Please don't let this taint your hopefully otherwise good memories of your time there and just be thankful you didn't have to go to the DMV to retake a photo! Now that's a pain in the (bleep)!!! :sunny:

Sorry to hear about the glasses. I know firsthand what it's like to be without your prescription sunglasses when you really need them to get around. I lost mine last Saturday in the body slides at Typhoon Lagoon. I put the glasses in the top of my bathing suit when I went down the slide and when I hit the bottom of the slide, the force of the water pushed them out.

My story had a happy ending though. The lifeguard called a diver and they found the glasses, along with another pair of glasses and a watch. I'm sure finding glasses in a wave pool would be a lot harder though. I was surprised that they would actually call a diver to look for my glasses - it was totally my fault that they fell out.

Trust me, I've tried breaking them myself when I got ticked off at Kari really bad, the worst I did was scratch the bottom of the frames.

 :confused3

I lost a pair of shades in the gulf of mexico about 3-4 years ago. I'm pretty sure that bad lady from the Little Mermaid has them - otherwise they would have been returned by now..

I assumed from the OP's name that it is Sandra (don't know of any guys named Sandra) and Kari is referred to as "her" so if it isn't a mother/daughter then it must be girlfriend/girlfriend.

However does it really matter. Would it be anymore "nice" to try to break the glasses of a girlfriend? Why should it matter to the OP if someone took the glasses if the OP thinks so little of them that the OP would try to break them.
Uh, it doesn't really matter- except that someone made it sound like it was awful to break a child's glasses and I dunno... personally I would find it more awful for a PARENT to try to break a CHILD'S glasses than young boyfriend/girlfriend situation. Neither are "good"- but the parent/child thing seems more awful to me and I believe the person that posted it felt the same way too... they just weren't correct in thinking this was a parent/child thing going on.

I'm sorry you lost these. I'm not sure what age your daughter is. I'm afraid with something that is clearly as valuable I would have been tempted just to leave them in the locker or at the sunbed. Even adults could lose glasses this way or at least have them badly damaged if they come off; I'm afraid the hassle of having to send for repair or replacement would put me off using these in a wave pool. I wear soft contact lenses in the pool and know that worst case scenario I have several replacement pairs (the nature of wearing soft contacts) so I never have to worry. If I don't wear my lenses I'm frustratingly blind and my prescription is only -2.5D.

Must have been karma, then..?

But, it's no ones obligation to pick them up and hand them in - it was your responsibility to not lose them. Don't blame someone else for your mistake.

To be honest, I doubt I would have 'handed them in' to a CM - if I had seen them I would have picked them up and put them somewhere safe, but that doesn't make me 'not nice'. In fact, I think doing just that is nice enough to expect from a stranger - it's just not their responsibility to pick up after you.

I also think that if they were broken and someone picked them up and binned them so no one got hurt then they were doing a nice thing.

(And yes, I've read the whole thread - and commented previously.)

Wow, this has really turned into a bashing contest! Yes it is true, glasses were lost and obviously no one turned them in. Disney is a magical place, but real world people go there and do real world things, like loose items or not turn items in that are lost. It seems as though the expectations of behavior, just because someone is at Disney World, are a bit overblown. So maybe everyone needs to give everyone else on this thread a break!

no one will ever know, if anyone DID find them or not.

I'm not saying any one was being mean, no one was just being nice.

But sweetie, you did. The name of your thread sums that up real quick.

"We've finally come across one not so nice person "

And you have made an accusation that you have no facts on. How can somebody be unkind if you don't know what happened? How do you know that somebody did not turn them in? We had a cheap waterproof camera that we left on top of the trash can outside of the Aladdin Carpets ride when we were there in June. We did not want it and the trash can was full. We forgot to peel the label off of it with our name and phone number. Disney mailed it to us and we got it two weeks ago. Almost 4.5 months later and I get it. I did not even ask for it back. Disney finds/receives lots of missing items and frankly, they are not responsible for returning the stuff to anybody, but they are pretty kind to take the extra steps to do so.

How do you know these glasses did not go down a drain or that they were stepped on?......once broken, they were obviously trash.
"Hello Sandra. We found your useless broken glasses and would like to return those to you at no charge to your FedEx account."
If I found broken glasses in a pool, I would toss them so that nobody cut their foot on them.

There is the possibility that somebody found them, liked the frames and will be taking them their opto to get lenses put in them for their own use. If that did happen, it is a real shame, but sometimes people just don't care.

I think the main points are these.....
1. Kari should have never worn her glasses in the pool.
2. You are making an awfully big deal out of a pair of glasses that you yourself tried to break in a fit of rage.
3. You are making accusations on something in which you have no facts.
4. Kari has now learned to be more responsible.
5. Nobody is mean because your girlfriend's glasses are missing.
6. This is a dead thread and should be closed.

I can tell you, I'm generally not a nice person, I don't say "bless you" every time some one sneezes, I don't bend down to pick up change for some else that they dropped, I just carry on in my own little mind. I don't like interacting with people besides on the web, and when I'm forced to at work.

wow - that says it all
