9 year old turning 10 during WDW vacation

Good timing :) You can buy the passes at the start of your stay and they are good for the entire time so you'll be able to get a child's pass. You could take it to guest services and exchange it after he is 10 for an adult pass, I believe I've read that they'll do this at no charge.

I've seen the Disney literature put it this way "We do not penalize kids for growing up!" The child's pass will work for your trip, enjoy it this last time!!!

My son turned 10 during our last trip on Season passes and I did n't upgrade his pass....I figured I spend enough at the mouse that they could give HIM a BIRTHDAY present...:D :D :D

Call the resort or write to the manager ahead of time
about the Birthday Celebration Vacation.
Tell every waiter, matradee, bell hop, any one who will be enfluencing you experience at an establishment or event.
Also try to get a ride with the driver in the front CAR of the Monorail on the birthday by telling the attendent as soon as you get to the boarding platform.
ENJOY!
