I need ideas for a 9 year old sleep over for my daughter's birthday. Only 4-6 kids. I am not into the whole let's paint nails and do your hair thing. We will do a movie and pizza. Any ideas?

Games are a good idea. My dd loves Apples to Apples Jr.

After the pizza, maybe the girls can make their own sundaes.

If your child's school library or local library carries back issues of American Girl, they have some really cute sleepover ideas. My DD will be 9 in April and wants to do the monkey sleepover. I think the activites included playing monkey in the middle, making sock monkeys and having banana splits. We had copied those few pages but I don't know where she tucked them away

My daughter and her friends (and all of my third-graders throughout the years) have always loved to do a craft. One year, I got them all cloth bags and puff paint and decorations, and they had a blast! They were able to be creative, had a great time socializing and sharing, and got a nice gift to take home with them.

I just did this last Friday night. For DD's 9th B-Day she wanted a sleepover-5 girls in total. We made chocolate covered marshmallows. Each girl put 3 marshmallows on a long lollipop stick (Wilton brand, you can get them at Joanne's ) I dipped them in melted chocolate (I put a glass mixing bowl on a saucepan-made my own double boiler) then the girl could leave them plain, or coat them in mini m&ms or sprinkles (you could do chocolate chips, lots of possibilities). I had a piece of wax paper with each girls name on it, they put their completed masterpiece on it to cool and then I labeled big ziploc baggies with their names and put them in the fridge when the chocolate hardened (which did take awhile- probably would have been faster in the fridge vs. the counter, but there was no room to spread them out). To save a little bit of $ I used the big hershey bars (they were 10 for $10 at the store).

They also had a pillow fight, watched movies, played video games, colored, did those bead things that require an iron, I taught them how to play Mancala, oh and they did a word search. If you go to www.puzzlemaker.com you can make your own word search (sorry-its the teacher side of me here). I put in all the girls names and then a bunch of 'sleepover words' (slumberbag, pillow, games, etc.).

Hope this helps...if I wasn't specific enough on the marshmallows or you have a question, feel free to ask!

Have fun!! :dance3:

PS~One thing I wasn't counting on though, they did stay up ALL night. I let all the parents know that I had tried to get them to sleep, but it didn't happen and apologized. All the mom's laughed and said guess someone will be napping today...

:grouphug:

I second the crafts. My girls love them and so do their friends. For one of our sleepovers, we actually tie-dyed shirts. The girls did all the tying and dying and then we rinsed and washed them the next morning before they went home. They all really loved this. Making mini pizzas is also always a hit as are the make your own sundaes. My daughter also went to a fondue party this year that was a HUGE hit. They had cheese and then chocolate fondue. I guess I'm lucky in the fact that none of the girls expect to stay up all night! We just set a lights out time at 11:30 or midnight and as long as they stay quiet, they can watch a movie from their sleeping bags. Most of them fall asleep before it's over.

Make sure they bring their own cell phones so they can call their own parents to come pick them up at 2am when the 9yo version of PMS kicks in. :lmao:

After my now 18yo's "9yo sleepover", I said, "NEVER AGAIN" and meant it.

Anything to keep them busy. Crafts, make your own foods, crafts, hair and nails, crafts. I recommend avoiding games or anything else that might cause conflict. Discussing who gets Johnny Depp and who gets Orlando Bloom might even be cause for concern. pirate:

Can you tell we did NOT have a good slumber party history??? ;)

My DD and her friends like to do Perler Beads (Fuse beads that you iron together) I buy a large bucket of them for about $10.00 and some stick on magnet strips and they can make as many as they want to take home. It's super easy. I iron them and there is NO MESS!! I like the idea of buying cloth bags and puff paints also. The girls would really like that. Oriental Trading Company has a lot of cute craft kits also. My DD's friends like doing bead activities, making jewelry etc...

Yup, arts and crafts all the way!!! My step daughter is having a slumber party for her 8th birthday. We are getting pillow cases for each girl (there will be four:scared1: ) and fabric markers, and they can decorate their slumber party pillow cases!! It's a cheap and fun way to keep them busy and they are fun party favors! Also I got a silly tiara for each girl and a length of wide satin ribbon to make a sash. We are taking the girls roller skating that evening, so they can wear their tiara's and sashes to the roller rink. It helps us keep an eye on each girl and it makes them feel very festive and party ready!!!

have fun!!!

just had my 10 year old daughters party last weekend.
we did many arts and crafts; here they are
1- as friends arrived they did a hand print on a large t shirt; one for every child; then they signed it; at pj time they all had matching t shirts; they thought this was neat
2- bought several flip flops at old navy 2.50 each; bought scrap material then cut in 1/4 inch wide strips by 4 in long; they sat down and told stories and tied the material on the flip flops; they also loved this
3- bought canvas bags at walmart and they puff painted them
4 they decorated eye masks for bedtime using sequins and beads
5 made a keep sake picture frame from the foam stuff at craft stores; everyone wore their t shirt and posed together; husband ran to the store and printed each girl one and put in their custom frame; they loved this too

good luck! keep them busy and before you know it will be over

All the craft ideas sound great. What about a scavenger hunt where you leave clues that they have to follow. It could be themed to whatever is your theme for the night and there could be some kind of prize or pinata or something at the end. Kids of all ages (including adults) seem to enjoy scavenger hunts. The "Easter Bunny" has done them before for my boys and they loved them. Have fun.
