On this trip there are 9 of us going and we are meeting up at the Premier Inn Dover the night before our sailing to Calais. This trip was a 40th birthday surprise for my friend Lisa.
Due to Mark's new car not fitting in Kirsty very well we have to have Lisa and her family pick up Kirsty
Mark's car
We wait until our kids all finish school and we leave around 5 ish and arrive in Dover at 7 ish. We have been to the premier Inn loads of times before and it does not disappoint. Our friends Terry and Sara are already there and have booked us a table in the restaurant for dinner for around 8 ish
I usually plan my meal months in advance and was looking forward to the vegi tart but was sad to say it was not available so went for the pasta instead.
lots of wine and beer later
We are all really excited about our Disney break and a cast list is drawn up for our trip
We know we have to get up early as we have the 7 o'clock sailing, so just one more nightcap and off to bed
We are fast asleep straight away and before we know it the alarm has gone off. The ferry is on time and very smooth. We buy two bottles of blue absolute vodka in the shop and some perfume and aftershave. Most of us have a croisant for breakfast
The weather is wonderful and I go outside. Kirsty takes a photo of me through the window. The man next to me thinks I am mad
When we get to Calais our first stop is the hyper market to get some supplies.
We make it in good time to our hotel at Sequoia Lodge. We are disappointed as the rooms are further away than last time and definately smaller. We doubt if we will stay here again. We are also not pleased that breakfast is no longer in the park and the only times breakfast is available is during the extra magic hours. I make a bit of a fuss and we manage to get an earlier breakfast for Saturday.
Off to the parks we go. On our walk through Disney market place we go into Planet Hollywood to book an 8 o'clock dinner reservation and then off we go. They are trying out the new scanning machines for our bags, which makes more sense then the usual poke in your bag. Our plan today is to go to the studios. It is after lunch and the park is very busy. There are new rides here for us in the toy story land. There is a small queue for the slinky dog ride so this is our first ride of the day. All the other rides in this part of the park are too busy. We get fastpasses for tower of terror and ride on the magic carpets while we are waiting
This is fun
Dont our kids look cute
We use our fast passes for Tower of Terror (there is no one in Paris stopping you take this naughty shots)
Next is rock 'n' rollin coaster which as usual is a blast
There is quite a queue for the crush ride and think we will try again later in our stay.
We make our way back to the hotel to have a drink and get ready for our night out.
A good few drinks later we are all ready. Our table for 9 is really almost ready immediately but they give us a table for 6 and expect us to squash one of us in and two on the end. This is totally unacceptable and we are advised that we could have another table but we would have to wait quite a while. we are all starving as we have had no lunch so set about trying to squash in. Eventually another table is added as it has now become clear that the restaurant has obviously made a mistake but we all feel humilated by the experience.
To ease our stress me and Lisa pick the wonderful Gorillas in the mist for our first french cocktail of the holiday! It is delish but a little sickly for starters!
We order the mandatory nachos
I somehow get a spainish menu and order the croque monsieur for a main. They come back and explain that I should have had an english menu and can't have a croque monsieur. how strange. I have a pizza instead. so far this trip I am not doing well for my main course choices!!
The kids have a pudding while we have some more cocktails
The bill was very expensive and we were lucky we had Simons book with us and managed to get a 20% discount. Thank you Simon
We walk back to the hotel
It has been a long day and we all go straight to bed
