9 dollar side of fries or broccoli at New Boathouse restaurant

I have been EXTREMELY disappointed by at least one signature... (Le Cellier, steak not as good as Outback, service on par with a fast food restaurant LOL!)

Personally I am pretty much to the point where I only eat at non Disney non DDP places... which leaves me at the Swan/Dolphin LOL!

We used to really enjoy all of the signatures. Not any more.

Is everyone who sees the menu going to post a new thread? This must be at least the third thread discussing the cost of the sides I'm amazed that it's okay for Disney to charge obscene amounts were basically a chain restaurant food but these sides. are getting all this attention

Personally I'd rather pay more for good food. Disney food is not worth the current pricing

We're going to see plenty more threads when the STK and Morimotos pricing starts to appear. Pricing seems on par with any other high end restaurant. At the Yachtsman (a DISNEY run place), a side of mushrooms is $9, and the Brussels Sprouts are $10. I'm not sure why folks are surprised with the Boathouse prices :confused3

Here's a thought. If it looks too expensive to you, don't go. I don't understand the outrage. WDW has a ton of dining options at all price points. The price of the sides on this menu is not atypical of a steakhouse and you are not required to order them. It's amazing how many people have come on here, quick to judge and put down and they haven't even walked into the place. We went, we ate, we enjoyed for about $150 for 3 people. And we had full meals, soup to nuts. Not sure where the outrage is coming from. And no, the mushrooms are not $21, they are $12. Same with the asparagus. Why this restaurant is being thrown under the bus based on a typo is beyond me.

soup to nuts.
How were the nuts? :rotfl2:

JK...but seriously...I agree. I absolutely cannot wait to eat there on our trip next month, but if I wasn't into it, I can assure you I wouldn't be spending my time knocking it on these threads without having been...

The 'signature' label ruined the experience and perception of Le Cellier.
The label changed and prices went with higher suppliers used, but key things remained the same:
- It's loud, really loud.
- It's tight seating.
- It's hectic, a ton of kids.
- It's almost all park attire guests.
- It's always backed up on the check in wait time for reservations.

It's everything that a signature or upscale dining location should NOT be, so before the food even it's the table you're like, "Wth >:(" which leads many to looking for negatives in the meal itself to complete the picture or your mind is already made up before everything else. But as for Outback, the steak suppliers are simply light years apart. Outback still uses Bruss I believe, who's owned by Tyson now. Mainstream beef providers, providing average beef overloaded with seasonings = Outback. I recall asking the manager at Le Cellier who supplied their meat and I was shocked to hear Allen Brothers and other high-end providers. Sure, they're not buying the wet-aged and dry-aged USDA prime cut's from Allen Brothers (Del Frisco's provider), but they're getting solid quality cuts that chains aren't buying.

Shula's is definitely the winner of them all.

Edit- forgot the NOT up above

I wasn't interested in The Boathouse until now. The menu looks great, even for the kid's menu. Price point is expected for such a restaurant. The wine list-can I say bargain compares to other restaurant?? Too bad no ADR until 5/15. I'm changing my non-Park 'Ohana reservation to the Boathouse.

I'm so torn right now..We have a Shula's reservation for May 14th but debating on just going here instead. I just am paranoid about no reservations and would hate to "waste" too much time our last night waiting around.
Everything looks SO good though we might have to squeeze some time in here somehow..oh choices..

I'm about to go :offtopic: but I really need to ask:
Why is everything you write numbered?

1) I write in the "Andy Rooney" style.
. . . try to tell each of your thoughts in one concise sentence
. . . if it takes too many words, then it is not easily understood and lacks impact.
2) This is the way I wrote in business (before my retirement).
3) It is hard to break a habit.
4) And, sometimes Old Dogs CAN'T learn new tricks. *

5) Besides, letters on the keyboard get all the attention and the numbers seem jealous.
6) So, I try to give them some use.
:cool1:

* Usually. However, in my retirement, I have become an ordained minister.

A top of the line Steak house, in WDW.............seems to be priced as would be expected. Even cheap by 3, 4 and 5 star restaurants in big cities.

AKK

You just made my morning. Thanks!!

Interested to see going forward how the reviews are.
Possibly going to try it in October depending on the reviews.:goodvibes

from the Boathouse photos I have seen the portions are enormous, even on the sides. Those sides can easily be shared or split.

Doesn't matter to me, these are not the type of restaurants we frequent, ever, vacation or not!

If we had even one extra day this fall I would be all over a Boathouse reservation. Holy cow (heh), it all looks so freaking delicious.

It's funny how people get bent out of shape over $9 sides at a high-end restaurant in a resort that charges $12 for a balloon at its theme parks. :)

(I will never be over the price for those balloons. We left them behind by accident when we left the last time. To this day if something we purchase averages $25 my husband mutters something about "two balloons".)

Many of the new restaurants at Disney Springs are reportedly going to be high end and not accept the DDP. I'm hoping that will keep the quality of the food higher than other places.

(there's a lot of "Disney mediocre" out there, as well--restaurants that are okay, but we mostly go to for the fun theme)....I am pretty happy it doesn't take the DDP, because it seems like it would be easier to get ADRs without booking far in advance.

Agree - the dining plan has been the death knell for high quality restaurants on site. Most of them (notable exceptions are V&A and usually Jikos + Citricos) are just plain overpriced and frankly not very good (either food wise or service wise). We usually eat at the Swan and Dolphin for nice meals while we're there and are super excited about Downtown Disney restaurants that don't take the DDP. We used to love the "upstairs room" at Wolfgang Puck's but ever since they started taking the dining plan...not so much.

I don't think the Boathouse prices are unreasonable for a nice, sit down dinner. I'm just bummed because I am guessing they eventually will start taking DDP and the quality will go downhill.

HA! Yeah, well, no nuts. I didn't have the soup, either, quite frankly. I guess I should have said from salad to ginormous chocolate cake! YUM!

We are looking forward to trying the boathouse this year. We aren't frugal eaters, but we usually don't do signature rest. As for the appearance of the building- I really like it. I think it is beautiful and the antique boat feel in the bar is very nice. I don't like to dress up on vacation. Capris and a blouse is about the best I want to do- maybe a sundress. I like the appeal of The Boathouse for that reason- exceptional food with a casual atmosphere.

Now those boat rides for $100 for 20 minutes...now that is too expensive.
