9 Days of Singin, Snorkelin,Soarin & Safari'in! APRIL/MAY @ AKL ! UPDATE 6/2

great pics from day 5! too bad you don't have pics from day 4...Typhoon lagoon sounds fun though! Looks like Animal Kingdom was kind of crowded? Can't wait for more pics!

I love the theming of Typhoon Lagoon. So tropical and fun!

I never noticed the smell at AKL, but piping in the wood smoke smell does make sense.

I see you found some of my rocking chairs!

In my haste I forgot to mention that I do have another full day at Typhoon Lagoon with pics coming up....but you will have to wait on those...:rolleyes1

Seriously, i think Andrew would have us at TL every day if he had his way.

Oh we found your rocking chairs alright! I have some nice pics coming up at the end of our TR that I think you will personally enjoy ;)

In regards to the smell, I would imagine anyone that has had a Savannah view would be slightly familiar with the "smell". There is no way that I am the only one that smelled it- but I do have a very acute sense of smell- it always annoyed my mom!!!! She used to say that I could smell things five minutes before anyone else did- maybe I was a bloodhound in my past life!

It was a bit crowded but we did everything that we wanted to and not much wait. I will have another update up later today...hopefully.

thanks for stopping in and I just posted something over on yours.....:rolleyes1

My older kids I think tried to hit a water park for a few hours every day...they love TL! I can only imagine the smell with the animals in the area...great pictures on your morning walk!

looking forward to hearing about your "Death by Disney" day...to me it sounds like a GREAT DAY!
:wave2: Connie

I love water parks- but not a fan of parading around in a bathing suit!!!

It was a funky smell- but the smokey smell totally disguised it!

Death by Disney coming up!

Day 5 Contiunued......

We arrived at Animal Kingdom at about 9:30 am and it was already crowded and hot!

We had predetermined that we would only do a half day that day and spend some time by the pool.

We headed right over to EE and basically walked right on! No wait!

SO much to look at and not so easy when the line is moving fast!

IMG_7012.jpg

See my little head popping in there!

IMG_7013.jpg

Oh here I am!!

IMG_7014.jpg

Grumpy wants on of those statues for our living room....:scared1:

IMG_7015.jpg

Waiting to board our train

IMG_7016.jpg

On the train

IMG_7017.jpg

IMG_7019.jpg

The poor guy in the Hawaiian shirt made it into all of our ride pics and he thinks he's all cool......

IMG_7020.jpg

Here we are on the climb  me no likey the heights!

IMG_7021.jpg

IMG_7032.jpg

IMG_7033.jpg

Mama knows how you feel son!

Andrew and I got off feeling nauseous! I didn't eat breakfast so I was feeling yucky for a little while after that. I am not a big fan of that ride- the last time we rode it I felt ill too!

Grumpy wanted to ride again and I told him to go right ahead and we would wait right where we were ;).

He decided that he didn't want to ride alone so we moved on.

took some pics outside the ride area

IMG_7034.jpg

IMG_7036.jpg

And went over to for or 2 week journey on the Kilimanjaro Safari, cause nothing cures nausea like a bumpy ride through the Savannah!

IMG_7037.jpg

Took some more pics along the walk

IMG_7038.jpg

He is such a Disney rule breaker- he shouldn't have been on that thing! Dork!

IMG_7039.jpg

We met a beautiful Devine- I could watch her for hours- the boys...not so much!

IMG_7040.jpg

IMG_7041.jpg

The wait for KS was about 1/2 hour and we decided to just do it since we were there and wanted to go to the other side of the park after this.

IMG_7045.jpg

IMG_7046.jpg

This one's cool......

IMG_7047.jpg

this one too................

IMG_7048.jpg

I love me some giraffes!!!

IMG_7049.jpg

IMG_7050.jpg

Andrew took the rest of these- he always begs to have the camera on this ride so this time I let him and he didnt do too bad considering how bumpy the ride is!

Continued on next post.........

Day 5 continued....again.......

So after we saved a little baby elephant we decided to walk the Pangani trail.

We hung out with these monkey type animals...I wish I could remember what they were called. They were fun to watch....

IMG_7069.jpg

IMG_7072.jpg

IMG_7074.jpg

Moving along.......

IMG_7076.jpg

Some interesting facts about the Okapi- should anyone need them!

IMG_7077.jpg

Look...see the hippo way back there......

IMG_7078.jpg

These guys were great!

IMG_7079.jpg

IMG_7080.jpg

IMG_7082.jpg

Look how they stand to eat...

IMG_7083.jpg

We always take on of these pics:

IMG_7086.jpg

IMG_7087.jpg

and I am sad to say that I have no pictures of the Gorillas this time, they were no where to be found. So those 2 pics above will have to suffice! and sometimes they even act the part! :rotfl:

That is all I have time for right now-I hope you enjoyed my little morning at the Animal Kingdom and I will be back soon to continue this looooong day!

Colobus monkeys. :)

Great pictures!
I'll look at Animal Kingdom pictures as often as you want to share them. I love that park!

I have to get back to Everest for line pictures, but I'll be happy to exit at the end and not ride again. ;) The one and only time I rode, I went via Fastpass, so no time for pictures. :sad2:

Subscribing!! Really enjoyed your report so far!! :goodvibes Good for you for trying out for AI!! I would never have the guts for that!!

AKL looks lovely :lovestruc

Great pictures from Everest and the Safari! It's too bad you felt nauseous after almost being caught by the yeti. I think I might try and ride again this summer. Maybe...;)

Well, I'm not sure how I missed that you had started your TR, but I found it today, and I have read through all the pages! It sounds like you guys were having a lot of fun. :thumbsup2

AKL looks beautiful---How did you like it compared to Beach Club?

Of course you knew ;). Those little Colobus monkeys were great to watch! I think there was a mom, dad and very precocious toddler!

Yeesh in regards to Everest. I don't like the way I felt when I go off the ride so I am not to keen on riding it again. The queue is one of our favorites though- well it was up until TSM ( I do get to go on the standby queue at TSM later on and took lots and lots of pics!)

Glad you enjoyed my AK pics!

Welcome and thank you for coming out and saying hi!!!! I knew I had to have more readers, and I guess they are all...well.... just reading and that is ok by me! But so glad you popped in!

AI was extremely nerve wracking but it was fun and funny after the fact!

AKL was dreamy- I have a few more resort pics later on in the trip.

It did make me feel icky and I don't like to feel icky, especially in Disney! I say try it at least once- it is super cool and it is even cooler when the big animatronic (sp?) Yeti is working!

Well, I'm not sure how I missed that you had started your TR, but I found it today, and I have read through all the pages! It sounds like you guys were having a lot of fun. :thumbsup2

Welcome- so glad you found it! I say better late than never ;) and you did have somewhat of an excuse for showing up late! Cant wait until you start yours!

Ok my brief thoughts on AKL vs BC ( I will elaborate more at the end of my TR) :

AKL was love at first sight, but as far as the room goes I preferred my BC room. It felt bigger and way brighter. The lighting in the room at AKL is very dim- which was good for the body image. It made me look thinner and my skin looked flawless! Oh and it hid the grays well too!!! :rotfl: the problem was when I got to the parks under the bright fluorescent lighting in the bathrooms and I was like :scared1:!!!!

Oh and nothing, I mean nothing beats the BC location! I missed being able to walk over to Epcot. I am glad that we tried AKL- I know my husband and Andrew absolutely loved it! I loved it too but I think that the BC will always be my one true love :cloud9::lovestruc. ugh- resort decisions, I hate having to choose!

Update coming up.....

ok- I am going to try and finish our crazy day but I have something a little off topic first.

My mom is currently sailing through Europe!!! Lucky woman- she deserves it though. She left last Thursday, flew to England and is now on a Holland America cruise ship. She called me on Sunday to tell me that they were leaving Copenhagen. She went to Hans Christian Anderson's home town where she got to see the famous statue of The original Little Mermaid. She said she took pics, we'll see. She is heading off to Russia now and will then go to Sweden, Finland and Estonia.

I told her that I was not the least bit jealous, nope not at all, after all I had just taken a wonderful little cruise of my own- from Morroco to Germany :rotfl:!!

Ok back to our day........

After our little walk to through Pangani we decided to grab a light lunch over at the Yak and Yeti Cs. We had the egg rolls back in 08 and loved them. It was packed over there but we did manage a table in the sun- it was hot!

IMG_7088.jpg

IMG_7089.jpg

A hot and hungry 10 yr old!

IMG_7090.jpg

random pic

Ok no pics of the egg rolls but they were just as yummy as the last time- i think I may have used a snack credit for these- I cant remember but whichever credit I used, they were so worth!

We moved on to Dinoland USA and decided to try a little adult torture!

Seriously Dinosaur then Primevil whirl- the 2 most parentally abusice rides at Disney!!!!

First we were violently bounced around and nearly eaten by a Dino,

then we were violently spun:

IMG_7091.jpg

IMG_7094.jpg

and taunted by a dino....

Funny enough, I did not get queasy after those 2 rides- go figure :confused3

oh and then we hit the store where found the most stinken, cutest ears ever.......

IMG_7095.jpg

omg- how awesome are those- and the kid modeling them is not to shabby either!

we did not buy them though.

and these were silly.....

IMG_7096.jpg

Then we had these........

IMG_7097.jpg

Andrew chose the sandwich

and I chose........

IMG_7099.jpg

in honor of that cute hat

continued on next post......

wow! wonderful pics from EE and the safari! Especially those giraffes! wow! That's so cool how that animal stands to eat!!! Can't wait for the next update!

continued......

at that point we were hot and thought that a nice swim in the pool would do us a world of good so we headed back to our wonderful resort.

We swam for a bit, took showers and headed out for the evening.

First stop was Disney Quest.....

IMG_7100.jpg

Andrew played this basketball game for an hour striaght!

IMG_7103.jpg

IMG_7104.jpg

IMG_7106.jpg

IMG_7107.jpg

IMG_7108.jpg

So I decided to leave the boys and go exploring:

IMG_7109.jpg

IMG_7110.jpg

IMG_7111.jpg

those are some cool rides- we did those the last time we were there. i loved the jungle cruise the best! You sit in a raft and the floor below you inflates and lifts your raft up. There is a big screen in front of you and it looks and feels like you are going down rapids! We laughed so hard when we rode this ride!

Then I found the place where you can build your own roller coaster and then ride it. I went and got the boys and they did it and had a blast. here are some pics that I took from the outside of the ride.

IMG_7114.jpg

IMG_7116.jpg

IMG_7117.jpg

there is a camera inside so you can see their faces. Andrew was nervous at first because he didn't know what to expect and ended up loving it!

IMG_7118.jpg

IMG_7121.jpg

IMG_7119.jpg

I didn't ride because I am too claustrophobic to sit in and enclosed tiny cylinder type contraction :scared1:.

see.....

IMG_7128.jpg

IMG_7127.jpg

and then it was time to head over to Fort Wilderness.................

continued......

IMG_7134.jpg

Leaving Disney Quest......

Ok let me just preface this next part to say how excited I was to FINALLY be going to the Hoop De Doo Review!!!!! I had been there once as a kid but didn't remember it at all. After reading all the reviews, and having this booked for our 2008 trip and then canceling it because we decided on something else, I just could not wait to get there!!!!

We drove to the campgrounds and followed the instructions for the internal buses.

We arrived over at Pioneer Hall way early- I think we got there at 8:15 for our 9:30 show :rotfl:. We ended up talking to a really sweet CM from Australia, she works at the little stand right outside Pioneer Hall and absolutely loves her job!.

All of a sudden I hear fireworks and then I remembered that there is a beach somewhere down at the end of the road where we were and that you could hear and see the fireworks from wishes. Yippeee!!! Andrew and I booked it down to the beach just in time, found a chair and watched the beautiful fireworks. I love those unexpected little touches of Disney Magic when you least expect it!

IMG_7137.jpg

IMG_7139.jpg

sorry bad fireworks pics- but it was the best I could do :confused3

IMG_7140.jpg

IMG_7136.jpg

waiting to be called in.......

Ok I hate to do this but I have to tend to some chores tonight that I have neglected. I was really hoping to get to HDDR but life is getting in the way of my dising tonight. I will try and get back on later tonight and finish this wonderful night out.

Just found your trip report, I will go back and start from the beginning, but had to say that we were in that room last year !! I went through my pics to find my room number pic, and sure enough same room. Love that location, I am all for the pool view, usually centrally located near food, lobby and bus. Going back to read report,:thumbsup2

Oh, I did ride Everest once -- of course I kept my eyes closed for most of it, but I can say I have ridden it.

Egg rolls and Mickey ice cream! Yum!

Oh my goodness, the Mickey ice cream ears are too cute, and Andrew looks great modeling them! :thumbsup2

We are big Dinosaur fans at our house -- we love that ride!

Never been to Disney Quest, but it does look like a lot of fun!

Hurray for catching a glimpse of the fireworks! :lovestruc Looking forward to hearing all about HDDR!

I did Everest once and I have no desire to do it again. I love you got to see Wishes from the beach such a nice little happy surprise. Can't wait to hear about your dinner.

I found your TR!! Hi Donna, I was following along with your PTR and got so thrown off after our trip that I totally lost yours!!! I am so happy to have gotten all caught up!! We were there April 24-May 1! LOVE LOVE all the pictures of AKL, what a beautiful resort!! We were at DHS the same day as you guys were! It was a great park day!! LOVE all the crazy pics in front of the hat!!! Andrew looks like he is having a blast!! I can't wait for more, I am having fun following along!!!!!:goodvibes:goodvibes
