9 Days of Princess Hair - a June 2010 trip report - update 9/24 the drive home

OMG, you have me crying like a baby! I can NOT wait to do that with Shelby when she is 3!

I think I may have been as excited as the girls when they turned them around for the reveal. The looks on their little faces when they see themselves all made up...

I envision you with an 8 AM appointment on her 3rd birthday. princess::wizard:

The BBB pics are awesome!! They look like little princesses!!

The pictures of the castle in an empty park are pretty cool too!!

Thanks! I love the pictures DH got from the hub with nobody in them.

WOW! I love all the BBB pics of your beautiful DD's. They definitely look like princesses. Thanks for explaining all the steps of the process. I can't wait to see the photopass pictures as well. I am also looking forward to hearing about how they liked the castle. Also, curious to know if you ever make it to Akershus.

Thank you! The FGITs do a really wonderful job making the girls look beautiful but not overdone. The photopass pictures are awesome because the photographers know what is going to happen so they get all of the best angles.

Well, depending on when school lets out for Spring Break, yes!!!!

While we were waiting for ropedrop, DS1 entertained himself by walking around this circle!
DSC_0042.jpg

When 9 AM came, we all split up again. DH and I took our kids to ride Dumbo. We made it on the 2nd cycle. From there, we went over to Pooh which is a ride we all love. As we came off, DS1 looked at me and said “more?”. Who could refuse that? It was only 9:20 and Pooh was still a walk-on, so we rode again. Then we went for rope drop at Toontown. We parked our strollers by the Tea cups so we wouldn't have to deal with them. While we were riding Dumbo, MIL went and got us fastpasses for Buzz and then met us at Toontown. She also grabbed some fastpasses for Peter Pan before heading to breakfast.

At Toontown rope drop, we followed our assigned CM and were the 3rd family in line to see the fairies!! The fairies that day were Fawn, Tink, and Terrence and they were all wonderful with the girls!
DSC_0050.jpg

DSC_0056.jpg

All our pictures with Tink were terrible, but there are good ones on the Photopass. Notice that it has not even been one hour since our BBB appointment and the face stickers and sashes are already gone. They couldn't resist playing with the stickers which were quickly no longer sticky and they both declared the sashes scratchy. DD4 was VERY disappointed when we were done with the fairies because she REALLY wanted Silvermist. :sad1: This would be our first tantrum of the trip and it lasted from leaving the fairies until it was time to meet Cinderella.

While we were doing Fantasyland and the Fairies, FIL took the nephews to ride Space Mountain. I am not sure if they did anything else.

Everyone joined back together for our 10:15 ADR at CRT. We were called upstairs before we even did our pictures with Cinderella. Since we were a party of 9, our package included 3 photos. I asked each of the girls if they wanted to have their picture taken alone or together. DD4 said “alone” and DD6 said “together”. I decided we would do our pictures as 1) DD4 alone, 2) both girls 3) all 9 of us. These are all on the Photopass.

Once we did get upstairs, our server came to get our drink orders, deliver the bread (croissants and cinnamon rolls) and explain our choices. Neither allears nor the DIS have the menu we were offered. There were 3 choices: the American Breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, breakfast potatoes, and biscuits), Stuffed French toast (which included berries and bacon) or the healthy breakfast (fruit, yogurt and granola) The cinnamon rolls were very good and our table ate at least 3 plates of them. I ordered the American Breakfast. It was good and I ate all of it. DH ordered the French Toast:
DSC_0058.jpg

He liked it very much. Both of the girls got the kids French toast sticks with scrambled eggs. DD4 prefered the eggs and ate all of those but pretty much ignored the french toast and focused on cinnamon rolls. Our breakfast came quickly as did Aurora, Belle, Ariel, and Snow White.

As you know, in the castle they do the wishing ceremony (which we actually heard this time – it was WAY too loud in there on our last trip). They also give all of the girls fairy wands and the boys swords. This may have been the most exciting moment of the trip for my DS1. His little face lit up and he grabbed his sword and exclaimed “Knife! Hi-ya!” Where do they learn these things? :confused3 After 2 girls, I am still adjusting to life with a boy. OK, on to the princess pictures:

Aurora was wonderful with a sword-wielding toddler:

Snow White was a little more cautious (she had asked us to take the sword away for the picture, but then decided to just stand back):

We were leaving CRT by 11:30 AM. The boys did this while waiting on the girls to use the restroom:
DSC_0092.jpg

Our next stop was It's a Small World which was a walk-on. This was the only ride the DD4 wanted to go on while we were planning. It is a classic and everyone enjoyed it. Next was Cinderella's Carousel which was also a walk-on. I love pictures taken on there!
DSC_0099.jpg
DSC_0097.jpg

DSC_0098.jpg

From there, we rode Peter pan with our fastpasses. DS1 was a little nervous when we started to “fly”, but he got over it quickly when I pointed out Nana! We had planned to ride the Tea Cups before our breakfast ADR, so we stopped by there next, but the wait was 15 minutes so we decided to skip it and head for Buzz. We rode this with our fastpasses and everyone loved it!
At this point, FIL and the nephews took off for Frontierland to use some fastpasses that MIL had picked up while we were on Small World. Finally, we saw the 1 PM Storytime with Belle Show arriving just in time to get the last seats in the shade. I think this is so cute and I wish my kids were brave enough to be in the show. We were having a little trouble keeping DS1 in one place, so MIL took him and we agreed to meet at the Main Street Bakery.

It was now about 1:30 and we were HOT. We stopped in the bakery and used our very first snack credits!!! We got an ice cream sandwich (I ordered this after hearing about it on the DIS. You should have seen the looks on my DH and DDs' faces when they started to make it!!), 2 strawberry smoothies, a bottle of water, and an apple juice. After cooling off and sugaring up, we made our way to the monorail and over to Epcot.

Up next, Epcot in the afternoon!

We had Silvermist!!!! And sooooooo glad we did, but that will come in my TR!

Aww. I am a little jealous. I am curious to see what time of day you were there. I hear she is more common in the afternoon. I had considered giving it another try, but couldn't bear to disappoint DD4 again if she wasn't there.

On Monday, while we were trying to meet-up, MIL and I let DS1 play in the little water fountains in the walkway to World Showcase. When he saw them, he wanted to play again. DD6 followed him into the fountain, but was surprised when the water got taller. Her dress got wet which caused her only meltdown of the entire trip. She was whining and complaining that having a wet dress made her legs hurt. :confused3 I told her she would dry in a couple of minutes which she did.

Since we had already seen almost all of the princesses at CRT, we were only looking for Jasmine and Mulan. We also hoped to find the Beast, Mary Poppins and Alice. We have seen Alice at Akershus before, but we have never seen Mulan there, so we decided to go to China to try to find her first. We had a little trouble finding the spot, but eventually found a line waiting for her to come out. There were about 4-5 families in front of us and we only waited about 5 minutes before she appeared. Mulan was WONDERFUL. She took a lot of time with the kids. Mulan is DS1's FAVORITE “princess”.

At this point we head over to our 3:20 ADR at Akershus and have about a 10 minute wait before being called in to have a picture with Belle. Our package included two pictures and we decided to do one of the girls and one of everyone. We LOVE the food here, but then again DH and I could eat salmon everyday. If you are not fish eaters, you may not like the food here very much. We started with the cold bar where DH and I both got lots of smoked salmon while the kids had bread, cheese and deli meat. Then we ordered our meals. I had the salmon burger with potato salad and corn chowder.
DSC_0138.jpg

DH had the mushroom stuffed pasta.
DSC_0139.jpg

We both loved our meals. However, FIL and DN12 had the Kjottkake and HATED it. It is described on the menu as pork dumplings, but what you actually get are really dense meatballs. Neither of their meals were actually eaten. DD6 got the kid's ravioli which made her very happy since she had missed it at Tutto on Monday and DD4 got the kid's pizza which she shared with DS1. The desserts here were good, but not as good as they used to be. There used to be this incredible liggonberry dessert that I miss. The princesses were the same as at CRT.

DSC_0134.jpg

After our meal, the girls were done being in their fancy princess dresses (I am actually surprised they made it this long) and changed into some Tinkerbell dresses I had made for them. At this point, we split up and only the girls and I stayed at Epcot. Everyone else returned to POR. The boys went swimming while everyone else crashed. We started walking around World Showcase looking for princesses. When we got to Morocco, the CM told us that Jasmine and Aladdin's line was closed but they would be back at 5:50. We walked on to France looking for the Beast, but instead found Marie!
DSC_0142.jpg

After getting our pictures with Marie, we decided the only other character we really wanted was Jasmine so we went back to get in that line. We were the 2nd family in line and we waited about 15 minutes for them. They are some of the absolute best characters!
DSC_0150.jpg
DSC_0152-1.jpg

We then jumped on a Friendship boat and made our way out of the World Showcase. We stopped in that store where the boats land (is it called Port of Entry?) to buy the girls Epcot passports for use later in the week. We then made our way out of Epcot. Once again, we were back at POR and in bed by 8 PM after a very long and absolutely WONDERFUL day!

We were there between 2 & 2:30. It was wonderful!!!!

:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1: My Photopass CD arrived in the mail today!! :woohoo:

Prepare for more pictures!

Our first photopass pictures were taken on our arrival day while DS1 was playing in the fountain. He was having a great time and I was taking his picture, when suddenly there was a Photopass photographer. She took a couple of photos and then asked me if I knew how Photopass worked. I said I did and I had already preordered the CD. She said that I should tell all the photopass photographers that and then proceeded to take a bunch more pictures. Here are my favorites:

OMGoodness!! I love it! All of them are priceless though!!

We had little luck with princesses on our trip. I promised Madison our next trip will include Akershus so she will be guaranteed princesses without the lines! All of your pictures are so great!! Really Priceless!!!

Wow, I am off the Dis for a few weeks and I completely miss the first four pages! I am all caught up now.

Yay for the corner room at POR!We had one and it really made the room feel bigger. Your pictures are great. POR is so pretty:cloud9:

Tutto looks so good. Whenever I see pictures I add it to my to do list, but then when I think about my ADR's I never seem to think of it. I'm not sure if we will do the DDP next trip, but if we do I will add Tutto to my list.

I love all of the pictures of DS playing in the fountain. He looks like he is having so much fun!

The girls look so cute in their princess dresses and BBB. CRT looks pretty good for breakfast. I never like the options I see on allears but I like the menu you describe. It actually looks pretty good! Maybe next time we'll try breakfast if DD wants to go there.

And I love your detailed cost. I was thinking of doing something like that but didn't want to have something DH could see the real cost of the trip. Since I paid for most of the trip he never had the grand total. When we got home he printed out his cost off his quicken money tracker and he spent $700 while down there. He circled it and used a bunch of exclamation points. Really? I guess you don't want to see my cost tracker:rotfl:

Can't wait to see more.

Sorry to hear you didn't find many princesses. Akershus is really the best way to see a bunch and get decent food for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures!!! It helps to have kids who like having their pictures taken. :)

I agree. I know the room isn't really bigger. But something about the added light makes it "feel" bigger. I  our room and POR!

Tutto is SO yummy! But it is one of those places that makes you feel better about using the dining plan!

I love all of the pictures of DS playing in the fountain. He looks like he is having so much fun!

He could have stayed there all day! He doesn't like to get in a pool, but putting his hands in running water is fabulous entertainment. :rotfl:

DH LOVED the stuffed french toast. He was looking at the picture last night and said "yum" just remembering it. It is worth a try!

Sometimes it is better if they don't know. :lmao:

OK, that is all the Photopass pictures for now. Up next, our “break day”!

On Thursday, June 10, our plan was to sleep in, take the boat to DTD, do a little shopping, have lunch at WPE and then head into AK for a few hours in the afternoon ending with a 7:25 ADR at 1900 Park Fare.

Despite the plan to sleep in, DD6 and I were awake by 7 AM. She is not the type to be quiet, so we got dressed and headed out for a walk. After a short walk, we decided that we wanted to walk over to POFQ, so we went back to the room to get the camera and discovered that DS1 was also awake. We popped him in the stroller and took him along. It was BEAUTIFUL early in the morning. :lovestruc

DD6 really liked looking at the pool
DSC_0161.jpg

and DS1 really liked these guys:
DSC_0157.jpg

They were all over POR and POFQ and anytime he wasn't strapped into his stroller, he would jump out and hug each one as we went by.

After looking around a little, we went into Sassagoula Float Works and used a snack credit for 3 beignets. DD6 ate hers and I ate mine, but DS1 used his to decorate his stroller with powdered sugar. :sad2: Eventually, we took it away from him and DD6 and I ate it. We then walked back to our room. For my amusement, I timed it and it took us exactly 18 minutes from our table to our room door.

Everyone else started getting up around 8:30 and we were on the 1st boat of the day to DTD (which left at 9:50 AM). Our captain was from West Palm Beach, FL where my DH grew up and so he was fun. Once we arrived in DTD, we went first to Once Upon a Toy. Each of my girls had $34 of their own money that they had earned or saved for the trip. The first thing they wanted was to fill a box of Mr. Potato Head parts. They both already have the potato part at home and since the $20 for the box would have taken almost all of their money, I encouraged them to share a box and each pay $10. They liked this idea. They picked out the pieces that they wanted and while I was trying to stuff their box, they went off with DH and came back with plush Minnies ($14 each). DD6 found a princess Minnie which she really wanted and she convinced DD4 to get the fairy Minnie. When we went to pay, I used my Disney Visa and got the 10% discount. While we were waiting for the nephews to make their purchases, we took pictures with “Buzz”.
Girls with their new Minnies:

DSC_0163.jpg

Some comments about the princess hair. First, DD4's is still pretty much perfect. So, to all those who worry about getting BBB and CRT on the same day, it is wonderful if you can, but if you can't the hair will last. DD6, as you can see, has removed the crown and is now opting for one of the bows I made them.
Little guy playing with his new train (purchased by MIL):
DSC_0168.jpg

Notice that the little guy is wearing socks and sandals in this picture. Why? Because somehow between leaving home and arrival day he managed to outgrow his tennis shoes! When we got back to the room the night before the little fellow had blisters! So, the only shoes he now had were his sandals and he is wearing socks to keep the bandaids on.

Next, we went to the Lego Store. DD6 was disappointed that there weren't any Princess Legos. The girls walked around, but decided there really wasn't anything they wanted. I found some great Duplo sets for DS1. They are the new Toy Story 3 sets and CUTE! I bought him one and MIL bought him one. He will get them for his birthday later this month.

Then we went to the World of Disney store. I could spend all day in there! :woohoo: I have to say I am so glad we had cell phones, because we all split up and I have no idea how we would have ever found each other back without them. The store is just so HUGE! DD6's remaining $10 was really burning a hole in her pocket, but most of what she found in here that she wanted was more than $10. DD4 found an adorable water bottle for $4 so DD6 picked out a $5 princess cup.

Finally, we had lunch at WPE. I shared the rotisserie chicken with DD6. I had planned to get a brownie for my dessert and to take it with me so I would have room for a stop at Ghiradelli. But, they were out of brownies!!! The only dessert choices were cookies, crème brulee and frozen yogurt. I got the frozen yogurt. Ghiradelli will just have to wait for another time. :guilty: DH got the 4 cheese pizza and frozen yogurt. DD4 and DS1 shared the kids macaroni and cheese with a cookie. Everything here was really YUMMY. I wish I had taken some pictures, but at this point we were just hot and hungry!

Up next, Animal Kingdom in the afternoon!

What a great way to start the day! Morning at POR was so great!!

I love World of Disney also!! I could make it a day event!! Sorry you missed Ghiradelli's!! It will give you soemthing to look forward to next time you go!!

It is so beautiful and peaceful around POR and POFQ early in the morning. I went for walks almost every morning after this.

I am still sad about Ghiradelli's! I SOO wanted one of their sundaes. Like you said though, something for next time....sniff.
