9/7/02 Fellow Cruisers

Hmmm...I am confused...I just spoke to a Disney rep. today and specifically asked about dining times and she told them they had not changed at all. I was actually changing from main to late seating anyhow so it really doesn't matter to me but it kind of makes me wonder...

I just checked the Disney Cruise website, and noted that there are still catagory 4,5,6,9,10 and 11 rooms showing available. You probably will not have a problem changing to late dining. When you get to the boat, go to the customer service desk, and ask to change dining times. On our last cruise, they were ready for this, and had new rotation slips ready.

Looks like our ship might not be too full! More space at the pool and at Castaway Cay or all of us!

I think it would be a great idea if we could all meet up.... especially for the kids it is always great for them to have friends on board.

Ok so it may be good for all of us to have friends on board... I feel like a kid ARE WE THERE YET??????

We should definitely try to get together. Brent B, will you be sending your 4 yr old into the Club? My 4 yr old is so excited and it would be nice to introduce her to kids that will be going. She has informed us that she will have a better time on the cruise than us!

We all should try to get together. Whether it be the green ribbons, or maybe adding the Disboards logo to your lanyard, we need some way to identify each other.

Can't wait. Time seems to be standing still, doesn't it!

DH and I have been discussing what things we might be interested in doing together or separately, and he is not at all interested in high tea at Palo's, but I am .

I heard it's not to be missed, but I do realize it's something not all men would like to do. Any other ladies having that problem and still want to go? We could get a few of us together, if any other 9/7 ladies are interested. High tea by myself doesn't bother me at all (being the independent soul that I am;)), but I thought maybe that would be a good time to socialize with the other lady "DIS"-ers.

Just a thought. Just 3 more weeks to go!:Pinkbounc

Well I know that DW had talked about going however I do not care to go.......

Is anyone planning on scuba diving during the week? I love to go but DW does not like it.

What and when is the High Tea? If my 2 yr old will cooperate in the nursery, I would love to join everyone.

Shellgoodman,

(I'm logged in under DH Randy, but this is DW Kim talking!) High tea (I think they call it that) is usually in the afternoon and I think on one of our days at sea (3-4 ish?). You have to make a reservation for it, just like dinner and brunch at Palo's. It's a typical English tea, which includes several varieties of tea, finger sandwiches, scones and assorted little finger desserts. One of my friend's sisters gave her a "tea" for her birthday, and I went and really enjoyed myself. Found out I loved lemon curd -- who knew ;) ??

I'm not sure how we'd all make reservations and meet, though. I'd be willing to make the reservations if we get a group together. I don't know how I'd tell you about it unless I had your room number to call you all, but I don't know if everyone would be comfortable giving that info out on a message board. I could certainly understand not wanting to. Maybe we could meet the first day on board at a certain time at Palo's with our lime ribbons on, and if we find each other, we can reserve a table together.

How would that be? If it works out, this could be fun! :)

Brent...

DH and I are planning to go scuba diving at Coki Beach Dive Club in St Thomas. Just wondering if you've ever been there. I've looked for other places to scuba dive during the trip but that's the only place I can find. I've never been scuba diving, by the way...but DH has and loves it and is dying for me to join him so I'm going to try to forget my fears and accompany him. :) :) :) :)

We will be there as well.
This is my first time posting on this board so I am not sure what all of the abreviations are so I am just going to type out my list.

Myself 36, husband 37, daughter 12.
Bestfriend and husband, son 8, daughter 6, and daughter 4 and grandfather ??.
We also have some another family of 3 and a grandmother and granddaughter coming as well. Not sure on the ages of those kids.

My husband will be turning 38 while we are on board, Sept 11 to be exact. I hope this birthday is much better for him then last B-day. My bestfriend will also have a birthday while on board, hers is Sept 10.

We have all taken many cruises in the past but this is our first Disney cruise and we can not wait. Hope it is everything that we have dreamed of and more.

See ya there!!
Crystal

Most Excellent, Crystal. I know you'll have a blast. You'll have to post a trip report, so that you can compare the Disney cruise to other cruises you have taken.

To quote a popular 80's song, "The Waiting Is The Hardest Part!"

Randy

I just realized that you are in Kansas City. We live in Belton, Mo and the rest of the gang going lives in Olathe, KS. What a small, small world!!

It took trips to 3 different craft stores but finally found some. The anticipation is getting really bad. It makes it hard to get any work done at all.
High tea sounds lovely and I would enjoy meeting some of the nice people from the board.
I spoke with my son's 3rd grade teacher today about his absence during the cruise. I am trying to get the school to count this time as independent study time. I have heard it done before. They were less than pleased that he will be out of school and mentioned that summer time was a more appropriate time to take family trips. We will go with their blessing or not. Anyone else having trouble with the school?

Quickdraw, my kids are still little so the school issue won't really start until next year. My 4 yr old started Pre-K last week that is provided by the state of GA and they have rules. They disenroll the kids from the program if they miss more than 2 wks in school. I explained to the teacher that we planned this vacation long ago. We moved from Connecticut to Georgia recently and the school year starts so much earlier down here than up north. We still haven't figured out why. We're still a fish out of water living in the south. I guess it takes time.

From looking at the boards, plenty of people take their kids out for vacation purposes and don't regret it. Don't feel guilty.

Before I forget, where did you find the lime ribbons?

Shell,

I found the ribbon at Hobby Lobby. I don't know if they have one in GA. I purchased 2 yards for a dollar. I guess I will make a bow for members of my family. Is there a proper way of wearing the ribbon?
About my son missing school, I don't feel guilty at all. I just don't want him to get off on the wrong foot with his teacher. I explained that he will do all of the expected assignments. I think they are more concerned with the state funding loss due to his absence than his educational well being. Independent study benefits everyone. They don't count him absent so they don't lose funding. We will see how this works out.

Well, I am off to Hobby Lobby tomorrow. I think I saw one near me. I think we should ask the frequent Disney cruisers how to wear the ribbons. I am new to all of this.

We are counting down the days (using the paper chain link that we made as guidance). All my 4 yr old talks about at school is the club she is going to!

My daughter is just starting 7th grade tomorrow. We talked to her teachers at orientation and several of them are letting her do special assignments. Her English teacher is letting her do a report on both St. Maarteen and St. Thomas. Her science teacher is giveing her a list of specific items to find at the beach and in the ocean. She does not have to bring these back but she will have to write a paper that goes over each item on the list. Her math teacher said vacations are for fun. So she does not have to do the daily assignments she will be missing. The teacher will test her to make sure she knows what they covered during that time period. Social Studies teacher was thrilled that she was going and wanted to come with her, but he did ask her to prepare a slide show or video of historical buildings and sites on both islands and to be prepared to discuss them.
I gues it is easier for the older kids to do things like this. Hopefully the kids get some enjoyment out of the trip as well as learn about different cultures.

I saw on the board that the Sept 1st sailors are getting upgraded left and right. Have you been upgraded recently? Do you think our ship is full? I am still looking to get out of cat 11 even though it is midship on deck 6 (good location, I think). Our TA hasn't mentioned anything and I don't want to make a pain out of myself.

My guess is that they won't be upgrading people until the final week. They want to try to sell as many of the open rooms as possible. Then, if more people want cat 11's, they may bump pre-existing people up, so at least they get the reservation. I've got my fingers crossed for a nice verandah, but if it doesn't happen, that's fine, as well.

BTW, we got a call yesterday from the Disney Shore Excursions, stating that the ship would have a brief 9/11 memorial on the 11th, and they wondered if we wanted to change our shore excusion that day, so that we could attend. Anyone else get a call?
