9/4 Cruise a Disaster!!!

The show must go on, that is all that comes to mind at this time.

I am sorry this happened to you and what you described sounds horrible. I can tell the anger in your posting.

On the bright side - You didn't post that anyone got sick or had illness because of this bus ride and the breakdown, so that is good news. Not that it makes your situation any less horrible than it was. A lot of bad things can occur in your mind if you start playing 'what if'.

I am sure they did not send an unsafe bus on purpose.
Was it a Mears bus that you were riding? Some of the comments the driver made about the bus breaking down twice in the past year? What does that have to do with anything? I had a car that broke down three times in six months, yet I didn't think it was unsafe to drive after I got it fixed all three times. And, why did the bus driver let you off the bus on the side of the road when there were alligators present (or was there just the dead alligator)? It sounds like the driver may have put you in an unsafe position.

Everyone on that cruise had a chance to cancel. I don't think DCL deliberately put anyone in harm's way. I think they were in a no win situation. Damned if they cruised, damned if they didn't. No one MADE you go to Florida, knowing a major hurricane was coming and one had just hit. If you are going to blame DCL for putting your children in danger, think of what you did by making that trip, again, knowing full well what was going on.

I remember reading on this board how some were leaving their homes in other states to drive down. That made no sense to me. They were evacuating people out of Florida and people were trying to get there to go on a cruise??? Talk about putting family in danger!

I 'm sure it wasn't safe sitting on the Fl. turnpike. It's not even safe to drive it. I'm sure DCL didn't send that bus knowing it was going to break down. Am I apologizing for DCL. No. I think they made some serious errors in judgements, just like I think everyone who went on that cruise made some serious errors in judgement.

Sorry you had a bad cruise. The word compensation will surely come up again. Remeber, every CM in Florida and on that cruise had family in harm's way and I'm sure they were thinking they would have rather had been with them than listening to all the apparent screaming that went on during the past couple of cruises.

Perhaps you should try a different cruise line during hurricane season.

Suffering from the old Disney infallability syndrome, eh? I know no one was hurt or killed, thankfully, but let's just say that they had been. It was certainly a possibility given this ill-conceived scheme. Would you STILL be defending Disney so staunchly?

Were you responsible for making decisons that literally affected lives plus millions of dollars in revenues? And profitablity is a vital factor for any business. And for a cruise line with only two ships, this could have been a devesating blow that they might not have been able to recover from.

Alright, last post before this gets even uglier. What was meant by this statement is not that they were only protecting their bottom line, but that those people making decisons are responsible for the financial aspects of those decisons as well as logistics, public relations etc., etc. It is one of the many factors, but as a business it is an important one, that only adds to the complexity and pressure of such decsion making.

And you know I don't underestimate the tremendous difficulties and potential dangers of your situation. Do I think they should have found a way to get to you quicker and gotten you out of the situation faster? I sure do. It sounded horrific. But they sure didn't send you out there knowing that the bus would breakdown and you'd be left suffering for three hours.

But I'm done. You go on a rant all you want. Write them the most scathing letter you can possibly pen. I'm outta here.

This has turned into nothing more than bickering back and forth.

I'm closing this to further conversation.

Sue Ellen
