9/27/14, Returning to the Southern Caribbean

Welcome Lee Ann!:cool1::welcome:

I was at Michael's today and started scoping out FE stuff! I know it's too early though, but I'm excited!

Thank you for the welcomes :cool1:

I'd like to make a request for the front page, Barbados information...please mention that people should not wear anything with camouflage, it is illegal and you will be asked to leave the island and return to the ship! My hubby happened to be 'that guy' who had to change his shorts and we almost risked a cave exploring excursion because of it. No one had notified us from the cruise ship (Royal Caribbean) prior to arrival or at disembarkation that it was not allowed! I'd had to have anyone else go through the same experience!

Thanks for the heads up! Never heard of such a thing. They should let people know such a crazy thing. We don't have camouflage but lots of kids wear it everywhere.

I have been gathering FE stuff too!:goodvibes
You're not alone in early planning. I keep looking for sales or unusual ideas for things every time I go out. My poor dresser is getting full of stuff for my next 2 cruises and my clothes keep getting stacked on the hope chest. LOL!!

My brother in law said Camo clothing is illegal in St. Lucia as well. It's a military thing.

Hi everyone,

last night we went and saw Paul Revere and the Raiders at Epcot. They were great as usual.
Today was spent house hunting again but we were back in time to watch the Fantasy pull out on the web cam tonight.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend too,

Kathy

Good too know about this island's rules too. It was funny how i purchased the first camo anything my husband ever had and he gets in trouble for having it. Needless to say, I won't buy him camo again. :lmao:

That would be my luck!! Them my DH would never let me live it down, how ever the cruise line has to take some blame for not telling people.:thumbsup2

Is see your going to be at Animal Kingdom in 5 months. Maybe we could have a quick mini meet? I live 10 minutes from there right now and even after we move we will be close enough that we can still go to Disney all the time.
Something to think about anyways. Let me know if your interested when your a couple weeks away from coming.:thumbsup2

Off to Disney today, not sure which park yet but will go early before it gets busy.

I found confirmation on Wikipedia:
http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbados#Law
- Interesting note: The local military consists of approximately 600 personnel (about 25% of the number of GUESTS on the Disney Magic)

Page 1 (Post #1 and #2) have been updated
- So now you know what NOT to wear, but make sure you read both posts, to know what you SHOULD wear ... either in town, or in the ocean!

Good morning everyone,

Steven the front page just keeps growing and growing, kinda like my waist line LOL!!

It looks great!

The front page, not my waist :rotfl:

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I know I did and a very busy one.

Another week is gone so we are another week closer to our cruise:cool1:

I saw reference to camouflage not being permitted in St. Lucia, but only on various blogs ... nothing on any official, or pseudo official pages. As for Barbados, there was discussion which addressed camouflage ... in that it was NOT prohibited, unless the style resembles or replicates what is worn by the local military.

In essence, there is a lot of varying information out there. If anyone has a link from a reputable source, please share it with me, and I will update thepost on page one. That aside, when I am packing for a cruise, I prefer to bring lightweight, tropical attire.
::yes::

I forgot to mention ... when the Magic was on its first Mediterranean Cruise (2010 ?), guests were notified of specific rules for clothing to be worn in Middle East countries (ie: Tunisia) ... especially by women. Women were told to make sure their knees and shoulders were covered. Unfortunately, when guests were departing the ship (en route for a DCL excursion), various guests apparently forgot about the dress code. When the group met up with the local guide, the local guide turned them away (back to the ship) for proper attire.

As Americans, we can travel our country for days and weeks on end ... without straying from our home culture. However, when we leave US soil, as a society, we must remember to abide by local guidelines. I recently posted a note on page 1 regarding dress in Barbados (other than cammies) ... including where NOT to wear swimsuits ... as well as where men are most often REQUIRED to wear collared shirts.

I am glad to hear Disney did announce the restrictions. That would help a lot.

Thanks for adding everything to page 1 for us.

Kathy

That would be great fun :)

We'll talk as it gets closer.

Hmmmm, wonder where that 'virtual verandah' idea came from?
;)

I'll stick with Disney.

I know their new stuff is not for me but I bet the wind tunnel will be packed from open to close. Probably have to reserve a time to do it.

But it does make a person wonder what cruise lines will be doing next? They keep trying to out do each other. I do like the ice skating rink many RCI ships have. I would do that or roller skating rink. Kids would really eat that up!
