Welcome Chris, Carol, and your cast of thousands.

Castaway Club Level? Silver (this will be our third cruise)

Disney Vacation Club owner? Nope

We just got back home from our second eastern Caribbean on the Fantasy (first was on the Magic) where we booked a dummy date on board. We thought we would cruise in 2015, but when I saw there could be exciting itineraries in late 2014,I told Jeremy that if there was a southern Caribbean, I would be nagging and whining until we booked. So, we are booked. Our daughter will be beginning kindergarten that year, but I already verified that our district considers family vacations excused! We sailed concierge on our first two cruises, but decided the benefits weren't as beneficial this time around. We are in room 8580. We were in 8078 on our Magic cruise, so we know we like that area of the ship!

Our latest cruise did stop in San Juan. I will share some photos when I get back online. It is nice to see so much action on the thread and we are looking forward to meeting all of you!

I am glad DCL is returning to the Southern Caribbean ... who else is in?

Hello everyone! :wave2:
We are insanely excited about this trip. It is a long wait, but it will be amazing! We live in Orlando, FL and before moving here we lived in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico which is about 20 minutes from San Juan. If anyone has any questions at all about PR, I will be more than happy to help. :) We were just there on the Inaugural voyage to PR on the Fantasy that departed on November 3rd and it was fantastic! We are so excited to be going back and this time, we sail from San Juan! We have family and friends that will most likely be joining us that live in PR, so the group will continue to grow. Can't wait to get to know you all, may the countdown begin!! :hourglass

Can you tell us roughly what we can expect weather wise? I know it's hurricane season but do the island get affected much by it?

Welcome Aboard to all the new comers! I lost track there are so many already. Adds to the excitement. I'd love to join the FE group, what info would u like from me?

Melissa

WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW PEOPLE!!!!

This thread is growing fast!!!:goodvibes

Melissa, for the FE I need:
Your first names of adults
Names and ages of kids ( if you dont want to say your kids names, at least say DD for daughter and her age or DS for son and his age at the time of the cruise) Many give something separate for kids, thats why the gender and age is important.

Cabin number
Any food allergies

Plus I need your e-mail to send you a copy of the FE. I will not add it to the FE, so nobody will see it.

Feel free to e-mail or PM me your information anytime. My e-mail is sixtoedfrog@yahoo.com. Please put FE on the subject line so I know its you or you may get deleted.

Thank you!!
Kathy

Sailing concierge has it's benefits ... have not sailed concierge as of yet ... have always had the mindset to use the extra money to go on another cruise. Then again, we stayed at Animal Kindgom Lodge Concierge ... and I can certainly get used to it! :cool1:

Thanks for sharing any information (and pics) you may have about San Juan. Since this technically is not a port of call, any information will help those who are doing a pre/post cruise stay. We were in San Juan for a 4-hour port of call in 2006 ... we opted to walk around portions of Old San Juan. If nothing else, we certainly have enough time to do research.

***When we get closer to the cruise, I will look into a group hotel stay (pre/post cruise), and perhaps a group Bacardi tour (if there is interest). I believe the Bacardi facility is very close to the port.

(weather) My suggestion would be to visit the appropriate tourism websites (some are listed on the 1st page, 2 posts) ... some will provide average temperatures and rainfall for each month throughout the year.

(hurricane season) My personal observation is, the vast majority of the storms impact NORTH of the Southern Caribbean. Though I rarely cruise during the hurricane season, having sailed dozens of times out of Florida, I have found the harshest conditions are when we sail through the cooler waters of the Atlantic (off of Florida). When we enter the Caribbean ... the warmer waters provide for calmer waters.

Thanks Steven, that is along the same lines I was thinking. Now I have 1.5years to worry about my flight being delayed ;) Flying from Vancouver should prove interesting!

Hi Melissa,

The weather in PR during this time fluctuates. Usually rainy days, but when its not raining its gorgeous and sunny. The average temperature during this time is in the mid 80's. Unless the Atlantic is not active with storms the weather should be clear. It changes every year, some years you get nothing, maybe a couple of showers here and there, other years even if the Islands are not getting directly hit, it rains almost every day. This past year they had a couple of lite storms so I'm crossing my fingers this year will be crystal clear :)

I believe the Bacardi facility is very close to the port.

The Bacardi Distillery is across the bay from San Juan in the town of Cataño. The quickest way to get there is taking the ferry from San Juan across the bay to Cataño, but once on the other side you would have to take a taxi to the Bacardi which is a short 5 minute ride. The other option is taking a taxi from San Juan to Cataño which can be around 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

HAKUNA MATATA!

Thanks for the clarification. The information I saw on a 3rd party website suggested it was 1.6 miles away from the port ... so I am guessing they were assuming use of the ferry. I'm wondering if the ferry would qualify as a pre-cruise cruise?
