9/19/09 Western Magic

mamjojo: that is great news! I was feeling anxious for you awaiting another surgery date. I am sure you are breathing a big sigh of relief.

I was reading a thread on the main cruise board that said it would be a good idea to check on food allergies before handing out candy in the FE gifts. I hadn't thought to do that before. I would hate for any child to receive something they can't eat. So do we have any food allergies in our group?

We are trying to get costumes together for all of us. We also made the pillow cases for the kids last night to have them signed at GS. They turned our pretty cute.

I received a call from the Dr. Friday night and had to see him yesterday. They have set a date for my next surgery and it could not have worked out any better if I had planned it ( which work might think I did :rotfl:). The surgery will be August 14th and I will be off work for 4 weeks, which is the day we leave for Disney, so I will be going right from sick leave into vacation. I should be fine by then and ready to enjoy everything! I am so happy. I was worried that I was going to miss out on the fun because I would still be feeling unwell.
Wow! That works out perfectly! I'm so happy for you and your family!! ;-)

That is great the date worked out perfectly for you. I hope everything goes smoothly. :)

No allergies in my family. :thumbsup2

We will be dressing for pirate night, I just don't know how far we will go. If my DH had his way, he'd be doing head to toe with his boots, hat and full costume (we are Ren faire people so he has everything) Its mostly up to what room we have in the suitcases, and how heavy they'll be.

We have an 8:15 ressie at Palo on Thursday night, what time are you guys going to be there? I didn't know it was Pirate night, might have to rethink this....again.....lol

7PM so we will probably still be there.
we will be easy to spot. I'll be sitting with the guy everybody mistakes for Ship's crew.....pirate:

LOL! I just looked at wdwinfo.com and it says that Pirate night is Wed. on the western, anyone know for sure? I really want to see my kids on deck on pirate night, so I may cancel if it's on Thurs.

Also, this is a dumb question, but my sister emailed and asked for the excel version of the FE list, and was told it's here under "files"...she asked me to forward it to her since she's not a member, but I have no idea where to look! Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks :)

I'm not sure it is possible to avoid all allergens for everyone but I will say this. My grandson (DGS7)(yes, a year older then my youngest two:rotfl:) has a very serious fatal peanut allergy. That is what the Doctors have labeled it.

He carries an epi pen, as do his mom, dad and there is one in every corner of the house and car, etc. He has had more then one close call. . . That being said, it is hard for others to know what is and is not acceptable. Our DGS has been taught not to put anything near his face or in his hands and of course nothing in his mouth until it has been cleared with someone on his list of "People in the know" and, he does not, period. ever. he doesn't forget.
I say all this b/c often there are things people do not think of. We read labels constantly, know our safe go to products and still check even those labels. People generally forget hand lotions, shampoo, sunscreen, or spice or oil in a food, and the list just goes on and on and on.

My Daughter in law is fabulous with all this. They trick or treat just like normal and switch out the candy later, They only fly on specific nut free airlines or drive instead, and yes, the list goes on. She would never ever want someone to NOT give them something in their FE or worry about what it was. It's all about the fun of getting it.

Just my 2 and a half cents! Others opinions may vary. My prime example is York Peppermint patties or plain M&M's. Both on the "no way no how" list for peanut allergic kids but hard to know that w/o experience. Some whole companies are off limits due to package practices within their plants.

Just one last FYI, the effects of an epi pen, does NOT mean the crisis is over. The meds will kick in and help for a very limited time (generally 15minutes is what we get, you still need to get your kiddo to a hospital for treatment asap. Lots of people think the EPi Pen fixes the problem and then all is good.

Okay, climbing back down off my soapbox now. I just love that kid like crazy! And truthfully, he just wants to be treated "normal". A hard balance for sure.

I do (or used to) Ren Fairs, too, so have a wench outfit but got a new pirate one while I was getting costumes together for the wee ones and the 27 year old....she should look AMAZING....got her in the mood, for one. So, she will be pirate queen with beautiful captains jacket and spikey boots (she is already 6 feet tall)....this should be good, as she is the most non-wanting-to-be-attention-getting girl and is also so beatiful that she gets attention anyway.....her and her four-inch boots that match the outfit should be getting lots. (this is her b-day present/xmas present for the next year).

Whew! Thanks!

Can someone point me in the direction of the FE excel sheet? My sister was told it was here under "files" but I don't know where to look!
I think she means in the Yahoo group, I know it is there under files. If you are not already a member of the group, send me your email and I will send you an invite.

We are dressing up for pirate night. pirate: My sister made all our costumes. We also have no food allergies.

Holly the pictures look great, you got some really beautiful shots.

I am beat and it is only Monday! Teens have VBS all week (M-F days) they are teaching and yet they still have two evening activities as well:sad2: The energy of youth. My little guys can not go as they have picked up 5ths Disease from a preschool group, pretty harmless, I am told but they are sickies for now and just now starting to feel a bit better. <sigh>

Still did the State Fair and Beach on Saturday. Family tradition made for a great family day, even a bit relaxing as we took it all slow with little ones not 100%. :thumbsup2

This Saturday we head for Family reunion in PA and then an evening at Knoebles. Gotta love a free admission amusment park and great food. I do exactly 2 rides (ski lift and giant ferris wheel) and pay for exactly two rides! Love that!

DD14's 12 day-first house sitting adventure ends tomorrow. No pets died, no plants are permanantly harmed and no alarm companies called equals a job well done! It's been good and fun to help a friend. She also talked me into another overnight (we have had 8 overnights in the last two weeks!) with a friend after youth group tonight and I have 2 wide awake giggling teen girls in my house at 11:41pm! tomorrow am is gonna come early. We all have to be up and out by 8am:scared1:

And my piles of cruise stuff are just sitting. I need energy! gotta get going on my FE gifts. Well, what I mean is I need to stop buying stuff:rotfl2: and start putting it all together! I just keep seeing such cute things. . .:upsidedow Just found this great pirate puzzle book I might use to make some fun activities for the kids. . .oh the plans keep growing.

Free movies tomorrow for little ones, nice quiet cool activity while we wait on teens. This summer is flying by! Come on September!!! :woohoo:

What's everyone else keeping busy with to pass the time?

LOL I spent many summers at Knoebles! My grandparents live in Lewisburg so when I was up there that was the go to place to take my cousins and myself. I was never a big ride person but my uncle took me on that wooden rollercoaster and scared the heck out of me and then the ferris wheel... well I wont go into it but I don't ride any rides anymore because of that wheel!

On a little side note our family could sure use some prayers, chants, blessings any good thoughts, HC is in the hospital and I figure the more people we have thinking about him the better! He will likely kill me for posting it since he is so private but oh well! :rolleyes1
