9/10/2012 ~ 6 WONDERful nights ~ VC to L.A.

Wow. Love that the group is continuing to grow!
:thumbsup2

We're planning on doing the Alcatraz at night tour as well. Apparently it's very popular and sells out so we're going to book our tickets ahead of time. Just something to keep in mind for anyone else thinking of doing it.

I also really want to ride the cable cars. Keri found an iPhone app from Trip Advisor that has a cable car tour of San Fran that you do on your own so we might try that. We're also considering a food tour. And I kind of want to go to the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar.

Can I join the looney early planners club? We've had this booked since April 2011!!!!!! :rolleyes1

Cheers,
Marsi

Looneys Unite! :thumbsup2

Where did you find the app for the cable car tour? I know that it can be tough to board in some places because the cable cars are so popular. Loved riding them anyway!

Bald Fat Camera Guy Here! Yes, I'm an annual passholder and I'd love to help you out, but I don't think I can get out of work those days. We usually drive up on weekends occasionally. If you're coming to San Diego, I can surely work something out. I'll also make a note on the office master calendar; I'm a lawyer and many times cases get continued or settled and I don't have to go in.

Thanks,

Dave

It's the free "TripAdvisor City Guides - Offline Maps, Reviews, Walking Tours" on iTunes. I'm going to download it too, that way I won't have to keep looking over Keri's shoulder.

Good point about it being hard to get on the cable cars. Maybe we're better off to do one ride on the cable cars and use the hop-on, hop-off bus for our tour.

Cheers,
Marsi

Hey all! Has anyone considered those one-day or two-day "Hop On, Hop Off" SF Tours? (http://www.allsanfranciscotours.com/body.asp?tour=SFO-B0009&page=TourDetails or others I assume.) The bus drops you off at all the touristy places and another comes around every thirty minutes. And it's pretty inexpensive. Sounds too good to be true. Opinions?

We're totally considering it!!! I've done them in Washington (DC), Montreal and right here in Vancouver. It's a great way to see a city. We actually got the Vancouver one on a Groupon last summer. Keri's joined Groupon San Francisco to see if we can get any similar deals. *fingers crossed*

This does sound like a good deal! Also, a nice way to get around the city at your own pace. I'm going to check out some of their other tours later, as well.

Thanks! I'll make a quick visit to iTunes and check it out!

Last time I was in San Francisco, lines seemed to turn up at the cable car turnabouts, but had no trouble at other stops. Of course, there was no guarantee of seat in either case. I kinda need a seat as I'm a little too old, chubby and lame to hang on on some of those hills!

I'm looking at it, too! :drive:

Do share if Groupon offers a deal.

Hmm, one of my quote did not come through :confused3

Anyway, thanks for the advice to prebook the Alcatraz tour:thumbsup2

Oh, and we had this trip booked on the first day it was available to book (don't reacll now when that was) so I think that makes us members of the early planning club too :rotfl:

Are you on the cruise? Oh gosh if you are I have to tell DD15 to look for the bald, fat guy taking photos and talk HIS ear off about Star Trek for a change :rotfl2: (kidding, kidding--but my like for the shows is just not as strong as her love--she is VulcanGirl here on the DIS--and everywhere else she goes online--and can wax o about Trek for hours if given the chance, so I saw the Picard avatar and HAD to comment:goodvibes).

Dave ~ We will be in San Diego on Saturday March 10. We are going to Sea World. I have a one day pass with your name on it if that works better. Thanks for being our bald, fat camera guy!! Look forward to meeting you pre-cruise.

Okay, just have to do the happy looney dance here...

Jay and I got our passports! Something new to go in our planning folder!

:bounce::Pinkbounc

Wonderful! Didn't everything about the cruise suddenly seem more 'real' when the passports arrived?! :thumbsup2

We used to have Sea World passes but they expired and I dunno what happened! My DW and DD have a girl scout thing on Saturday but I can definitely break away for a bit and get some photos for you, no problem! Looking forward to it. Email me at bklawyer@cox.net and I'll get you all my info so we can hook up.

Thanks,

Dave

We are absolutely cruise-ready!!!! And I LOVE The Next Generation. I mean sure, who doesn't love all things Star Trek, right? Well maybe my family. but what do they know, right? There's no good TV these days! But I can talk Star Trek for hours. No worries there. If there's a bigger geek on the cruise than me, please point him out!:)

Here's how we did it, for all you So Cal people: Driving from San Diego to Long Beach Airport (cheaper flights than SAN and LAX by a long shot). From there, it's a 2.5 hr. flight to SEA-TAC ($89, pretty unbeatable) and we arrive at 12:45PM. Then we're gonna do some sight-seeing and stay overnight (don't know where yet. I suspect a hotel!!!!). The next morning, we're hopping the Amtrak Cascades to Vancouver. It's like $30 per person, and it's a 4 hour scenic ride through the Pacific Northwest. How awesome is that! We arrive at 11:45AM, do some sightseeing, another hotel, and the next morning on the ship. About $500 travel, plus hotel, for 4 people. Thank you, thank you. I'll be signing autographs for all! Thank you. :cool1:

Thank you so much for the tip about Long Beach! We are looking at a similar trip but we were going to fly from LAX. I didn't even think about Long Beach. Much closer to home, the port, and cheaper flights. :cool1:

Wow! What a great deal! That's awesome!

While the Long Beach Airport isn't much to write home about, Jet Blue flies from there, which is a huge plus for us. It's my favorite airline. Being a not-so-tiny woman, the extra room in the seats is helpful, plus the entertainment options, free snacks, and first bag free policy make flying from there a big win.

We'll most likely be flying back from Long Beach to Portland.

But still $500 for four people? I'll take one of those autographs, please.:worship:
