9-08-2010 Pirates through the Mediterranean/ Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Us

Hi Everyone,All I can say is WOW!!:yay::yay: Today when I came home I had a surprise waiting for me.
My DW has booked us on the 10 day Med. for my 55th Birthday!!!!:bday::bday: to me!!

See you soon!!!!

Hey! what a great husband you have! What a great birthday surprise!

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone is going home on the morning of disembarkation.
We have a 10:30 am flight out of BCN and will most likely take a taxi to the train station and then take a train to the airport from there.

If anyone planning to get a private shuttle to the airport that morning?

Also, does anyone know if Disney offers an option to allow you to get off the ship early if you take your own luggage down? RCCL gave us the option last year.

Hi,

We did the Barcelona to Dover in June and a taxi from the airport to the port was only about €30 and was much less hassle than the train would be. It took less than 20 minutes too. We are going to do the same on this cruise, but we won't be getting off the ship that early on disembarkation as our flight is not until after 2pm.

People were getting off early in Dover, but I'm not sure how early - 8ish? It might be different in Barcelona, but I would get a taxi straight there to save time.

Hope this helps :)

We have a flight that leaves BCN at 10am. We will be taking a taxi directly from the port to the airport. From what I have read - that should be fine. We are on Delta and was also told there was Delta check in at the port.

Make sure you let DCL know that you have an early flight - you can go to guest services and tell them. Depending on what your dining is... if you are early dining, then you could probably have the last breakfast and leave the ship after. If not... Topsiders will be open for a light breakfast (mostly continental breakfast..)

They will let those off with early flights first, but the ship STILL has to clear customs. The luggage is the first thing to go off the ship in the morning - not sure if they will let you carry it off.

Does anyone know penguinmomma? She asked to join the FE way back when and I haven't seen anything else from her or any details. I sent her a PM awhile back, I just don't want to miss out on getting her information for everyone and if I don't ask when I'm thinking about it, good luck remembering!:confused3

Hi!
I'm so sorry for being gone a bit. My FIL died somewhat unexpectedly so we needed to travel to the memorial then my 4 year old broke his arm- both bones in the forearm! Sheesh! But the cast should be off before the cruise! :) YAY for all of us!

Is there still room for the FE?

And we are still planning our excursions! There is just SO much possibility with the port stops!

William~ Thank you for your service! My husband is AD Air Force (EOD). We've got a soon to be 2 year old and a 4 year old who will be with us. I hope we bump in to you :)

Yes, Disney will let you get off the ship as soon as it is cleared by the local customs.....but I would take a taxi to the airport if I were you.

Do you have room for 4 people on your Malta tour? It sounds great! Connie

I think you mean wife- hee hee. :goodvibes

Congrats on your trip its going to be a blast!!

Sorry, I didnt' realize.....It's hard to tell husband or wife just with Disboard names.......but I'm glad you are having a wonderful trip for your birthday!

Connie,

Yes I have space for the 4 of you for the Malta tour.

On my last cruise, I had shared a taxi with another couple from the cruise (through cruisecritic.com). We got off the ship at around 6:45- 7:00 am with our luggage and just grabbed a taxi to the nearby Franca train station (a 7-10 minute ride). I think we paid 8 Euros for the taxi ride for the 2 of us. From there it was a very easy ride to the airport. All in all, a cheap and easy way to the airport.

We are really short on funds for this trip and are trying to see if we can share a ride.

Thank you everyone for your help.

pengiunmomma, I'm very sorry for your loss, then to have your 4yo hurt, it's been a stressful couple of months for you! I'll add you back to the FE list, that'll close us out with 14 cabins, and 14 kiddos, so not an enormous number :)

Planning excursions is awesome! We're spending a couple of days in London, and a couple of days in Paris before the cruise, plus the day and a half or so in Barcelona before and after, so we've been planning those days too. But I can't complain, I'm getting to plan excursions in Europe! :cool1:

It's also really nice for me, my husband (the original Freak, he's pretty much totally relinquished his DIS ID to me :lmao:) loves planning and setting up trips, so I get to pick what I like, or would like to do, and he makes sure all the arrangements are made, I've got it really lucky! Post your info either here or on the Exchange thread, and don't forget the kiddos favorite colors for me, and I'll update the thread.

We are new to the forums and this will be our 1st ever cruise, but we will be on the Sept 8 Cruise!!!:banana::banana:
We decided last week to book and got a great rate for category 6.
We are a 50 something couple celebrating our 30th anniversary while in Rome. We have been on a previous Rick Steves tour of Italy but we are really excited to be doing this by boat! pirate:
We are long time Disney fans and have done so many trips to Disney World we can't count. We now have a daughter who grew up on Disney that works for the Company and she recommended the trip!

How do I add the pirate logo at the bottom???

Thanks everyone for your sympathy. I think in some ways it was a blessing, he did go peacefully and my mother in law is leaving the area for the first time in almost 4 years- he needed her and couldn't travel. So, it could open up some opportunities for her.

Great! I don't think we have our room yet, but I'll check the exchange thread and post info. And get on the train thinking about FE gifts!

The excursions are just intimidating I think- so many opportunities and everything sounds amazing. I'm the type of person who loves to see everything I can when I'm someplace new, but with our two kids we definitely have to be a bit more selective. And I do all the planning... DH helps where and when he can but his schedule is demanding. I can't believe it'a almost less than 50 days out, right? YAY!

Hello Simba One and welcome, thought I would share this with you,

We (Jon and Marie) are also celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary this year by taking the cruise........

We also have a daughter who works for Disney, firstly in 2005 at Epcot and now working in the UK HQ..... what a coincidence :) :) :)

We have also done WDW many many many times.....

Welcome and I know you are going to have a magical time.

Welcome!:welcome:Welcome! You are in good company now! There are LOTS of us around your age! We can party after the younger set puts their kids to bed! :lmao:

To add the pirate logo, go to the first page and download to your CP signature.

Marie Mary Ellen- would be great to meet you, share anniversary wishes and talk about our daughters! My daughter was front desk Boardwalk two years ago, drove the Safari last summer (hence Simba One), and is now concierge back at Boardwalk!

The meet for drinks after the kiddies go to bed sounds GREAT! party:

Just a couple more questions...:surfweb:

How do you already know your room #?

We have late dinner, 8:30; anyone else?

Can we call and request starboard?

Welcome I am still GTY, my guess is we should see cabin assignments in the next few weeks. Those that booked early have cabin assignments (I originally had one before upgrading to a Cat 6 from a Cat 10). I also have late seating (think this is the better option on the long days).

Simba One, we stayed at the Boardwalk last Christmas season on our land and sea, and absolutely love love love it. We're probably going to stay again this Christmas season, so if your daughter is still there, we'll have to make sure to say Hi to her! (Not doing the land and sea, anything less that 7 days is just too short for me, I get all sad having to leave the ship so soon!)

So general question, are we all actually going to plan a meet or two? Maybe a timeframe on the first sea day or something? I've cruised, but just found the DIS before this cruise so I'm not sure about that part...

Hi Simba One, we must get together. The idea of getting together on a sea day is great, what do you say everyone?

Also love Boardwalk, its our DVC home resort so we go as often as we can and were actually there 2 years ago.

Our daughter worked in the UK pavillion at Epcot in the Historic Research Centre, and now she is an assistant buyer (Toys) for the Disney stores....
