That is what my 16-year old daughter is averaging :scared1: I was checking the account online today and saw 15,743 texts 18 days into the billing cycle.

I am hereby presenting myself for a public flogging as I bad parent:guilty: because I sear I had no idea. She has always been super responsible. There have been times when I have told her to put the phone down or turn it off for a while because she was always texting. Heck, I would never have dreamed such numbers were even possible. We got unlimited texting because her older brothers put up some impressive numbers, but nothing approaching five digits.

She won't be doing it anymore! I did make certain of that. But boy I feel like an idiot and felt the need to make a public confession.

LOL, you aren't a bad parent. Just the parent of a teen. Have you ever read most of their texts? They can text for an hour and say nothing. DD can even tell who is texting her by how fast they do it. Some of these kids can text so fast, they have answered before the next person can finish reading the reply! I'll bet those kids really have high bills!

Wow, that seems BEYOND excessive! Is she doing anything other than texting?????

Don't feel too bad, my niece has that beat by quite a bit. Just like you my SIL was unaware, needless to say she hasn't been texting at all since my SIL got the bill :scared1:

Don't be too hard on yourself. She's a good kid, right?

Has there been any kind of study done yet on repetitve stress syndrome from text messaging? I can't believe how some of these kids can type so fast!

My son probably does close to that. He refuses to talk on the phone though. He hates to talk.

But his responses consist of OMG, WTH, k, ya, no, idk, idc, wat, ?, well?, and various curse words -- and that's just going down through the list of texts I have from him. :rotfl2: I can easily see how he'd rack up a ton in a day.

After paying a bill for 1000 texts over my dd's limit I went ahead and paid the 20 bucks a month for her to have unlimited texting. Then ofcourse she got grounded for her additude and hasn't had the phone since.

:scared1:

She has my dd beat. I looked online the other day and my dd had 2000 since Feb 1st and I thought that was a lot. I never see her talking on her phone, she always text.

The other morning she wouldn't get up for school, so I sent her a text and bam-she was out of bed yelling at me for texting her:thumbsup2

No flogging should occur unless you don't do something about it now that you know.

That is appalling and something I can't imagine. I doubt I have even said 15,743 complete sentences in my 53 years of life! (I do not count fragment of sentences, like "Oh Oh", or "Did I do that?"

That's her too! She had one minute of airtime use this billing cycle!

you're assuming they text in sentances...it's not even always complete words :rotfl2:

Also weird things can be considered texts...if they have windows messenger on there when they come online the notification they send out to everyone counts as a text as does the response from everyone on their list whether they are online or not...so for kids that could be an easy 100 texts just for logging on IM.

I used to spend HOURS on the phone as a teen, at least with texting they aren't taking up the house phone line and are doing other things too. This will be the best multi-tasking generation ever.

Send your DD a text and tell her to knock it off!

My daughter and I have been arguing about this. She thinks nothing of texting me at any hour of the morning or night if she can't sleep. Even when I reply, "I am SLEEPING," she keeps at it. She's so boy crazy and at this point in life believes I know a lot about men (who really does though???), so she's always asking me these "urgent" questions.

Do they prefer curly hair or straight hair?
Do they like girls who wear eyeliner?
Which shirt should I wear with that?
What should I say when he walks past my locker?

And on and on it goes. :lmao:

How does she get anything else done??????? :scared1:

My question exactly. That is absurd and the LAST thing I would be doing is getting unlimited texting so she can continue to do it! How about taking the phone away from her? Trust me, she'll survive without it.

Yeah, she's a good kid. I knew one person she was texting was a friend who was having family problems and was grateful to have someone to "talk" to.

Stress on the phone too! My kids are lucky if one lasts a year.
