Do you remember the smell of your favorite hairspray? As a child of the 1980s and early 1990s, the smell of Rave and Aqua Net bring back horrible images of gigantic, crunchy bangs. You know, the kind that wouldn?t budge for 3 days if you were walking through 80 mph winds in a rainstorm. My mom called my bangs ?The Claw,? and, unfortunately has many photographs to prove how unflattering and ridiculous the hairstyle was. But, oh, on school picture day, how the girls? bathroom smelled like Rave. We?d be lined up in a row, much like a firing squad, only our weapons were a can of aerosol hairspray in one hand and a pick in the other. Teasing our bangs until they stood up on end, we would have competitions to see who could get their bangs off of their forehead the highest. What was your spray of choice and how high was the highest hair in your school!?

I never had that hair. I wore mine straight and long.
However, my first college roommate did use copious amounts of Aqua Net. She usually had two canisters on her dresser. And it was a pervasive smell...but not too unpleasant.

Ah, the big hair days! My kids love to laugh at my pics....long spiral permed hair down to my butt and the top at 6 inches off my head. At only 5 foot 1, I was taller back then..:rotfl2:

I used stiff stuff to obtain that glamorous look!;)

Mine was either Paul mitchel Freeze & Shine or Sebastian Spritz Forte'. Funny thing is they both have been reformulated & are not as strong as they used to be. But I worked at a Drug Store & sold a crap ton of White & purple cans of Aqua Net bought in 2's with a 1.75 of cheap vodka.

Me, too! That stuff was amazing. I didn't have tall hair- mine was more the News Anchorlady hair- a bob that stuck out from the sides of my head (kind of like the "brown football helmet" Sally Field wore in Steel Magnolias).

I was also a big fan of the huge hairbow that you wore on the back of your head. Back in my UGA college days, all us sorority girls were called Bowheads!! :cutie:

I'm sad to say I was an Aqua Net girl. Only stuff that worked on my big hair, lol.

Not only did it coat my hair really well, but my entire room of bedroom furniture!

Rave all the way. it was the only thing that could hold my hair. The new Rave is not even close to the same. I do big hair very well.

Aqua Net in the 80's. Then a salon brand in the 90's. I remember running a pick through my hair before I washed it because the soap and water couldn't reach my scalp if I didn't. Good times!

Big hair was a lifesaver for us short girls wasn't it?

I was a Paul Mitchell freeze and shine girl too. :thumbsup2 My hair was perfect for the late 80s, all my friends were going to get spiral perms, mine was naturally a spiral perm. And big doesn't even begin to cover it. :rotfl:

I can remember having to Windex my bathroom mirrors a lot more often in the 80s, being that they were always caked with stick hair spray. :lmao:

I was an Aussie Mega girl, but my college boyfriend used Salon Selectives and that smell can still take me back...

I used stiff stuff as well with a long spiral perm and big bangs.

Also used Aussie Sprunch Spray (see tag)

Oh how I miss the big hair days.... NOT!!:rotfl2: I was definitely a Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine girl. Now I can't get my hair straight enough and I barely use any hair spray at all.

Aqua net girl here! The cans were lined up on my dresser! I've always felt I was personally responsible for the problems with the ozone layer. :rotfl2:

I think it was Aussie Scrunch (or something like that). I actually miss my 80's
perm.. so easy to take care of. Mine wasn't really "big" or high off my head though. This using the flat iron stuff takes so much more time.

I used an Aussie product on DD a few months ago and immediately felt this odd feeling.. guess I was reliving my youth. :rotfl2:

I never had that hair, I wore mine super short, like boy cut short. No hair spray for me thanks. lol

I can remember peeling the hairspray off my forehead! Now that is gross!!!

:thumbsup2 Aussie Sprunch Spray....just can't beat the smell of that!

As a teenager in the late 80s, I did the big hair thing with poofy bangs :rotfl:

I didn't have airplane bangs (you know...bangs that could snag a passing airplane). Instead I used Wet by Sebastian to get that "Wet" look on my awful perm.
