I am. It's funny.... people were saying the same thing about Pirates before it came out. ;)

Oooh, I can't wait to see King Arthur! Have any of you ever seen Ioan Gruffudd (he plays Lancelot). Major *MEOW* factor! :lovestruc And I love Keira Knightley, too.

Every once and a while the monkey will hit the dart board. Then you have to keep the monkey's hands off the project and you might have a chance at a good movie.

You know I was looking forward to King Aurthur but then I found out that Guinivere(sp?) was like a warrior princess (shades of Xenia) and that was it for me. King Aurthur is a great legend why the heck would anyone mess with it? NO WHERE did I ever read that Guinivere went into battle in Camelot she went to a convent! Maybe I am wrong. I know there are lots of variations on it since it was handed down for the most part by word of mouth but again ....what are they thinking?

Since I am not really a history buff I did not think that women went into battle in that time period. Anyone remember Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp? Just watched it the other night because I forgot it was a "slasher" movie. Jeeze leave well enough alone. If these stories stand the test of time why the heck would anyone want to change them. I feel cheated when I go to a movie (ie Sleepy Hollow) based on a classic and it has been altered. I guess I think to myself who would be so presumptious as to think they can improve upon the original. By the way was Sleepy Hollow a Eisney film (do not call it Disney it tarnshes his name and what he stood for).

Speaking as a history major, as well as a big Arthurian fan, I'm afraid that this is a misconception. The 6th Century AD in Britian was less concerned about gender roles than one might think... There's a lot of history colored by the Victorians. Anyway, my point is that there's precedent for having Guinivere be something other than the milquetoast she is often portrayed as. Boudicca was the most famous of warrior-queens in Britian, although she's a bit earlier, there is a possibility that Guinivere was more of a co-ruler than TH White or the Victorians would have us believe.

Wow! That's amazing that 80 days did worse in it's opening weekend than The Alamo. I didn't think it would set the box office on fire, but I thought it might do a little bit better than it did.

Webster definition of "Movie Flop" (n)
1) Bomb
2) Thud
3) In-the-tank
4) Dud
5) An Eisner film

Is it worth taking into account the other movies?

At the moment we have Harry Potter, Troy and The Day After Tomorrow all making waves pretty much at the same time, all of them considered (rightly or wrongly) A list movies. Even if 80 Days is simply a B list movie (as opposed to a complete dud) it surely would flounder in these conditions come what may?

Engrish?

Because there are lots of big movies out, 80 Days may have worse figures than if there was only one big movie out. In other words, I think that the big movies are stealing the audience that 80 Days might have had more than usual because there are so many of them [the big movies].

Gawd - anyone else find it hard to simplify? I need English lessons...

B list movies dont cost 100 million to make and 30 million to market!!!!!!!(according to boxofficemojo.com).
This is another major thud at the box office!!!

100 million dollar movies are B list now? Besides who told Disney when to release that pile of steaming dog.... That would just be another Disney issue. So lets stay away from blaming the dumb public or other movies on this one.

I have not seen the movie but the previews looked quite funny when we saw them. Problem is, all winter there was hardly a family film to be seen, maybe one every month or two. Now its summer and there are one or two family films a week, and only so much time for watching movies. We have seen Shrek 2 twice, Garfield (what a waste), Harry Potter, and would still like to see Around the World but time and money do not permit with vacations coming up, and there are still some cute looking family films coming my kids want to see. If they had released a couple of these in Jan and Feb when there was nothing to do and we were dying for family movies, we would have went to see them. I think what is a flop when released in summer could have been a moderate success if released in winter due to repeat viewing and lack of selection.

This speaks for itself IMO:
