What nut decides to plan a first time 5 day WDW trip 8 weeks out....my DH, but planning falls on me. First priority, dining. Following various advice, we will be share first day in parks with AK and HS. Day 2 MK Day 3 EP. (Travel days -- want no plans). Need two reservations only, one for characters (doesn't matter who/where) and one for my DD 15th birthday (day 2 in MK -- her request). Help! We're winging all other meals. ANYthing you can tell me, I would so much appreciate. Other kids are DD8 and DS6.

For your first meal I'd recommend Tusker House at AK - they have characters for breakfast and lunch. However, at this point, breakfast may be hard to get and lunch is probably right in the middle of the day when you're looking to park hop.

So my second character recommendation is Garden Grill at Epcot for dinner.

MK is a little trickier - there are only 6 table service restauarants and at this point 3 (CRT, CP and BOG) are likely full. Of the remaining, Tony's is themed around Lady and the Tramp so I'd try this one first - lunch or dinner. Liberty Tree Tavern serves a traditional Amercian Colonial meal - dinner. And finally is the Plaza, this would be my last recomendation.

Good luck!

If your fond of great pizza, i recommend Via Napoli...its one of the only places we do ADR on most trips...we just wing it the rest of the time

If you dont mind leaving MK I would try for Ohana's its close to the MK and very good at this point however you are most likely going to get a late reservation but that might not be so bad.....

Call dinning reservations and speak to them at this point! They can actually help you with what menus there are and what restaurant is actually available! Maybe you can actually get a hot ticket ressie!

We always enjoy the crystal palace in MK. We ate there the last time we went to Disney, we booked late & got in. It was a late reservation but worked out great because we were there for the fireworks. Chef Mickeys (at the contemporary) is an option for character dining. Hop the monorail or even walk from
mK-may be difficult to get a spot this late out though but doesn't hurt to try. Good luck!

Since you're in MK on her birthday, I would suggest having her look at the restaurants on the monorail. She's certainly old enough to look over the menus and reviews and choose one that appeals to her. Take a break from MK to have her special dinner/lunch. If you do dinner, be sure it's at least 2 hours before Wishes, so you can go back to the park and see the fireworks.

A situation like yours makes the online ADR system a big help. I liked it a bit better on the old system, but it'll still work for you. Just put in the day and time (or meal) you are looking and filter by location. You can easily see what's available and where. You can also select Character Dining to see only that option.

I had to help a friend last November with her ADRs when she was only a few weeks out and had nothing. I found that searching by location on a particular day made it much simpler than searching a specific restaurant over and over. We made a few ADRs for her to get something in place and kept checking back every day or so to see if some of her more desired options came available. Many did, but for those that didn't, she enjoyed the ones we had gotten originally.

Good luck with your planning! And have a magical trip!!

i would recommend doing the Crystal Palace Character Breakfast before MK opens, you didn't post the exact dates so i couldn't check to see what time the park opens, but if you get an early ressie then by the time you are done you can head right over to fantasy land and hit all the rides there and prob get them done within the first hour of the park being open! The characters there are pooh and friends which i think sit well with all ages, food is typical breakfast food!

The other i would suggest is at HS, Sci Fi - it's IMHO the best themed restaurant on property, you get to dine like you are at a drive in movie theater under the stars, sitting in actual cars! Very kid/teen friendly, burgers, fries and shakes.. among other food! :thumbsup2

I second Sci Fi --great place for an 8,6 and 15 year old.

Another choice would be Tony's Town Square
and order a special cake to be delivered to your table

For a character meal, Tusker House in AK would be a nice choice. We just had a meal there with 11:15 am ADRs and we got to enjoy both breakfast and lunch fare. The food was wonderful. The service was a little less so, but I feel that we were likely just unlucky in that dept and it would not stop me from eating there again or recommending TH. You take pics with Donald before you are seated, then there was Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy during the meal.

As for MK bday dinner I would try and try for Be Our Guest. You would have to get very very lucky I am sure because it is likely completely booked, but someone could cancel. If not, I have never tried Tony's but that is where I would go with for a bday dinner in MK next to BOG. But they might be booked too. I really enjoy Liberty Tree Tavern and even The Plaza, but I wouldn't consider them top choices for bday dinner.

If you guys are willing to leave MK, Ohana is one of my favs, and just a quick monorail ride to Poly.
