8 kids!!! I think I'm still in shock!

What a heartwarming story! After reading the thread title I thought that you were going to say that you were babysitting some other kids this weekend were responsible for 8 kids for the holiday weekend. :teeth: Yours is a much better story. I know that you'll find the strength and energy to do the job.

I have a question. How will you handle the organizational stuff (or maybe you haven't even gotten this far in your thinking)? Getting dinner made and the dishes cleaned up, lunches made when school starts, laundry, etc.

I ask because my niece has 8 kids (pregnant with her 9th) and she has an elaborate chore chart, with an older child helping a younger child and the kids working into the chore system at 5yo, but she doesn't enforce it well and apparently her house is a disaster. In my niece's defense, I think that she's been pregnant or nursing almost continually and is void of energy to either do the stuff herself or enforce the rules, and has never been an organized person, but I can't imagine the chaos.

I'm just curious what thought you've given to the matter. BTW, I am so in awe of you and think it's totally amazing what you are doing! :thumbsup2

I can't even imagine the fun you are going to have at WDW!

Thank you all for the sweet comments. I definately feel enormously blessed to be given the opportunity to parent these precious kids.

The first 4 were absolutely thrilled about having more brothers and sisters. Especially dd 8. We had 3 boys 1 girl and we got 3 boys 1 girl. The girls are glued to each other already. In the week we were getting ready, dd 8 kept tell everyone "I'm getting a little sister and she's going to be here any day!" The boys just enjoy ahving more boys to play with. They always have someone to do something with now.

As for the organizational stuff, I'm still working on all that. One thing we have done is "color code" the kids. They each have 2 towels, a washcloth, and a cup for the kitchen in their color. That way they know which cup is theirs and drink out of it all day and can keep up with whose towel is whose. Beyond that, I haven't worked on systems yet. As for the school issue, we homeschool so I don't pack lunches and all that. I also have a friend coming over 3 afternoons a week to help with the kids and housework, so that should be a significant help.

I'm still adjusting to the whole concept, but it is tremendously exciting. Dh and I went through several years of infertility before adopting and I look back at all those months when I feared I would never have any children and laugh at the irony of it all. If we hadn't been infertile, we almost certainly would have never ended up with 8! God definately has a sense of humor!

Congrats! You and the kids are all so blessed to have each other! :grouphug:

Good idea on the color coding of the towels and cups! I've always done that, too. You'll figure out something similar with laundry or if some of the children are about the same size you can just let them share socks, etc. Having 4 kids, laundry was always the biggest challenge. I felt like the w/d was always running. And as you all adjust things will run smoother and smoother.

Yes, the irony of it all! :teeth: You seem like you have a great attitude, though and the children and you and you DH are blessed!

How blessed you all are. Congrats!

Your children have very special parents. Bless you!

God bless you! It has always been my dream to adopt children but I have never acted on my dream. You are an inspiration! May you and your beautiful new children have a lifetime of love and happiness.
