Is the Disney Family Deal pin set for 8 pins plus lanyard at $24.99 a good deal if you like the pins? DD7 said she'd keep a few of them but may trade the others.

Would I be better off just purchasing a Lot from ebay and hoping I get some good ones in there?

Pins confuse me. I see Disney selling one pin for $10+ and Ebay selling them for ~30 cents when bought in a Lot.

Shipping is $2.95.

TIA!

A lot of the time, the ones that are sold cheaply on eBay are scrappers or fake. I'm not going to get into the debate as to whether or not you should buy them and such, but you can search pins on this forum and see the debate for yourself.

Personally, I think it's a good deal. You know you're getting authorized and legitimate Disney pins for about $3.00/pin. That's a pretty good deal IMO.

Thanks for the info.

I'm a little bit aware of the scrappers/fake debate as I've read a few threads. Also, friends of mine ordered some on Ebay and got both Disney and non-Disney pins.

Honestly, I'm not a pin purist so could go either way. I don't mind paying a bit more for real Disney pins but not sure what the price point should be to do so.

So far the other Disney Family Deals haven't seemed to be that good...so my first thought is that this isn't that good either. However, I wanted to double check on here since I'm not real familiar with pins ... and I knew Dissers would give me their opinions!:goodvibes

At the Disney Store that same set is sold for $44.95. I am thinking of getting it for my son. This would be his first pin set and I figure he can trade for pins he wants.

yeah, I'm leaning toward buying it, too ... may sleep on it and if it's still available tomorrow then it was meant to be!:rotfl2:;)

In July, the Disney park stores had a "purchase with purchase" pin set for $16.95, I believe it had 8 pins plus a lanyard, so it came in about ~$1/pin cheaper than this, but you had to spend so much money to purchase initially.

For help buying pins on eBay visit the link in my signature, it goes right to the eBay super thread on the Collector's Board. Use EXTREME caution buying from eBay, especially if the pins are .30 cents each.....that's quite the discount.

Can someone tell me where this set is available? The parks or in the store, online :confused3

TIA

Thanks for posting this. I am going to get one for my DD12. She wants to start collecting but I am wary of Ebay pins. I think this is a good price for a pretty nice starter set. I already think I know which ones she'll keep and which she'll trade. I will let her pick a few while we are there if she wants to buy any and add to this. Thanks again! :goodvibes

seach the auction sites for "minnie paris pin set" you can get 7 authentic disney pins for around $15 - $20

Thanks everyone for your responses. It helped me decide to purchase this today. My girls said they will keep them until they find better ones from the CM/parks.

Sounds like a great plan to me.

Just keep in mind, the second you trade with a CM, you may no longer have genuine pins.

Yep, no problem. I'm not a purist...but if my girls really like that CM pin, then they will have gotten the joy out of having these pins for a while ... and when they tire of it, then they have the joy of the new pin which they want. And of course, we can check out the CM pin before trading to fully decide.

Sounds like win-win to me. :thumbsup2

:confused3I don't understand, I thought the CM's only trade authentic pins...how could they give you a fake when you are ginving them a real? I could see if you traded with another guest but a Disney CM?
Please enlighten me

Most CM's don't know an authentic pin from a scrapper, nor do many of them care, they simply take what they are given and then pass it to someone else when asked.

Nor do most people. I understand the therory of not trading fakes but when you get down to it. I just want my 3 young kids to have fun and not kill me financially. I am not looking to start a priceless collection. I am looking for them to enjoy themselves. Fake / real - they all lookthe same to MOST PEOPLE and it is all about fun.

If you are a pin purist I suspect you would not be trading them with CM at disney due to the "risk" of getting fakes.

OP - the set you stated is a nice set - cute.
