Here's a couple pics of my grand baby:

Now a legal question:

1) DD is 16
2) Dad has no means
3) So I'm trying to insure the baby on my policy
4) I've paid a lawyer to petition the court for some kind of legal standing (conservertorship, guardianship, etc.) in order to be able to insure the baby

Is there anyone with a legal background that can see any problems with what I'm trying to do?

Kirk

Have you checked with your HR person to see what constitutes as a dependent. Sometimes grandchildren fall into that category if they are living with you and you are supporting them. I'm guessing your daughter falls into that category so I question why your granddaughter wouldn't. Good luck! Both of those girls are very lucky to have you!;)

I very much agree with msdis. My DS was uninsured for a time, due to a divorce and, I later found out that current dH's insurance would cover him, secondary of course, if there WAS any primary insurance ever but, primary if not so, step-children WERE covered. I have to think that a grandchild would be covered also, if you pay of course, for family coverage, under your circumstances. Once you pass the "test", I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Your grandbaby is just adorable, btw! So precious! :sunny:

Congrats!!!

Hi Kirk, I think all insurance policies are different.

My husbands work policy DID cover our daughter AND her child though and I think many of them do so as long as certain qualifications are met.

Good luck!

That baby is a darling!! :)

You are such a wonderful person:D I agree with the above advice, but check with your HR person at work. What a beautiful baby (and mom!)

what a sweet baby!! when your DD is 16, I would thing the insurance would cover both. I know it use to, but you may just check with HR. Good luck!!

Great pictures, Kirk, thanks for sharing. Hope we see more every so often, I bet we do. :)

As for med coverage, that is really a question for the insurance folks at your work, all plans are different, and specific. I would say some might cover, some not, you really need to check your plan, and, whatever the answer, have it in writing, from the plan. My best.

The baby is adorable! I have no legal background but wanted to wish you luck. Seems if you are counting your daughter as a dependent it would pass over to the baby too. :)

How precious is that baby! How blessed you are to have a beautiful daughter and a precious grandbaby. I'm envious.

No advice about the insurance, though. Hope you get it figured out soon.

First of all , what an adorable baby!
Second, if you have a book of benefits on your insurance , it should tell you exactly what is considered to be a dependent, I would think that if your daughter is your dependent, so is the baby , but only the insurance company can tell you , and if you need any kind of legal paper, they should tell you what you need.

How precious - both of them!

No advice for the insurance questions - just lots of luck.

No adivce here either... just wanted to say how adorable Catryna is :)

When my father-in-law lived with us (he was retired and had no means of income other than social security), I could have added him on to my insurance at work as a sponsored dependent. I wish I had more info for you.

Your daughter and grandbaby are beautiful. :) And you are a very special dad.

Kirk, I know your wife is smiling at this beautiful family up in heaven, and so blessed to have such a wonderful Dad and Granddad to provide for her loved ones.

You are indeed a special kind of guy.

Congrats, follow all the awesome info on this thread and I know that you all will be alright.

God bless,

Robinrs

Best of luck on the Insurance thing, and he looks CUTE!:p ;)

baby katryna is beautiful!
as stated about, grandbaby's can usually be covered if they are your dependant. good luck!

Beautiful baby!

Most insurers will cover the child of a dependant minor as long as they have no other coverage i.e. if your daughter has a job and is ensured through work your insurance will not cover her or the baby. And coverage is usually only until 19 unless a full-time student, then it goes to 23 as longs as the student is full time every semester.
