Ok Disney experts, I've noticed that the Poly seems to be the overwhelming favorite on this board. My question is, how special is it to you?

I've seen many people state that the longer stay means more than the better resort, but what if only a one day difference is involved. What if the other resort is the WL, another favorite on this board.

If you had to choose, which would you take and why? Keep in mind that the price difference is of no concern, although adding an 8th day to the Poly is a little more than I can swing. Please explain why you made the choice you did.

Thanks

P.S. I have the WL booked for 8 days and am somewhat considering the Poly for 7 due to the monorail, better views, and room sizes, something my 14, 9, and 1 year olds will love. But it's tough when you're having to sacrifice a day.

We stayed at both...I prefer the WL because it has a calmer atmosphere than the Poly.

The Poly was so loud and crazy the entire time we were there...the pools were insane, the lobby area was swamped with people. It was a nice resort and for a weekend we would go back but for a week I would prefer a quieter place.

Just got back from WL and it was quiet and peaceful. Never waited long for a boat or a bus. My DH loved riding the boats. We must have ridden every type of boat they have while we were there and it was so much fun. We got to see the electrical water parade from our boat one night. I haven't stayed at the Poly since I was 3 but I did eat dinner at O'Hana last Wed night and that place is a madhouse. Their lobby was so crowded you could barely move. We never had that problem once at WL.

Well I have only stayed at the Poly, but we loved it! I didn't frequent the GCH so the crowds there did not bother me.
i found the rest of the resort to be peaceful and relaxing. The volcano pool did get busy during the afternoon, but again, not crazy, at least not when we were there and there is always the quiet pool.
I would vote for the Poly and do some OT at work to earn the $$ for the extra day.......LOL

My overall reco. would be to plan out two itineraries, a 7 day and an 8 day. If you feel like you can include everything you want in 7 days and really want the Poly, then, go for it. Personally, my vote would go toward WL because I can't get over paying deluxe prices and not having a hot tub. But, I really think, by building the itinerary, you'll truly be able to see if you give anything up by going to 7 days. HTH.

I have never stayed at either resort. However, We ate and visited many resorts our last visit. Some of the resorts we visited :
Poly
GF
Contemporary
BW
AKL
CB
By far Poly was the best atmosphere. It was calm and relaxing not stuffy feeling at all. We watched the fireworks from the beach. I loved this resort. I have always been a big believer in longer stay. That is until I saw this resort. I really hope we can stay there our next visit to Disney.

I love both, but the Poly wins because of the monorail & walking distance to TTC.

No thought for me here. I would do the Poly. Although an extra day in Disney would have been my first thought prior to going and staying at the Poly, I enjoyed the Poly so much with the stunning and relaxing grounds. My 3 children loved the pool. Nothing can compare to watching Wishes from your resort. There is nowhere I would want to stay now even if it meant waiting, saving, or cutting a day from my trip. The resort is 1/2 of the vacation for me. Let us know what you decide. :)

If you had to choose, which would you take and why? Keep in mind that the price is basically the same. Please explain why you made the choice you did.

Thanks

Hi, I'm just trying to figure out how the price is basically the same unless you're comparing say a Courtyard View at WL to a Gardenroom at the Poly. If you're looking at a standard room WL versus Garden at Poly then there is a significant price difference.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out. At the time I typed this I was doing two things at once :headache: . I meant to say "keep in mind that price is of no concern". Sorry about that, I edited my original post to reflect this.

Excellent advice:thumbsup2 , and the hot tub exclusion is definitely a negative. Do you know if you can see Bay Lake and the Electric Water Pageant from the WL Hot Tub? That alone may make-up my mind! :rotfl:

Since there is only one day difference, I voted for the Poly. The rooms are so much bigger, the pool is bigger, I prefer the on-site restaurants at the Poly to those at the WL, you also have access to the other monorail resorts restaurants, the transportation is the best I've ever experienced staying on-site. Besides the Poly not having a hot tub(it does however have a portion of the pool that is heated like a hot tub), I can't find anything else to say that is negative about it.

My family and I have had this discussion many times since returning from their 1st ever trip to WDW. As a whole, we would rather stay only 3 or 4 nights at the Poly than longer anywhere else. We intended to stay at the WL originally. After eating/touring at WL and staying 10 days at the Poly, we feel that we made the best choice for us. As gorgeous as the WL is, I felt the pool there was just as noisy as the Volcano Pool at the Poly. The Poly's quiet pool was never noisy. Well, except for that one night when all those crazy girls were there and the parents were noisy and laughing away...oh, wait, that was us...:lmao:

The sprawling nature and extensive grounds of the Poly are what made it so peaceful. I never found the GCH to be way too noisy and we were there for Thanksgiving. Also, we stayed in Tahiti which, while way out of the way for walking, was way out of the way for quiet too :thumbsup2 . Last of all-- monorail. That says "Disney" to me.:wizard:

Can't imagine being disappointed with either choice-- just my reasons why we'll never stay anywhere else at WDW.

P.S. Just reminded by PP-- the rooms at the Poly are huge! Wonderfully spacious-- Tahiti was one of the 476 sq ft rooms.

Thanks to everyone for all of your opinions and input. My family and I have made it final and we will be staying at the WL for 7 Nights. We are making our final payment on it today :thumbsup2 .

The deciding factors were:

1) Taking the money we'd save staying at the WL, and using it on Cirque Du Solei and MORE souvenirs.

2) My wife just doesn't really care for the Tropical theme during the winter months, even though it's more than likely to be warm. She'd rather save the Poly for our next trip which will probably be in early March or early May of 2009.

3) Of course the extra day is great

4) We don't really mind the middle man of having to take the boat to the CR to catch the monorail. I mean after all, this is more of relaxing trip rather than a commando style trip. Which leads to my final deciding factor:

5) The theme of the WL is better suited for the theme of our trip.......RELAXATION. The hot tub definitely adds to this.

There you have it folks, all of my months of indecisiveness is over. I'm very excited about this trip, and to all of you who love the Poly, don't worry, we will be spending MUCH time over there; we are eating at Kona twice and Ohanas once. Well, 45 days until I'm off! :cool1:
