8 am MK Opening on arrival day. (Yikes)

I am a "rope dropper" (LOL) and our arrival day we have planned for MK. It looks like the park is set to open at 8 am on that morning. What time should we get to MK to be near the front of the rope drop lines. I know that for a 9 am, 1 hour early is recommended. Is that still the recommendation for 8 am? Dreading this one a little as the 1st morning arrival process will mean that we have to get up at a crazy early time.

I'm curious as to what others say, but I have been at MK for a couple 8am openings since the current procedure has been in place. Pretty much it looks like 7am or bust. We have showed up at 7 both times and wound up within a few feet of the rope where you queue up to go to SDMT. By 7:20 there was a well-defined crowd of several hundred behind us.

Sigh.. So at bus stop by 6:30. That means that we'll be up at 5 in order to get to the hotel. I guess it beats the alternative where we don't beat the crowds.

If you're trying to go to 7DMT, you definitely need to be towards the front of the RD pack that heads in that direction. If you're planning on any other ride though, you may not need to be quite that far ahead. 7am would still be a good time to get there, but it's not as crucial depending on what you want to do. The crowds disperse pretty well once the whole park opens up.

If this isn't your only MK day, I'd save 7DMT for another day or at least try to get a FP for it and not try to rope drop it. If you can plan to head toward Adventureland or Frontierland, you could get to MK closer to the 8:00 opening and be fine. I would still want to be at the bus stop by 7:15, but that's better than 6:30.
