here is my question,

we are going to be staing at the YC for 6 nights this Aug and I have made 8 ADR's.

1 breakfast at cape may
4 lunches at via napoli, teppan edo, Cinderella lunch, and Yak and yedi.

Lastly dinner, Yachsman, rose and crown and captains grill.

My question is is this overkill on ressis? I have never in my life made so many but i keep reading that if you dont you may be shut out. So should I cancel some or is this about right?

Also I am starting to wonder with all these if DP might make sense.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks

Were we going for the same amount of time, we might have anywhere from 10-15 reservations. I don't think eight is too many at all.

You are right that in August you may find it tough to get a walk-up seating at a lot of restaurants, especially those that are in parks.

As far as the dining plan is concerned, that really all depends on your party size and dining habits. For us, a young, childless couple, we usually split an appetizer and/or dessert, and we like to liberally partake of the alcoholic beverages, which aren't covered on the plan. In any case, there isn't really a plan that exists that covers what we like adequately. It's usually simultaneously too much and not enough: too much food and not enough credits or variety.

For a larger family, though, especially one with a strict touring plan, the dining plan can be very useful. Someone in such a situation can give you a much better explanation of why it works for them.

The amount looks good :thumbsup2

As far as dining plan goes, if you get the DDP it would be 1 TS 1 CS and 1 snack and all of your ADRs are TS so you would end up paying OOP for 3 or 4 since Yachtman's and CRT are signature. And if you go DxDP then it would not be worth it unless you book some more ADRs :confused3

For those who book 8-15 ADRs for a 6 night trip...are you making several ADRs a day but only planning on using 1. If so...that's  not right. For OP, if you are going to use all those ADRs, you definitely should get the deluxe DDP to get 3 credits per day and book a few more ADRs. We had the deluxe once and it was too much eating for us, but we added it last minute and had to find places with availability and couldn't get what we wanted (a few signature places we wanted were all booked up). If you do 1 TS and 1 signature TS each day, it's not so bad. But trying to do 3 TS meals a day was difficult for us.

I don't think it is too many, but think about how you like to eat while you travel. We learned very quickly that we really like to go-go-go, sit down for a nice meal, then go-go-go some more. Other people like to just swing in somewhere and grab a quick meal.

For reference, we have 10 ADRs for our 6 night trip in September. We are also planning to order room service one night, and we have one night that we left open for a "last minute" reservation - we'll pick something that has openings while we are traveling to try something new. We discovered The Wave this way last time and really enjoyed it.

i agree with the PP i have 12 ADRS for a 6 night trip.

The reservation system doesn not let you book multiple ADR's for the same time anymore THANK GOODNESS.

There are so many ways around that, it really isn't a big thing. I'm not advocating people double-booking at all, infact I think its very wrong for people to do it. Just saying that if you have half a brain, you can get around the system very easily, hence its not really stopping the people who want to do this, from actually doing it.

I would consider getting the basic DDP (1TS, 1CS, 1 Snack). As of now you have what would amount to 10 TS credits. If you went up to the DxDP, you would still have 8 more credits to book (not to mention 12 snack credits per person). If you are questioning now whether or not you have too many, I would think that 6-8 more ADR's might really make your head spin. I would consider paying for CRT and Yachtsman OOP since I don't think either of them would be worth using 2 TS credits on. :thumbsup2

Not too many at all. For our September 2011 8 night stay, we have 19 reservations! 8 dinners, 7 lunches, 4 character breakfasts. That's about the same as we did the last 2 trips.

We have lunch and dinner on our arrival day.... breakfast and a late lunch on our departure day. In between, we usually have 2 meals a day on most days in some form of the following... seems to work. We like the fun dining for breakfast and lunch... and signature restaurants or shows for dinner. It's nice to get a break from all the walking too. I wish Disney World had dining with more outrageous themes...

  • Character breakfast and an early dinner (for the fantasmic package, or to have dinner early enough to be done in time for the Halloween party at MK)
  • No breakfast (or coffee/pastry on the go), lunch around 11 or 11:30am, then dinner around 6pm.
  • A Character breakfast early at 8am, lunch at 1pm, later dinner around 7 or 7:30pm.

I have 16 reservations for a 7 night trip and I still have two more to make.

I plan on using every one :-)

Curious, do you get the dining plan...basic or deluxe? The ideal trip for us would be 2 signatures for dinner plus other TS dinners plus some TS lunches. For a 7 night trip, we'd use 14 TS credits per person, but they don't have a plan for that...they have the basic- 1 TS, 1 CS per day or the deluxe- 3 of anything per day...I'd love a plan that's 2 TS per day and 1 snack and the soda mug....that would be perfect. So, I'm curious what you do. Do you just pay OOP?

A dissenting opinion here. You've got so many ADR's that you're seriously cutting into the spontaneity factor of enjoying the parks. Leave your self more meals that you can just do as you please depending on where you happen to be when you get hungry.

I agree with this one! On each of our trips, I had ADRs all planned out and ended up changing at least 2 of them while there.

I like having everything planned out especially for the very hard to get reservations. But I realized I have to be willing to toss those plans for something else if we all just want to do something different. Last year, we realized we wanted more time at Hollywood Studios. Sometimes, we might just be too tired or not hungry, or found something better to do.

While at WDW, I've changed times, canceled hard to get ADRs like Chef Mickey's, and changed restaurants when our park plans changed. There's always a place to eat... somewhere. And some of our best restaurant meals were in the places that are easy to get last minute reservations. And I've even seen hard to get reservations become available the same morning.

In 2008, we went with a lot of family. One thing that was nice... is we all committed to having dinner together every night. During the day, everyone did their own thing. We all crossed paths many times during the day.

:rotfl: We did, too! I believe I maxed out at 17! We always do Dxdp...works well for us...we like to eat. Just got back from our vacation last Sunday...all of us put on a little extra weight! Go figure;)

I would rather have too many and have to cancel one as oppsed to running around trying to find a place and wait.

Seriously, it doesn't matter what other's think about this - if you want 8 ADR's then make 8 and be happy about it. Everyone does Disney differently - some folks will have an ADR for every meal, other's will not make any. It really is, to each their own.

You aren't the only one out there that makes a good # of ADR's - for example, my trip in October (6 nights) I have 11 ADR's. For my trip in November (8 nights) I have 14 ADR's.
